Chapter 1222: The Servant’s Secret

Chapter 1222: The Servant’s Secret

The alien technology inside had been perfectly preserved.

They simply could not believe it—how had the weak Draconis Empire managed to take this battleship from the hands of the aliens?

At this point, they could no longer deceive themselves.

This so-called weak nation possessed a power beyond their comprehension.

"How was the harvest this time?" Amalia had come to the plaza with the king to welcome everyone back as Kenny Lin leaped down from the top of the battleship.

Seeing his vibrant energy and how his aura had become even more refined compared to when he left, Amalia guessed that he must have fed well during his expedition.

"Not bad, though it doesn’t compare to how you get a steady stream of faith energy every day," Kenny Lin admitted with a hint of satisfaction.

"Feeling salty about it?" Amalia chuckled.

"Oh, absolutely. Bitter to the core," Kenny Lin shamelessly confessed.

He was indeed jealous.

"Enough sulking. Come with me to see Rafael. He’s made progress on that investigation I had him look into."

Kenny Lin casually walked beside her, hands in his pockets. "What did he find?"

"I suspect that the informant who tipped off the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth might have some connection to the Vanquez family. I had Rafael dig into it. Originally, I planned to go straight to him, but since I saw you all returning, I figured I’d pick you up first," Amalia explained.

"Well, at least you have some conscience—you didn’t leave me behind."

"That’s my line. You were the one who ran off half a month ago," she retorted.

"I was afraid people would say I’m not worthy of you, so I had to hurry up and train."

Amalia gave him a skeptical look. "More like you were afraid you wouldn’t be able to keep up with me in bed."

Kenny Lin’s gaze flickered away, suspiciously evasive. "Nonsense."

Amalia snorted.

She had hit the nail right on the head.

They bantered as they arrived at Rafael’s residence nearby.

The guards at the entrance knew that Amalia was the boss’s most esteemed guest and dared not block her path.

Instead, one of them sprinted inside to alert Rafael.

Rafael abandoned his cultivation without hesitation and rushed out immediately.

"Ms. Amalia and Mr. Kenny, why did you come here in person? Just send word, and I would’ve gone to see you in person," Rafael said deferentially.

"It’s been a while, and you’re even more obsequious now. Not bad, keep it up," Kenny Lin remarked with a sly smile.

Rafael’s face stiffened.

This harbinger of trouble was back.

"Quit teasing him. Let’s talk inside," Amalia cut in to ease the tension.

Rafael was immensely grateful and swiftly led them in.

"Today is the final day. Do you have the information?" Amalia asked, too impatient to sit.

Rafael didn’t waste time. "Yes. About 35 years ago, the Vanquez family dismissed a servant. I had my people investigate further. That servant had worked for the Vanquez family for ten years, and he was decent before his dismissal. But for some reason, he suddenly changed—became dishonest, started stealing. Turns out, just before he was fired, he seemed to have had some sort of encounter that dramatically increased his strength. Perhaps he got stronger and grew arrogant."

"The Vanquez family noticed his growing insolence and that their household was frequently being rummaged through. When they confronted him, he lost his temper and injured several members of the Vanquez family. According to neighbors, the commotion was quite loud. They even overheard him shouting about ’handing something over’—otherwise, he’d make sure the Vanquez family knew no peace."

"And then?" Amalia pressed.

All of this had happened before she was even born, so it made sense she had no memory of it.

The Vanquez family had also never mentioned this person.

"The Vanquez family usually keeps a low profile, but it’s said they have connections in all three realms—lawful, unlawful, and the gray area. They also reportedly know some cultivators. So, they had his cultivation abolished him and threw him off Veloxia. He was never seen again."

Rafael glanced at Amalia’s expression. "Since he was no longer on Veloxia at the time, it’s difficult to determine whether he ended up in the Pleiades Star System."

"Did you find out how he obtained his opportunity?" Amalia pondered for a moment before asking.

"According to his own words, he was struck by lightning. There was a cultivator undergoing tribulation nearby, and he accidentally wandered into the area. He miraculously survived, so the cultivator gave him a cultivation technique."

Since the cultivator hadn’t taken him as a disciple, there was no dramatic tale of a master seeking revenge for a wronged student.

"Do you have a picture of him?"

"Right here."

Naturally, there were no photographs, but Rafael was resourceful.

He had an elder who had seen the man sketch a portrait and roughly capturing his features.

Amalia memorized the face carefully.

"Ms. Amalia, apart from this person being somewhat special, nothing else stood out."

"Understood. You’ve done well." Amalia tossed him a handful of artifacts. "This is your reward."

Rafael feigned modesty, but his hand closed around the artifacts without a moment’s hesitation.

Upon leaving Rafael’s residence, Amalia remained silent.

"You suspect that servant did it?" Kenny Lin asked.

"There’s at least a seventy percent chance," Amalia replied, turning her gaze toward the distant Pleiades Star System. "Even if he isn’t the one, once we capture the Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth members, we’ll interrogate them and find out who is."

The image of a Holy Gate of the Heaven and the Earth member with a tiger tattoo was burned into her mind.

Her goal was clear—to find this person.

Hopefully, they were still alive.

"If they’re dead, then when they resurrect, we’ll kill them again." Kenny Lin’s smile carried a chilling nonchalance.

Amalia studied him for a moment.

He often claimed to understand her better than anyone, and while he usually sounded unreliable, he did have an uncanny ability to guess her thoughts.
