Chapter 1099: Shadron’s Despair

"Excuse me, Are you looking for something?" a timid voice suddenly called out beside them.

They turned to see a child hidden in the shadows of a narrow alley, nervously watching them.

With their sharp perception, they quickly observed the child’s appearance.

The child wore tattered, almost beggar-like clothes.

His exposed skin was covered in dust, but his eyes shone brightly.

"What do you want?" Amalia asked, suspecting the child had ulterior motives.

A timid child wouldn’t approach strangers out of mere goodwill.

"Do you have any food?" the child cautiously asked.

"Is food scarce here?" Amalia countered.

Although her question wasn’t answered directly, the child’s eyes lit up.

These two people were dressed neatly and seemed unaware of the planet’s condition.

They were likely outsiders—and outsiders usually carried food.

"The war’s been going on for over a year. All the food on this planet, Shadron, has long been consumed," the child explained.

"Why hasn’t anyone sent aid or supplies?" Amalia asked.

The child shook his head, the brightness in his eyes dimming. "The spaceships were destroyed a long time ago. We can’t leave, and this planet is on the fringes of the Erythar Star System. No one prioritizes us. Besides, other planets are also engulfed in war. They wouldn’t share their resources with us."

Hearing the words "Erythar Star System," Amalia’s body tensed slightly.

This was her previous life’s world.

She distinctly remembered the existence of a star system named Erythar Star System.

The Erythar Star System was part of the empire where she was born.

Although not vast, the Erythar Star System offered immense possibilities, with many inhabited planets.

"Are there no military forces here besides you civilians? Doesn’t anyone care if you live or die?" Amalia pressed.

"They do, but their casualties are far heavier than ours. The enemy’s firepower is more advanced, their forces stronger, and without supply support, our soldiers are already at their limits," the child replied truthfully.

Amalia extended her divine sense and did spot several people in military uniforms.

However, like the civilians, they sat despondently by the roadside, their expressions vacant.

Reaching into her pocket, Amalia pulled out a small vial and tossed it to the child.

"I don’t have food for you, but this will keep you full," she said.

She and Kenny Lin had long stopped relying on food, having cultivated to the point of subsisting on spiritual energy.

Initially, the change had been difficult to adjust to, but after a few months of persistence, the habit stuck.

Although disappointed by the lack of food, the child didn’t refuse the vial of water.

Water, after all, was just as scarce on Shadron as food.

Just then, the ground shook violently, accompanied by a deafening boom, likely the result of artillery fire.

The city’s central alarms blared, a shrill warning of an incoming attack.

Amalia and Kenny Lin saw the expressions of despair spread across the survivors’ faces in the street.

"They’re back, they’re back!" The child’s face twisted in fear, and he turned around to run.

Kenny Lin who is as quick as ever, grabbed the child’s arm. "What do you mean, they’re back?"

"Aliens—they’ve come again! The last time was ten days ago. Normally, they take at least a month before attacking again!" The child struggled, but Kenny Lin’s grip was like iron.

Seeing the child’s genuine terror, Amalia gestured for Kenny Lin to release him.

The child dashed into a nearby alley, blending with others taking cover.

Only when the child had calmed down enough to stop trembling did they speak again.

"What kind of aliens are you talking about? Can you tell me more? I promise you’ll be safe," Amalia said gently.

The child looked at her blankly, as though too exhausted to respond.

The constant threat of death seemed to have drained his will to resist.

He was incredulous that anyone still didn’t know about the aliens.

"Or maybe," Amalia rephrased, "you could tell me where these enemies are coming from."

"Interesting. They seem to be a peculiar kind of lifeform," Kenny Lin commented, his divine sense already probing far into the distance.

He had spotted numerous enemies hovering high in Shadron’s skies.

The enemies were varied—some piloted powerful mechs, while others flew through the air unaided.

The airborne creatures bore a resemblance to beasts but also displayed humanlike features, as if their DNA were a blend of human and monster.

The beings inside the mechs were similarly hybridized—half-human, half-beast—but lacking wings, they were unable to fly.

Whether piloting mechs or soaring through the skies, these creatures wielded incredible destructive power.

They seemed to know the humans on this planet had lost the ability to resist.

Their maniacal laughter echoed across the battlefield, a cruel celebration as they launched selective and calculated attacks.

"They’re the aliens that invaded our homeland," the child said with trembling voice. "They’re higher-dimensional beings from a high-dimensional space. Born with immense power, they don’t need the technological enhancements humans rely on to gain strength."

The child’s fear grew as he spoke, his body beginning to tremble once more.

"Our nation’s most advanced mechs couldn’t even withstand a single blow from them before being obliterated."

"What year is it now in the Galaxy Calendar?" Amalia suddenly asked.

"Year 2459," the child replied.

"Is this your world?" Kenny Lin asked, studying her expression.

Amalia nodded his head faintly. "Yes... and no. The timing is off. When I left, it was the year 2497. Twenty years have passed. I didn’t expect something like this to happen. Aliens from higher dimensions invading a lower-dimensional space... How is that possible?"

"I thought this era’s technology was at the forefront of history, yet there’s an even higher dimension of existence," Kenny Lin mused.

"There’s nothing impossible about it," Amalia replied calmly. "Mystic Void Continent’s technology is far more primitive than Earth’s, yet in terms of power, it surpasses even these aliens."

Of course, that was true for now.

However, In the future, Mystic Void Continent’s fate might differ.
