Chapter 233: Chapter 233 Your Blood Has a Problem
Not until a sense of suffocation arose, and his lips turned both tender and numb, did Lucas Shaw finally let Serena Summers go.
Lucas Shaw looked down, gazing at Serena, and noticed her serious face and lowered gaze, unsure of what she was pondering.
"What’s wrong?" he asked.
Suddenly, Serena extended her hand, her pale, delicate palm resting on his shoulder. Before his thoughts could run wild, his body was turned around.
Lucas Shaw, confused, suddenly heard Serena’s voice filled with tension, "Your blood... there’s a problem."
"What problem?"
"I’m not sure yet, but there’s definitely a problem." Serena quickly picked up the blood-stained gauze she had previously used, wrapped it in a vacuum bag, stood up, and walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Lucas Shaw followed her pace, his handsome and aloof face also taking a turn for the serious.
"I need to go to the laboratory; you wait for me at home, I’ll be back soon," Serena paused, instructing Lucas Shaw as she looked at him.
Lucas Shaw, holding Serena’s hand, said, "I’ll go with you."
Serena shook her head, "No need, you just rest at home. Besides, you won’t be able to get into the laboratory."
That was true.
Lucas Shaw, helplessly let go of Serena, but still felt uneasy after she was nearly harmed by Grace Summers earlier.
"I’ll have Brandon Reese take you there."
"Okay." This time Serena didn’t refuse; after all, she didn’t really feel like driving herself.
Liam Shaw was just about to leave the laboratory when he opened the door and happened to bump into Serena, who was hastily making her way there.
"Serena, why are you here? I heard that Lucas got hurt? I was just about to head back and check on him."
"Big brother, I need to use the laboratory," Serena’s face was somewhat pale, her expression revealing her anxiety.
Liam Shaw didn’t know what had happened, but he stepped aside to let Serena in.
He glanced at Serena, took out his phone from his pocket, and stepped outside to make a call to Lucas Shaw.
After confirming that Lucas Shaw was alright, he breathed a sigh of relief and went back into the laboratory.
Serena hadn’t been to the laboratory in a long time, so everyone greeted her warmly.
After responding to each of them, Serena began to start her research with the instruments.
Seeing her so focused, the people who wanted to ask her questions one by one closed their mouths.
Time flew by, and by the time Serena looked up again, the sky outside had darkened.
Serena had stood in front of the lab table for a full five hours, and when she came to her senses, everyone was already preparing to leave work.
She looked at the results of her study, her feelings conflicted for a moment.
Lucas Shaw’s blood indeed had a problem, but it wasn’t as she had speculated—not a blood mutation or poisoning.
On the contrary, his blood could be the remedy for detoxification,
Especially—neutralizing the poison in her body.
Logically, this situation shouldn’t have occurred; somehow, something went wrong, and through a twist of fate, Lucas Shaw’s blood cells changed.
For a moment, she didn’t know whether to feel happy or worried.
"Is something wrong? Do you need my help?" Liam Shaw approached Serena, his eyes full of concern.
Serena handed him her test data without saying a word.
Liam Shaw glanced over the data report with an indifferent expression, but his gaze suddenly became intense upon seeing the data clearly.
"Is this... Lucas’s blood?"
"Yes." Serena Summers nodded, she had no intention of hiding the truth from Liam Shaw, otherwise, she wouldn’t have chosen to come here.
Liam Shaw put down the report and raised his eyes to Serena, "That’s good news. If his blood can really save you, he won’t be as self-critical as he is now."
Serena shook her head, wishing it were that simple.
A thought flashed through Liam Shaw’s mind, "Are you worried that if someone finds out, it could be harmful to Lucas?"
"Yes. The organization from seventeen years ago wasn’t completely eradicated; those people might still be alive in this world, and it’s even possible that they have been secretly conducting their experiments all these years. I dare not imagine what they would do to him if they knew that Lucas’s blood can neutralize poison."
Liam Shaw sighed heavily with a grave expression; this was indeed a thorny issue.
"Alright, don’t get too anxious. Lucas isn’t as fragile as you think," he said softly, trying to comfort her.
"Okay. Big brother, don’t tell anyone else about this for now. The more people who know, the more danger Lucas is in."
"I understand."
Only Serena and Liam Shaw were left in the laboratory. They walked out of S University together and found a familiar car waiting by the roadside.
Serena ran over first. The car door was pushed open from the inside, and Lucas Shaw stepped out and embraced her in a tight hug.
Seeing this familiar sight again and again was a huge blow to his single self.
Liam Shaw helplessly touched his forehead, suddenly feeling a bit bitter.
"Why are you working so late? Are you tired?" Lucas Shaw held Serena’s hand as they got into the car, with Liam Shaw following closely, sitting in the passenger seat.
Serena didn’t mention the results of the experiment but simply said she wasn’t tired.
In fact, she was a bit tired after standing for several hours, her energy nearly depleted.
Lucas Shaw wrapped his arm around her slender waist, letting her lean into his chest, and his warm palm cradled her cheek, resting it on his shoulder, "Rest for a while. I’ll wake you when we get home."
Leaning in the warm embrace of the man, Serena slowly felt sleep sneaking upon her, and just as she was about to drift off, she felt her body lift into the air.
She stirred, trying to open her eyes, but a gentle, soothing voice came to her ears, "Sleep, don’t be afraid, I’m here."
Perhaps it was the warmth of his embrace, or the tenderness of his voice, but Serena actually fell into a deep sleep.
When she woke up, it was well into the night.
Lucas Shaw had just come out of the shower, with only a towel wrapped around his waist, a bare chest, clearly defined abs, and the sexy V-line flowing smoothly into the towel, exuding a silent allure.
Serena didn’t expect to wake up to such a striking scene and instinctively swallowed.
"Husband."
"Awake? Get up and have something to eat." Lucas Shaw’s lips curved slightly as he sat at the edge of the bed, wiping his hair with one hand and holding her slender and soft wrist with the other.
Serena hugged his arm, coquettishly saying, "I don’t want to get up."
"Then wait for me for a while. I’ll go bring the food up," Lucas Shaw got up, ready to go downstairs.
Serena suddenly sat up from the bed.
She covered her mouth with a yawn, a tear beading at the corner of her eyes, adding a hint of mistiness to her gaze.
"I’ll go by myself," Serena said slowly as she got out of bed, slipping into her pink slippers, and walked out.
Watching her half-asleep demeanor, Lucas Shaw couldn’t help but let out a light chuckle.
Worried that Serena might trip on the way, Lucas Shaw quickly followed her.
