Chapter 83: Chapter 83 Mutation

"Exactly as it sounds. There are some things we of the second house must strive for ourselves, otherwise, people will indeed treat us as if we are diseased cats." Evelyn Hart’s lips slowly curled into a cold smile, a hint of complexity flashing in her eyes.

"Clara, do you feel unwilling to accept this?"

"Of course."

Clara Shaw answered without hesitation.

Why does she have to spend months of her allowance to buy a single piece of clothing, while Serena can easily obtain it?

"Then do as I say."

Evelyn Hart motioned Clara Shaw to come closer with a crook of her finger.

Clara Shaw, puzzled, obediently moved closer.

Evelyn Hart leaned in and whispered a few words into Clara Shaw’s ear.

Clara Shaw’s eyes suddenly lit up.

"Is it really okay to do this?" She looked at Evelyn Hart hesitantly.

"Just go ahead; I’ll cover for you if anything happens," Evelyn Hart waved her hand nonchalantly.

Serena was completely unaware that she was being plotted against, she casually washed up and went downstairs.

Ever since Evan Summers left the Shaw Family, he hadn’t appeared again.

Serena was glad for the relief.

Her feelings for the Summers Family were complicated.

She was joyful at heart when she learned her biological parents were still alive.

Before joining the Summers Family, her heart was filled with anticipation.

However, a month of interaction made her utterly disappointed with the Summers Family.

Fortunately, she had already severed ties with the Summers Family.

She hoped they wouldn’t bother her again in the future; otherwise, she would not be polite!

Serena relished her breakfast with great delight, and after eating and drinking her fill, her eyes brimmed with satisfaction.

She gently rubbed her belly and had the driver take her to S University.

Following the hot water incident, Serena had become a notable figure at S University.

Everybody knew that Professor Shaw’s lab had gained a young and attractive medical researcher.

As Serena entered the laboratory building, she saw someone standing in front of the lab door.

"Professor Parker?"

Serena looked at the person standing by the door, a hint of surprise in her voice.

Hearing Serena’s voice, Mason quickly turned around.

A joyful expression appeared on his face, "Serena, good morning."

"Good morning, Professor. What brings you here? Are you looking for my brother?"

"No, I am here to see you." Professor Parker looked at Serena seriously and pleaded, "Serena, I know some unpleasant things have made you uncomfortable recently, but please don’t reject my request, okay?"

"We at S University really lack a teacher skilled in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am here on behalf of the university to extend a sincere invitation to you again."

Professor Parker looked earnestly and sincerely at Serena, his tone full of entreaty.

Serena hesitated and frowned, "Professor, it’s not that I’m unwilling to agree, but I really have no teaching experience. I feel I am not competent for this position."

Serena initially learned medicine from her master just for fun and never thought about pursuing it as a career.

Serena liked freedom and hated being constrained.

Being a teacher or such, no thanks at all.

"Serena, won’t you reconsider? If you come to teach at S University, you will be a distinguished faculty member with all the salary and benefits of a full employee..."

Professor Parker was about to continue persuading.

"Professor, you know, I’m not short of money." Serena helplessly curled her lips.

Professor Parker was taken aback.

Indeed, Serena was not short of money; any medicine she prepared could fetch sky-high prices.

An S University salary meant nothing to her.

Realizing this, Professor Parker gave a bitter smile.

"Serena, I hope you really consider it. If you could pass on your medical knowledge to the students, it would be a huge contribution to the heritage of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Corland."

Serena pursed her lips, pondering how to tactfully refuse, when Liam Shaw suddenly walked out of the lab.

Seeing the two standing outside, a hint of surprise flashed in Liam’s eyes.

"Professor Parker, what brings you here?"

Seeing Liam Shaw, Professor Parker’s eyes brightened instantly, grabbing his arm earnestly, "Liam, you’ve come at the perfect time, help me persuade Serena. She is truly talented."

"Professor, I respect Serena’s wishes. Besides, Serena has been researching the poison inside Lucas’s body lately; she probably won’t have time to teach."

Professor Parker’s face fell into disappointment upon hearing this.

He sighed deeply, resigned, "Alright, the old man’s illness is more important. If Serena changes her mind, she can come to me anytime."

Serena quickly nodded with a smile in agreement.

After Professor Parker left, Serena looked at Liam Shaw, who showed a helpless expression.

"Professor Parker is just like that, Serena, don’t take it to heart."

"No worries. I know Professor Parker is very dedicated to preserving Traditional Chinese Medicine, but right now, I just want to cure my husband’s poison. Though, if you had come a bit later, I might have caved in."

Serena slowly exhaled, her eyes filled with the relief of surviving a narrow escape.

Liam Shaw chuckled helplessly, "It seems I still serve some purpose."

"Of course!"

"Alright, come on in." Liam Shaw made way, motioning Serena into the lab.

Three hours later, Serena approached Liam Shaw with a grave expression.

"Big brother, has anyone tampered with my samples?"

"Why would you ask that? All your stuff is locked in the cabinet, and you’re the only one with the key," Liam Shaw’s eyes were filled with confusion.

Serena pursed her lips and handed Liam Shaw the folder, her expression uneasy.

"That’s strange. I always place a strand of hair in the files when I store them. This morning when I fetched the files, the hair was gone. I retested the samples, and the data is different from what was previously recorded."

Liam Shaw’s pupils constricted immediately, taking the folder to inspect.

"This data, why has it changed so drastically? Serena, are you sure there’s no mistake?"

"There’s no mistake. Either the samples were tampered with or there’s a special inducer causing the samples to mutate."

Seeing the commotion, Sean Wynn and Emily Green, among others, quickly left their work and gathered around.

"A mutation? Are you sure, Serena? If it truly is a mutation, that could be troublesome!"

Sean Wynn moved closer in surprise, his tone involuntarily rising a few notches.

Liam Shaw’s gaze fixated on the data displayed in the file, his face growing increasingly grim.

Serena pursed her lips, her expression also turning somber, "The elements in this sample mutate rapidly, completely different from before."

"You mean someone tampered with it?"

Liam Shaw looked at Serena coldly, his brows deeply furrowed.

Serena nodded and said, "Last night I checked my husband’s pulse; at first glance, it seemed normal, but it was actually quite irregular."

For someone in critical condition, an irregular pulse is definitely not a good sign.
