Chapter 129: Who are you?
Chapter 129: Who are you?
"Captain?"
Yaima Loera felt the armored man intended to snatch someone else’s prey halfway through, which is a common behavior yet inappropriate in higher-level disaster areas.
He looked at the captain, and hoping he would halt the armored man’s unsuitable behavior.
Heriberto Cabrera glanced at everyone’s varied expressions and calmly suggested, "Let’s vote. Those in favor of not pursuing, raise your hand."
Yaima Loera immediately raised his hand, anf expecting at least two or three others to share the same thoughts as him.
But to his surprise, with puzzled expression he found he was the only one who raised his hands.
"Since the majority of the people agree to pursue, then let’s settles it," Heriberto Cabrera made the decision.
Patting Yaima Loera’s shoulder and he said, "Yaima, try to understand everyone’s perspective."
"But Captain, I feel this mission is very risky. I’m not joking," Yaima Loera knew what Heriberto Cabrera wanted to say.
"High-level disaster areas are inherently dangerous. But danger often comes with opportunity. You should have realized this when you entered here," Heriberto Cabrera began to shown a little impatience in his eyes, and thinking that Yaima Loera who persisted in this matter was somewhat ridiculous.
"I do understand, it’s just..." Yaima Loera’s words were cut short by Heriberto Cabrera.
Heriberto Cabrera couldn’t hold back anymore, "If you’re scared, you can stay put. We’ll go."
"Captain, we won’t do someone else’s dirty work," the armored man sneered at Yaima Loera, and implying that if they killed the monster, Yaima Loera wouldn’t get a share.
Yaima Loera wasn’t oblivious; he wasn’t that naive.
Frustrated, he shouted, "I don’t care for it!"
"This is what you said yourself, and everyone can witness it," the armored man said triumphantly.
Yaima Loera’s face darkened, "Of course, I’ll stick to my word."
The armored man smirked, and then turned his head to Heriberto Cabrera, and said: "Captain, can we go now? We’ve delayed enough. If that monster runs away, we’ll suffer significant losses."
"Then let’s go," Heriberto Cabrera took a few steps and he though that Yaima Loera who was standing still was their team member, and if he leaving him behind he wouldn’t get any good result.
If word got out, it might affect his reputation, anf potentially making it difficult for others to join his team in the future, "Yaima Loera, let’s come along together. Don’t lag behind. The situation here is very complex and perilous. When we find that monster, you don’t need to fight it. Just stand aside and watch."
Yaima Loera didn’t know the captain’s true intentions behind these words.
He just felt a littlr bit touched by the captain words, and for a while he though the captain intended to abandon him alone.
Although he wasn’t pleased with his team seizing someone else’s prey, he knew he couldn’t survive alone in this area.
So, he silently followed them.
The group of eight, who fearing the wounded monster might be hiding to recuperate, began to quickened their pace.
In the dense jungle, fleeting shadows passed by.
"I saw it!" one team member suddenly exclaimed, with excitement evident in their voice.
"I saw it too! The monster is right there!" another member yelled afterward.
The armored man pushed aside the tall grass before him, revealing the monstrous body lying motionless ahead.
His eyes gleamed with fanaticism and bubbling excitement, "Indeed, that’s the monster. Its injuries must be severe; it can’t even move."
"Indeed, I thought it would take us over half an hour to find it. Surprisingly, we found it so quickly," Heriberto Cabrera expressed some surprise but didn’t dwell on it.
"Be cautious, don’t get too close. First, assess the situation before taking action."
The armored man seemed impatient to move forward but was pulled back.
"What are you doing?" another team member looked at him warily.
"What can I do? Just going up to assess the situation. Unless you want to?" the armored man, knowing what concerned him, smirked sarcastically.
Team member A chuckled involuntarily, his hands inadvertently loosening.
He awkwardly said, "I’m just worried about your safety. You’re the strongest attacker in our team. If something happens, it would bring bign impact in our team’s strength."
The armored man sneered sarcastically and spoke frankly, "Thank you for your concern. Even if I wanted to do something, with so many people around, I wouldn’t have the chance, not to mention the captain being here."
"What are you saying? I didn’t mean that. You wanted to check the situation, right? Go ahead," team member A didn’t want to continue this conversation with him and voluntarily backed down.
"Have you guys noticed? This monster hasn’t moved at all. Could it... be dead?" team member B suddenly suggested, feeling his speculation was a bit far-fetched.
"That’s impossible," team member A exclaimed incredulously.
"This monster survived in an A-grade disaster areas. Its strength wouldn’t be weak. It can’t die so easily."
The armored man stared at the monster with intense excitement, "It’s not entirely impossible. Perhaps its injuries were too severe, and it died halfway. I’ll go and check."
He moved so quickly that before Heriberto Cabrera could say anything, he was already moving forward.
Worried that the armored man might get into trouble alone, Heriberto Cabrera had no choice but to follow him.
As he moved, the others member didn’t want to stay behind either.
If the monster was truly dead, it would be a huge advantage.
So, except for Yaima Loera, everyone else moved forward.
"Sanchia Calderon, it’s dangerous here, and this is a wetland. Let’s stick together," Heriberto Cabrera approached the armored man.
The armored man glanced at him, his eyes holding a faint hint of mockery.
In the jungle, several meters away, Yaima Loera watched the scene with disappointment.
Despite spending a month navigating through this jungle as a team, their mutual trust had weakened.
Now, even a slight misunderstanding could explode like a bomb, and causing mutual harm.
"Oh my, this monster really is dead!" a team member couldn’t wait and placed his hand on the monster, and realizing there was no sign of life.
A surge of immense surprise filled him.
"Really, as Sanchia Calderon said, its injuries were too severe, and it died while fleeing?" the second team member approached as well.
The monster’s bulk blocked their view, forcing them to circle around to the front to examine the exact cause of death.
Heriberto Cabrera and the armored man circled around and suddenly heard the sound of dripping water.
They quickly exchanged glances, positioning themselves to cover each other, one in the front and one behind.
The armored man prepared to attack, and swiftly moving forward, but his steps abruptly halted.
Seeing he was unharmed, Heriberto Cabrera stepped forward, and spotting a man in black clothes and pants standing in front of the fallen monster.
The man seemed untouched by any bloodstains, he looked composed and calm.
His gaze subtly scanned the surroundings, trying to ascertain if there were only these men present or if there were others lying in ambush nearby.
In disaster areas, ambushes and attacks were not uncommon.
"Friend, are you the only one here?" The armored man and Heriberto Cabrera had the same thought, but the armored man had already noticed no one else was nearby, meaning is besides them, only this man was present.
Kenny Lin adjusted his cap, and his emotionless eyes began to assessing the uninvited group.
Without answering the armored man’s question, she checked the time.
There were still twenty-nine minutes until her appointment.
She needed to hurry back; Amalia contacting her so urgently must mean there was a problem with the dispersibg bone fragrance in her body.
Seeing no response from Kenny Lin, the armored man didn’t mind it.
He smirked, and revealing a malevolent expression through his vivid crimson lips.
