Chapter 1214: The Price of Arrogance
He detested being looked down upon.
He had already made up his mind—if they refused him entry, then he would force his way in.
He refused to believe that he couldn’t deal with whoever was inside.
The captain of the guards could not stop him.
Jaime shoved him aside and forcefully strode into The Ember Throne Hall.
"Honored envoy, stop right there, or you will suffer consequences beyond your ability to bear," the captain of the guards warned.
However, instead of chasing after Jaime, he simply stood in place, watching him with an icy gaze.
Jaime didn’t notice, but Miralles did—he caught the brief flicker of schadenfreude and mockery in the captain’s eyes.
That was not the reaction of a weakling.
It could only mean one thing—the person inside The Ember Throne Hall was overwhelmingly powerful.
"Jaime, come back!" Miralles called out, but Jaime ignored him and disappeared through the doorway.
"Forget it. Let him go. Let him blow off some steam," Xiano yawned.
He didn’t particularly care where they stayed.
"That depends on who he’s messing with. I’m worried he’ll stir up trouble. Let’s follow him inside," Miralles said, a growing unease gnawing at him.
He had a feeling something was about to go very wrong.
"Alright," Xiano said indifferently.
The captain of the guards let out a soft sigh.
He had already tried stopping them multiple times.
If they insisted on courting death, there was nothing he could do.
However, he still followed them inside, lest they really got themselves killed by the two immortals.
The military power of the Erythar Star System had grown stronger than before, but compared to the Pleiades Star System, it was still far too weak.
Jaime stepped into The Ember Throne Hall, expecting someone to come out immediately.
To his surprise, the place was completely empty—vast and desolate—not at all what he imagined for a palace of the highest standard.
"Why is there no one here? Didn’t you say this place was already occupied?"
Feeling deceived, Jaime’s eyes burned with fury as he glared at the captain of the guards, who had followed him in.
An overwhelming pressure erupted from his body.
The sheer force of it nearly brought the captain of the guards to his knees, his legs buckling.
But just as he was about to collapse, the crushing weight vanished abruptly, leaving him feeling light as a feather.
His eyes lit up in realization.
There was no way these three envoys would have willingly let him go.
That meant the one who had helped him just now was likely one of the two immortals.
"Our most esteemed guest does not like to be attended to," the captain of the guards explained coldly.
Jaime disliked his attitude and was about to explode in anger when an overwhelming, crushing force suddenly descended upon him.
With a loud thud, Jaime was slammed to his knees without a moment to resist.
The impact was so heavy that the floor beneath him cracked open.
"Are you looking for me, envoy of the Pleiades Star System?"
Jaime’s eyes were bloodshot.
He used every ounce of his strength, but he couldn’t stand up.
Worse, he had a terrible premonition—if he tried to force himself up, his legs would surely be crippled.
The sound of his bones creaking and cracking made him freeze in place.
But the humiliation of being forced to kneel like this—of being completely powerless—ignited an unbearable fury within him.
His forehead bulged with hideous veins as rage burned inside him.
He wanted to lift his head, to see the person who had spoken—the one who had forced him to kneel.
But no matter how hard he tried, his head wouldn’t budge.
He remained locked in a posture of submission, kneeling before the unseen figure in absolute defeat.
A guttural, inaudible snarl escaped Jaime’s throat.
Miralles and Xiano, unaffected by the oppressive force, looked up to see a man standing on the wide corridor of the second floor.
It was as if he had been standing there all along.
Or perhaps he had simply appeared out of nowhere.
Before this moment, they hadn’t sensed his presence at all.
He had sharp, sculpted features, a high-bridged nose, and deep-set eyes.
His gaze was cold, distant—like that of an untouchable deity.
Even in the shadows, the glint of frost in his eyes was enough to send chills down their spines.
And he hadn’t even made a move yet—Jaime was already half-destroyed just from his mere presence.
Miralles finally understood.
This was why the captain of the guards—a man so weak they could crush him with a mere flick of their fingers—had dared to look at them with such mocking eyes.
A powerhouse of this level naturally deserved the highest-tier accommodations.
Miralles couldn’t gauge the full extent of the man’s strength, but he knew one thing for certain—if this man were in the Pleiades Star System, he would undoubtedly be treated as an honored guest of the highest rank.
To think that such a powerful cultivator resided in a civilization as primitive as the Erythar Star System.
Now, at last, he understood how the Draconis Empire had managed to hold onto Planet Veloxia.
"Honored Immortal, my friend acted recklessly. He has disturbed you, and for that, I offer my deepest apologies on his behalf," Miralles said.
Kenny Lin looked at him with amusement, though the coldness in his gaze did not waver.
He and Amalia had already noticed these people when they passed by The Ember Throne Hall earlier.
They had assumed they would simply walk away quietly.
Instead, they had chosen to come seeking death.
How fortunate.
He had been feeling bored.
"Do you think a simple apology is enough to erase his offense against me?" Kenny Lin asked, his lips curving into a smirk.
Miralles felt his scalp tighten, a crushing pressure weighing down on him.
If only he had realized sooner, this disaster could have been avoided.
"Honored Immortal, you are already punishing him, and we are envoys from the Pleiades Star System. I humbly ask for your mercy."
