Chapter 1160: The Gathering Storm

"With Aelra’s temper, I doubt he’ll accept that."

The Prince of Doomsday let out a cold laugh. "If he doesn’t agree, do you think I will?"

The attendees almost forgot—this prince was not to be trifled with either.

Now that he had a grudge against Aelra, it wouldn’t be easy to settle things peacefully.

"What exactly is Aelra up to? Skipping even a crucial meeting like this—could it be that the energy planet he found is something extraordinary, and he’s afraid the Prince of Doomsday will try to seize it?"

Some aliens couldn’t help but speculate, their greed surfacing.

If the energy planet was truly remarkable, they couldn’t just sit idly by.

The thought that Aelra might have stumbled upon a massive fortune only fueled their desire.

Since he was absent, they decided to proceed without him.

Offending Aelra might still leave room for negotiation, but offending the Prince of Doomsday?

That vengeful prince wouldn’t give them a chance to make amends.

An hour later, what was nominally a war strategy meeting but was in reality a loot distribution conference finally concluded.

With Aelra absent, the remaining parties were all able to claim a satisfying share of the spoils.

Meanwhile, over at the Draconis Empire, the atmosphere was heavy with gloom.

They had received news that the various alien factions were converging, making war inevitable.

Yet humanity was still unprepared.

On Planet Veloxia, within a hastily repaired palace—its roof previously bombed and then crudely patched up—

The Draconis Empire’s royal family, high-ranking officials, and a few people with an unusual aura had all gathered in the Royal Court.

"What insights do the honored immortals have to offer?"

Seated upon the throne in the Royal Court of the Draconis Empire, the Emperor—who should have been high and mighty—now wore a humble expression as he looked toward a group of peculiar people before him.

The so-called "immortals" he addressed were three elderly men and two young men.

Each of the five carried weapons—some hanging from their waists, others strapped to their backs.

Although they are clad in interstellar attire, they still bore the presence of lofty sages.

A middle-aged man with a thin mustache stepped forward slightly.

"Your Majesty, this war is inevitable. We can only face it head-on. Everything has its cause and consequence—where there is a knot, there is always a way to untie it."

The Emperor’s face lit up with joy as he eagerly asked, "The immortal speaks wisely. Then how should we counterattack in this battle?"

"The strength of the aliens lies in their battleships. They were equipped with technology far more advanced than that of the Draconis Empire. If we wish to turn the tide, perhaps we should focus on their battleships."

"Immortal Duan, we have discussed this matter as well. However, the aliens’ battleships possess formidable defenses and concentrate nearly eighty to ninety percent of their overall combat power. If we engage their battleships directly, it means facing the aliens head-on, which would put us at a great disadvantage."

A rough-looking general named Luhay Herrera, furrowed his brows deeply as he spoke.

Immortal Duan’s expression remained indifferent. "If even a general like you lacks the courage to fight, then why talk about waging war against the aliens? You might as well surrender now."

"Immortal Duan jests. War is not simply about charging forward with bravery—it requires strategy," Luhay replied in a deep voice.

"If that’s the case, then why don’t you use your strategy to win a battle and show us?" Immortal Duan looked at him with a faint, unreadable smile.

The young man beside Immortal Duan laughed. "The aliens are immensely powerful. Tactics alone won’t work against them. If they did, would the esteemed generals here still need to seek our aid?"

"Then, may I ask the immortals to help us breach the aliens’ battleships?" one of the generals said flatly.

Before Immortal Duan could respond, the young man at his side turned cold.

"That is hardly the attitude of someone asking for help."

"The honored Immortal is joking. We seek your assistance for the sake of victory. We will have to rely on you for the battles ahead," the Emperor quickly interjected, sensing the immortals’ displeasure.

He even shot a sharp look at Luhay and the outspoken general.

"I am but a rough warrior. If my words have offended the immortals, I ask for forgiveness," Luhay admitted, setting aside his pride for the greater good.

"Whether we can hold Planet Veloxia depends on you, honored immortals," the other general also lowered his head slightly, though with some reluctance.

Seeing this, the immortals revealed satisfied expressions.

"There is nothing to discuss further. When the war begins, we fight—simple as that. Your Majesty may continue strategizing with General Herrera and the others. As for us, we will take our leave. When the battle erupts, we will naturally appear."

With that, Immortal Duan turned to leave, followed closely by the other immortals under his command.

Once they were gone, a guard came forward to report that they had left the Royal Court.

At that moment, Laith Herrera could no longer hold back and cursed in frustration.

"General Herrera, please do not get angry. Be careful, as trouble often arises from the mouth," Luhay reminded.

The Emperor sighed lightly. "I apologize for making you endure this."

"There is no need for such words, Your Majesty. For the sake of the Draconis Empire, it is only natural," Luhay replied calmly. "As long as it can save the Draconis Empire, this small grievance is nothing."

"But it’s still damn frustrating. They really think they’re so impressive," Laith Herrera grumbled, his chest burning with anger.

"They are indeed quite impressive," Minister Sharif Valencia, looking around the room at everyone.

He then shook his head with a sense of things changing.

Just over a year ago, these people had been at each other’s throats, fighting bitterly.

Now, many familiar faces had disappeared, and the remaining ones had no idea when their turn would come.
