Chapter 1253: The Grand Performance

But what surprised him even more was that the demon who had taken him hostage now wanted him to act in a little performance.

Soham was completely dumbfounded at the time.

What kind of bizarre hobby is this?

But after seeing the stark contrast between the young man’s fake tragic act and his real twisted personality, he figured that it wasn’t all that strange for a demon like this to have such an interest.

With no other choice, Soham played along.

When he heard the chairman praising him, he forced a stiff, insincere smile.

To be honest, when Amalia saw the young man’s drastic change in demeanor, she was immediately reminded of the drama king.

In a way, they were the same kind of people—both loved to put on a show and perform for others.

The difference was that the drama king did it purely for fun, whereas the young man was simply unhinged.

"If you don’t want your companion to die, surrender now," Lal Hiran said coldly, fixing his gaze on Amalia.

"Sure. Go ahead and kill him," Amalia replied, crossing her arms.

The drama king’s eyes widened in disbelief, as if he couldn’t believe she had just said that.

The young man’s expression shifted into one of delighted amusement. "Wow, I wasn’t expecting this twist! Comrades turning against each other—so you’re not as righteous as I thought. You don’t even care if your own companion lives or dies. How interesting."

"I never claimed to be some kind of righteous savior," Amalia said with a chuckle.

"Hah! You sure are quick to burn bridges. I have to admit, your style isn’t all that different from our Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth’s way of doing things. If you hadn’t insulted me earlier, I might’ve even recommended you join us," the young man said, clicking his tongue.

The air suddenly became eerily still.

Amalia glanced at him, her brows slowly furrowing. "If you’d mentioned that earlier, I wouldn’t have said what I did."

The young man was briefly caught off guard. "What do you mean?"

Amalia looked at him regretfully.

If she had known this was a direct opportunity to join the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth, she wouldn’t have wasted time searching for their people.

This could’ve given her direct access to high-ranking members.

"Amalia! How could you say that?" The drama king’s voice cracked with emotion. "I came here because of you! And now that I’ve been captured, you don’t even care about my life? I really misjudged you!" His veins bulged from his neck and forehead as he shouted, putting in every ounce of effort.

His performance was so over-the-top that if he were in the entertainment industry, he’d probably become a legend overnight.

"I never asked you to come in the first place. You insisted on tagging along. And now that you’re a hostage, you expect me to save you? Sorry, I’m not that noble. Rescuing you would only put me at a disadvantage, letting them use you against me," Amalia played along with a smirk.

The drama king’s face turned red with anger, his breathing ragged. "Y-you... How could you say that?! You’re not the Amalia I thought I knew!"

"How amusing! So amusing!" The young man clapped his hands in excitement. "You two are so entertaining. I love a good dog-eat-dog story."

Amalia turned to him. "Well, since we put on such a good show for you, why don’t you tell me—what’s your rank in the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth?"

The young man sneered. "And why should I tell you? What does my position in the organization have to do with anything?"

"It has everything to do with it," Amalia said, flexing her fingers. "If you’re a high-ranking member, I might let you live a little longer. If you’re not... well, that’s unfortunate for you."

The young man’s face darkened instantly, as if a shadow had been cast over it.

His expression twisted in anger. "You must have a death wish. Enough games. Lal Hiran, kill her. The thing you want—I can hand it over right now."

Lal Hiran had only been negotiating with the young man for that very item.

Now that it was within reach, how could he refuse?

Besides, these two had trespassed onto his territory—they were going to die anyway.

Killing Amalia and gaining a favor in the process?

It was a good deal.

Still, he had no intention of doing it himself. Instead, he turned to the drama king. "Your companion has abandoned you. But if you kill her, I’ll let you live. What do you say?"

The drama king glared at Amalia with gritted teeth. Then, he spat out a single word: "Fine!"

"Let him go," Lal Hiran ordered.

Soham’s hands trembled as he reached for the particle gun.

As one of the only three people here who still had their wits about them, he had just witnessed a masterful reversal.

After today, he doubted he would ever see anything like this again.

The moment the drama king was freed, an overwhelming killing intent erupted from him.

It was so strong—so terrifying—that Lal Hiran and the young man immediately realized something was very, very wrong.

How could someone with such an intense bloodlust ever have been subdued by Soham?

Lal Hiran turned to Soham, only to see the latter wearing an expression on the verge of tears. "Chairman, I’m sorry. If I didn’t go along with it, he would’ve killed me."

Lal Hiran’s eyes widened in horror.

Without a second thought, he spun on his heels and bolted.

The young man was even faster.

The instant he realized he might not be a match for this opponent, he didn’t even consider fighting.

He ran.

But Amalia moved like a ghost, blocking his path in an instant. "Going somewhere?"

The young man let out a furious roar, unleashing all his spiritual energy and charging forward like a meteor.

But in the next second, as if an invisible force had compressed it all back inside him, not a single ripple of power remained.
