Chapter 255: Chapter 255: From Now On, Spend Every Festival Together
Before leaving, Henry Summers warned, "Don’t even think about telling the Lane Family about this. I have a hundred ways to ensure you’ll never walk out of this door in your life. You should know me, Jeanette."
Henry Summers’ lips curled into a smile, calling her by her nickname, gentle as always, but Jeanette Lane felt like she had fallen into an icy cavern, her whole body cold.
After he walked away, Jeanette Lane could no longer hold back and burst into loud sobbing.
She was wrong.
She regretted...
Love and affection can be feigned after all, and she hurt her family who loved her the most for a heartless scoundrel.
Laboratory.
Serena Summers was busy conducting research at the lab bench, while nearby on a sofa, Lucas Shaw had his laptop on his lap, focusing intently and earnestly on his work.
Every now and then, he would lift his gaze to peek at the busy figure not far away.
These past few days, Serena Summers had been tirelessly working almost without sleep, even more focused than him, a workaholic.
Over ten days, she had lost weight, and the white lab coat she wore hung loosely on her frame.
Previously, Serena Summers never allowed outsiders during her experiments, but this laboratory was her own, so he had been staying here all these days.
During the day, she was busy with her experiments, and he took care of his work.
She would often forget the time and meals while experimenting, and Lucas Shaw would remind her on time, insisting she eat with him.
These days, Flavor Pavilion was temporarily closed for business, and all the chefs were busy preparing various nutritious meals for their boss lady.
In the back kitchen of Flavor Pavilion, everyone was on high alert, the atmosphere had never been this tense.
Because the food delivery person said that the lady barely ate a few bites, and every time they saw the second master, he had a serious look on his face.
They had a premonition that if they couldn’t make food to the lady’s taste, they’d likely be fired.
So, nobody dared to slack off.
In the afternoon, the head chef received a phone call from Lucas Shaw and finally showed a hint of a smile on his face.
Soon, everyone started to get busy again.
Lucas Shaw closed his laptop, staring at Serena Summers’ back.
His little wife, even when busy, seemed so charming, as if her whole body radiated light, brilliant and dazzling, drawing the eye irresistibly.
He pulled out his cellphone from his pocket, opened the camera, and took a photo of Serena Summers’ back.
Satisfied with the photo on his phone, Lucas Shaw’s lips slightly curved, and he set the picture as his phone’s wallpaper.
When the sky outside slowly darkened, Serena Summers finally lifted her head from the lab bench.
She stretched, turning to look at Lucas Shaw sitting on the sofa.
Lucas Shaw was looking at her, his deep and dark eyes brimming with tenderness.
"Are you finished?" Lucas Shaw asked with a husky voice.
"Um, almost," Serena Summers tidied up the things on the lab bench and put them back in place, then took off her white lab coat and walked towards the sofa.
As she approached the sofa, her wrist was suddenly tightly grasped by a cool hand.
Then her waist tightened, her body felt weightless, and by the time she realized it, Serena Summers was already seated on Lucas Shaw’s lap.
She was held tightly in the man’s arms, a warm breath slowly wafting across her ear.
The tingly sensation at the tip of her ear felt like electric currents spreading to her limbs and body.
The man chuckled helplessly, "If you didn’t stop, I would probably have had to interrupt you."
Serena Summers was startled, then realized what the man meant.
He was complaining that she was too absorbed in her research, neglecting him.
Her dark eyes rolled, and she lifted her slender arms to circle his neck, leaning in to place a light kiss on his lips.
"Mr. Shaw, here’s your compensation, please don’t be mad, okay?"
"One kiss is hardly enough..." The soft touch on his lips deepened the look in Lucas Shaw’s eyes as he, taking the initiative, drew her closer and deepened the kiss.
The intense masculine scent of the man was almost enveloping Serena Summers tightly, leaving her no chance to escape.
She could only let him take and ask for whatever he wanted.
Serena Summers clearly felt the man’s lips transform from slightly cool to scalding hot, as if intending to melt her.
Eyes that were usually calm and unrippled now shimmered with a glaze of desire.
It took who knows how long before Lucas Shaw ended the kiss, letting Serena go.
Serena breathed in small gasps, resting in his embrace, her eyes brimming with a tender, charming allure.
Her lips glittered with a moist sheen, as inviting as ripe, lush cherries, tempting to pluck.
Her appearance was as provocative as can be.
Lucas Shaw held her, struggling to restrain his surging desire.
Serena struggled a bit, trying to get out of the man’s embrace, but found herself held even tighter.
"Don’t move recklessly, unless you want something to happen here," the man’s husky voice, laced with a warning, came from above her head. Serena immediately sensed danger and hurriedly curled up in his embrace, staying still.
The laboratory was unnervingly silent.
Holding each other, all that could be heard were their breaths and heartbeats.
The atmosphere became even more ambiguous.
After what seemed like an eternity, Serena felt her legs were about to go numb, and only then did Lucas Shaw finally let out a long breath.
He pinched Serena’s soft and slender waist, lifting her from his lap, and then rose from the couch.
He straightened his suit, which was slightly wrinkled, still wearing that distant and ascetic demeanor.
No one could have guessed that, just a moment before, the person now acting all serious was trying to control desires as tumultuous as huge waves.
Serena couldn’t help but snicker, somewhat mischievously.
Lucas Shaw narrowed his eyes and, pretending nothing had happened, took Serena’s hand and walked out of the laboratory.
He drove her to the Flavor Pavilion.
To Serena’s surprise, she found the décor here appeared somewhat different from what it was on her previous visits.
The Flavor Pavilion’s previous design was minimalist and grand, with understated luxury.
But now, it was filled with romance.
Colorful balloons and fairy lights hung throughout the hall, and petals were scattered all over the floor.
Walking to the courtyard in the back, Serena discovered a gigantic heart-shaped arrangement made of rose petals on the lawn by the lake.
The ambiance was romantic and beautiful.
While Serena was still in a daze, Lucas Shaw suddenly approached and hugged her from behind.
"Happy Qixi Festival, Mrs. Shaw."
Serena’s eyes widened in surprise.
Qixi?
Is today Qixi?
Looking into her puzzled eyes, Lucas Shaw helplessly shook his head, opened the calendar on his phone, and handed it to her.
"Mrs. Shaw, how can you have no recollection of such an important festival?"
Serena felt somewhat guilty.
She seldom celebrated festivals before, and her most vivid memory was probably receiving red envelopes from her master and senior brothers during the Lunar New Year.
As for the others...
Without red envelopes, she couldn’t be bothered to remember.
After hearing her reasoning, Lucas Shaw laughed, at a loss for words for a moment, not sure how to respond.
"Mrs. Shaw, this is our first Qixi Festival together. I hope from now on, for the rest of our lives, I can spend every Qixi Festival with you."
