Chapter 1255: Interrogation of Mo Qingjie
But this time, he was willing to take a gamble.
Since their time in the Pleiades Star System was unlikely to be short, and they did need a local subordinate, Amalia had no objections.
Soham had managed to get this far—that in itself proved his worth.
Lal Hiran was dead, but he had plenty of subordinates.
Some were fiercely loyal, while others, like Soham, had been eyeing the leader’s seat for themselves.
Once word of Lal Hiran’s death spread, his men rushed over.
Seeing Soham already seated in the leader’s position, showing no respect for Lal Hiran’s still-warm corpse, their ambitions flared.
Without hesitation, they banded together to challenge him.
However, with Amalia and Kenny Lin present, their rebellion was swiftly crushed.
Those who could be subdued were taken in; those who couldn’t—were eliminated.
Within half a day, Soham had fully solidified his position.
No one dared oppose him anymore.
Before leaving, Amalia tossed him a basic cultivation technique and a mental cultivation method, along with twenty thousand spirit stones.
"Train well. Break past your limits as soon as possible."
Then she and Kenny Lin departed.
Soham sent them off respectfully, and once they were gone, he could barely contain his excitement.
He immediately wanted to begin training but suddenly remembered something.
He quickly called one of his subordinates over.
"Go deal with Lagan’s shop. Make sure not too many people find out about what happened there."
"Rest assured, Chairman, I’ll handle it properly."
The subordinate, eager to prove himself to the new leader, responded swiftly.
Luckily, the incident had happened at night.
The underground city was far less crowded at that time.
Lagan himself knew that his dealings were shady, so he always lured people into a secluded warehouse where it would be easier to handle things.
By the time Amalia and Kenny Lin returned to the embassy, the sky was just beginning to lighten.
No one knew they had been gone the entire night.
Even the spies keeping watch outside had no clue.
Inside the room, Amalia dumped the young man onto the floor.
Moments later, searing pain jolted him awake.
"Who exactly are you?" The young man opened his eyes and, recalling what had happened before he lost consciousness, stared warily at the two people before him.
Amalia tore his upper garment apart, revealing the tattoo on the back of his neck. "This is the emblem of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth. Does every member have one?"
The young man remained silent, his gaze dark and unreadable as he stared at her.
Kenny Lin flicked a strand of sword energy into his body.
Immediately, the young man collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony.
No matter how much he screamed, no one outside would hear him.
The two of them watched him suffer for half an hour before Kenny Lin finally withdrew the sword energy.
The young man lay limp on the ground, gasping for breath, drenched in sweat as if he had just been pulled from water.
"I know you’re not afraid of physical pain," Amalia said coldly. "But by now, you should have realized that our methods don’t just target the flesh. If you keep refusing to speak, I can burn your soul instead. I doubt you’ve ever experienced that before. And that’s just one way I can make you submit."
She paused while watching his reaction before she continue. "Another method is soul-searching. Ever heard of it? It forcibly extracts your memories, but the process can damage your soul. If we’re not careful, you might suffer brain damage and become an idiot for the rest of your life."
Of course, if the subject resisted too much, it could result in memory loss—or even backlash against the caster.
However, their divine senses were strong, so they weren’t too concerned about that.
The risk of jumbled or lost memories, though, was real.
It could make the whole process a waste of effort.
At the mention of becoming an idiot, the young man’s expression twisted in struggle.
The members of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth were proud and untamed, and the thought of being reduced to a mindless idiot was more unbearable than death.
"I’ll ask one last time. What is your name? What is your rank in the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth? Does every member bear this emblem?" Amalia gave him a final chance.
The young man clenched his jaw tightly before finally loosening his grip.
"My name is Mo Qingjie. I am a Yellow-rank member of the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth. Every member has the emblem—it’s our insignia. Some people have it in obvious places, others in hidden spots. But if you belong to the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth, you must have one."
Amalia narrowed her eyes. "Yellow rank—is that ranked from Yellow, Black. Earth to Heaven? The higher the rank, the greater the authority?"
Mo Qingjie nodded. "Yes."
"So after all that, you’re just a low-ranking grunt?" Kenny Lin’s expression showed his disappointment. "Why, then, did Lal Hiran treat you with such respect?"
Sensing his displeasure, Mo Qingjie’s face twisted with humiliation. "Even if I’m just a Yellow-rank member, I’m ranked in the top three of my level. Lal Hiran had to show me respect because he wanted something from me..."
His voice suddenly cut off.
"Something from you? Why did you stop talking?" Kenny Lin hummed lightly, a faint threat in his tone.
A bead of cold sweat rolled down Mo Qingjie’s forehead as the pressure around him grew heavier. "The Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth has resources that cultivators need. Lal Hiran’s cultivation wasn’t particularly high. To improve his strength and eventually devour other forces, he often traded with me to buy the resources he needed for his cultivation."
"And what did your organization get from him in return?"
Mo Qingjie immediately lifted his head, staring at Amalia in shock.
