Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire
Chapter 209 Collecting Evidence

Chapter 209: Chapter 209 Collecting Evidence

The hotel, Declan Summers came back with a look of despair on his face.

Evan Summers stood up, walked over to Declan, and asked anxiously, "How did it go? Did she agree?"

Declan shook his head, his face full of bitterness, "Evan, let’s not disturb her life anymore. She doesn’t need our apologies now."

"How... how could that be? We’re her real brothers!" Eventually, Evan found it hard to continue, slowly squatted down, hugged his head, and became withdrawn.

Declan shook his head, "She’s very happy now and doesn’t want us to disturb her. We should respect her choice."

If Serena Summers was not happy, they would have had enough reason to bring her back.

But now, Serena Summers is doing well.

Without them, without the Summers Family, she would only be happier.

So, they no longer have any reason to disturb her.

But Evan, as if possessed, still stubbornly insisted on his own thoughts, "It’s not like that, bro, it’s not like that... I just want to make amends. It was my fault in the past."

"I think now of the time when she was just born, how adorable she was, I used to love sitting by her cradle, I could sit there all day..."

Back then, he would brag to everyone about having a cute and soft little sister.

But then...

Then...

How could he lose his own sister over an outsider?

He’s such a scumbag!

He... he doesn’t deserve to be Serena Summers’ brother!

"Slap—" Evan slapped himself across the face, his eyes red-rimmed.

Declan squatted down and patted Evan on the shoulder, "Don’t think too much, from now on... if she doesn’t like us being close, then let’s do something for her in secret, as a form of atonement."

"In secret?"

Evan looked up in confusion.

Declan nodded, "Yeah, but I’m not sure yet exactly how to do it. No matter what, she’s still our real sister."

"Yeah, you’re right, bro," Evan sniffled, reaching to wipe the tears from the corner of his eyes.

The Summers Family home.

Grace Summers dialed Evan’s phone number over and over again.

But she could never get through.

Actually, she had noticed something off a long time ago; she didn’t know when, but Evan had started to distance himself from her.

He used to bring her all sorts of strange and interesting knick-knacks when he came home, but that had stopped for some time now.

Now, even the phone calls wouldn’t go through.

For some reason, Grace suddenly felt a sense of panic.

She then dialed Declan’s number.

It was quickly answered.

A deep voice tinged with coolness came through.

"What is it?"

Grace had been so hopeful when the call went through, but now she felt as if cold water had been poured over her.

She couldn’t believe her ears; was the person on the other end really the brother who had doted on her for over a decade?

Why did he sound so unfamiliar?

"Bro, it’s Grace. I, I finally got through to you, I thought I did something wrong and you were angry with me," Grace said in grief, sobbing softly as she curled up on her bed.

The hotel, Declan rubbed his temples.

If it were before, hearing Grace crying so sadly, he would definitely have comforted her well.

But now, that strange feeling in his heart rose up again.

After a moment of silence, he finally figured out what was amiss.

Trapped in the mountains for several days, heavy rains pouring down, when Grace Summers called, there was not a word of comfort or inquiry, just relentless crying.

"Is something the matter? If not, I’m going to hang up." Declan Summers impatiently took the phone away from his ear, ready to end the call.

"Don’t hang up! Big brother, I need to ask for your help," Grace hurriedly said.

"What do you need?"

"You probably don’t know yet, but at my engagement party, Serena Summers played an audio recording that has ruined my reputation."

Declan listened patiently, finally understanding the purpose of Grace’s call.

"Do you want me to clear things up for you?"

Grace’s cheeks flushed slightly, her voice tentative, "Can you? I know you care about me the most. Please, just help me this one time."

"Grace, I’m willing to help you, but first, you have to answer a question for me."

Hearing this, a sliver of hope ignited within Grace, "What question?"

Declan’s grip on his phone tightened, his voice low and deep, "Those audio recordings, are they real?"

"Of course not! Serena has been intentionally framing me!"

Realizing her voice had become too piercing, Grace panicked. She immediately reverted to her usual demure and understanding demeanor.

"I know she hates me for stealing her life, so I don’t blame her. It’s just that... acting is my dream; I don’t want to give it up."

"I understand," Declan sneered after hanging up the phone.

Evan Summers had already come to him and reported the results of the investigation he conducted back at home.

Before coming here, Evan had secretly spoken to the household staff. Under a mixture of threats and inducements, some revealed all of Grace’s misdeeds toward Serena.

Some servants had the foresight to retain evidence.

Had he not seen it with his own eyes, Declan would never believe that the sister he had cherished for over a decade could be so duplicitous behind his back.

"Big brother, what do you plan to do?" Evan sat on the edge of the bed, silent for a long while before slowly speaking up.

"Kick Grace out of the Summers Family," Declan said with a grim expression.

Their biological daughter had been found; it was undoubtedly time to stop raising someone else’s child.

Evan scoffed, "Big brother, aren’t you being too whimsical? Mom and Dad are completely taken by her right now, especially Mom. She’s been so charmed, adamantly insisting on keeping her here."

Declan pursed his lips, falling into thought, "I’ll have someone keep an eye on Grace; first, we’ll gather evidence. When the proof is overwhelming, she won’t have the chance to make excuses."

Evan nodded, as there was no other choice.

Far away in S City, Grace stared at the phone that had been hung up on her, a hint of panic rising within.

She couldn’t tell if it was just her imagination, but her big brother’s attitude seemed much colder than before.

No matter what, she could not just sit back and wait for ruin.

She had to turn things around.

...

Serena Summers and Adrian Shaw returned home with their spoils, having collected a lot of herbs on the mountain.

If not for Serena holding him back, he would have ventured even further.

"That’s plenty already, how much do you plan to eat?" Serena said helplessly, looking at his makeshift pouch made from clothes, bulging and nearly unable to contain more herbs.

"As much as my sister-in-law makes, I’ll eat! Besides, I have a bunch of brothers. They practice singing and dancing often, and they’re all covered in injuries."

Upon his reminder, Serena recalled that he used to be the leader of a boy group.

However, the group later disbanded according to the company’s decisions.

Adrian was the most successful member from their group. The others either stayed lukewarm in their careers or were absolutely ruined by smear campaigns from rivals.

Serena had heard about these matters from her assistant, Frank Lane, before. She had issued instructions to sort things out properly.

It seemed the subordinates hadn’t taken it seriously.
