Chapter 262: Chapter 262 Big Uncle
Dean Carter laughed heartily and explained, "You should know Professor Parker, right? He was in the Imperial Capital a few days ago, and I met him. He’s the one who told me."
"Professor Parker came to the Imperial Capital?" Serena Summers asked in surprise.
Lucas Shaw glanced over with a deep and impenetrable look in his eyes that made it difficult to discern his expression.
"Yes, there was a seminar a few days ago, many medical experts from both domestic and international circles attended. I wanted to take you there for a visit, but I heard you’ve been busy lately, so I didn’t call you."
"Dean, which hospital are you at?" Serena asked again.
Dean Carter gave her the name of the hospital, which happened to be the one where Old Master Lane was staying.
"What a coincidence, I was just heading there and am already on the way."
"That’s great, call me when you arrive, and I’ll have someone come out to meet you."
After hanging up the phone, Serena looked at Lucas Shaw, who was driving, with a complex expression.
"What’s wrong?" Lucas, noticing Serena’s gaze, asked in confusion.
Serena pondered for a moment without immediately responding to his question but instead countered, "Have you been in touch with Professor Parker recently?"
"No, I’ve been busy dealing with work these past few days. Where would I have the time to contact him?" Lucas was perplexed.
A sudden drop in Serena’s heart made her face, pale as porcelain, turn more serious.
"So how did he know we would come to the Imperial Capital today?"
Lucas suddenly stomped on the brake and pulled the car to a stop by the roadside.
Serena, unprepared, lurched forward and glared at him, "Couldn’t you have given me a heads-up before braking?"
"Sorry." Lucas touched his nose, his eyes full of apology.
He reached out to adjust Serena’s disheveled hair, then spoke in a deep voice, "It must have been Grandpa or my elder brother who told him, my brother met him a few days ago. If Professor Parker really had a problem, why would he wait until now?"
Professor Parker had been treating him for many years, starting over a decade ago.
Throughout these years, despite suffering from his condition, it was Professor Parker’s medication that helped him endure.
Although his condition hadn’t improved much over the years, he had done his utmost.
Moreover, he was his brother’s mentor and had shown him great favor, making it hard for Lucas to suspect him.
"You’re right, perhaps I’m just being overly suspicious. Let’s go to the hospital and talk about these things later." Serena also felt she might be overthinking it.
Although she hadn’t interacted much with Professor Parker, she knew him well enough. His expertise was highly regarded nationally, and he was also a junior colleague of her master.
As Lucas had pointed out, if Professor Parker really wanted to harm them, he had countless opportunities in the past. Why would he choose now to expose himself so obviously?
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
Serena and Lucas entered and soon saw a familiar figure waving at them from afar.
"Junior sister! Mr. Shaw."
"Senior David?" Serena, surprised, looked at the man approaching them, who was supposed to be in Prosperity Hill. What was he doing in the Imperial Capital?
Noticing the confusion in Serena’s eyes, William David explained, "Actually, I was assigned here from that hospital for experience and have now officially been transferred to the Imperial Capital."
"Are you not going back then?" Serena asked.
William David nodded, his gaze intent on Serena.
Initially, he wanted to go to S City to find more opportunities to be near her. However, the dean hoped he would return to the Imperial Capital.
He had hesitated for a long time, and before making up his mind, he messaged Serena to ask how she was doing.
She said she was doing well.
Those days, he was heartbroken and lacked enthusiasm in everything he did. Once the procedures were completed, he went straight back to the Imperial Capital.
After all, he had lived there for several years and had clinical surgical experience, so he was quickly employed.
Lucas, who had been quietly observing, squinted his eyes, clearly displeased.
He remembered this man almost confessing his feelings to his wife.
Fortunately, he had stopped it in time, otherwise, if this man had really gone to S City, he would definitely try to meet Serena.
"Cough, cough..." Lucas, holding a fist to his lips, coughed a few times to interrupt the exchange between the two.
Serena turned her head towards him, asking worriedly, "Do you have a sore throat?"
"It’s nothing." Lucas slightly curved the corners of his lips and, taking advantage of the moment, took Serena’s hand and led her into the hospital.
As they passed William David, he gave him a challenging look.
Serena was preoccupied with other thoughts and didn’t notice the undercurrents between the two men.
Being led by Lucas, her other hand rested on his arm as she looked up at him, "Are you sure you’re okay?"
In that moment, all of Serena’s attention was captured by Lucas, thus she overlooked the lonely expression in William David’s eyes.
He stood there for a while before coming back to his senses, chuckling self-derisively.
He knew better than anyone that some subconscious actions and reactions couldn’t deceive people.
When Serena faced him, her attitude was always polite yet distant, but every move Lucas made affected her deeply.
The person ahead suddenly stopped, causing both Lucas and Serena to turn around and look at him.
"Senior David?"
William David snapped back to reality, realizing his lapse, and quickly followed up, telling them, "The dean said the surgery isn’t going to be too complicated. Initially, he wanted me to try, but the patient’s family disagreed, so the dean had to step in personally."
"What’s the patient suffering from?"
"The patient had severe hypertension before and recently suffered acute distress leading to a collapse. It also triggered some complications..."
Serena listened intently, silently noting down the details.
Once they reached the office, Dean Carter immediately waved at her, "Serena, come over."
In the dean’s office stood an imposing man.
Dressed in a suit and tie, he had a stern face and his eyes were as sharp as blades.
"Let me introduce you, this is Justin Lane, the head of Lane Group, Mr. Lane, this is our institute’s pride and one of our most outstanding medical students, Serena Summers." Dean Carter stood up and introduced them.
Serena curiously looked at the man before her, noting he bore some resemblance to Julian Lane.
Yet their temperaments were markedly different.
Julian was lazy and casual, carefree yet meticulous in his work.
The man before her radiated an icy demeanor, and upon making eye contact with Lucas Shaw, it was as if two blocks of ice were colliding.
"Uncle!" Serena didn’t hold back and directly called him.
Upon hearing Dean Carter’s introduction, Justin Lane had recognized the girl’s identity.
He was taken aback by her straightforward manner.
Justin lowered his gaze, observing the girl before him. Her skin was pale, her build petite, and her facial features refined, bearing some resemblance to the Lane family.
The surprise was not only his but also that of Dean Carter and William David.
