Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Wife Sings, Husband Follows, What’s the Problem?
Soon, rustling sounds came from the wardrobe.
Lucas Shaw walked out, his extraordinary demeanor barely hidden even in the Flavor Pavilion’s uniform.
He stood in front of Edward Selwyn, his lips slightly curling into a shallow smile, "Senior Brother."
Edward scowled incredulously at the unabashed man before him, "What did you call me?"
"Senior Brother, what’s wrong?" Lucas’s expression was languid, his tone slightly weary.
Looking at that overly brazen smiling face, Edward felt a surge of anger, "Senior Brother is who you call? Who is your Senior Brother? Know your place!"
However, Lucas didn’t seem to find anything wrong with it and even carried a hint of pride in his voice, "You are my wife’s senior brother, so naturally, you are my senior brother as well. Isn’t it the principle of ’a wife sings, the husband follows’? What’s the issue?"
Edward: "..."
He had never seen someone so shamelessly brazen before!
Today was truly an eye-opener.
"Lucas Shaw, what did you promise me? You said you wouldn’t see her until she gets better."
"I only promised you that I wouldn’t take her away from here until she gets better; anything else, I didn’t say," Lucas firmly held onto Serena Summers’ delicate hand, giving her a reassuring look.
Serena had been worried earlier that Lucas wouldn’t be able to handle Edward, but unexpectedly, neither of them backed down, each holding their ground.
Especially Lucas, with his shameless demeanor which infuriated Edward, yet he himself remained nonchalant.
Looking at their uncompromising stand, Serena helplessly rubbed her forehead, stretching out her tender little hand to gently tug on Lucas’s sleeve, whispering, "You should go back first, I’m scared when my senior brother gets angry."
"Don’t be afraid, your husband is here to protect you," Lucas held Serena’s tender, boneless hand, gently pinching it without showing any urgency.
Edward took a deep breath; his lips slowly shaping into a cold smile while his fists creaked, "Step outside, I have words for you."
"Perfect, I have something to say to my dear uncle as well," Lucas slowly released Serena’s hand.
Edward paused in his steps, hearing the term "dear uncle," his temples visibly twitching.
"Husband..." Serena worriedly grasped Lucas’s clothes, looking up at him.
Those watery eyes were full of him.
Lucas’s heart softened instantly, he reached out to stroke Serena’s hair, "Be good, I’ll be back soon, don’t worry."
He followed Edward into the study, and the moment the door closed, a sudden punch flew towards him.
He raised his eyebrow and didn’t evade, just stood there.
The punch landed fiercely on his face, shifting it askew, illustrating the sheer force Edward exerted.
Edward withdrew his fist, slowly furrowing his brow, "Why didn’t you fight back?"
"I know why you hit me. I understand how important Serena is to you. So, it’s only right that you hit me."
Stealing someone’s precious ’baby’ for over a decade, it’s only right to endure a beating.
Lucas coughed lightly, wiping the blood seeping from the corner of his lips, his dark, deep eyes brimming with resolve, "I won’t let Serena suffer the slightest grievance ever again, I promise."
"Your promise, I can’t trust."
Edward sneered, stepping back to the desk to pick up a document, and handed it to Lucas, "Verbal promises are easy when everyone has a mouth to speak. Though this document holds no legal effect, if you ever violate any clause within it, I won’t hesitate to take Serena away, and you’ll never see her again in your lifetime."
"Of course..."
Edward Selwyn’s tone shifted, and the corners of his lips slowly drew a cryptic smile, "Mr. Lucas Shaw, if you don’t want to sign, no one is forcing you. But once you sign, if you do anything to hurt Serena, I will make you understand what consequences mean!"
Lucas Shaw’s lips were pursed in silence, he took the document from his hand and glanced at it, then raised his eyebrows slightly.
Although this document does not have legal effect, it shows Edward’s protective stance towards Serena Summers.
It listed the boundaries that Lucas Shaw was forbidden to cross.
For example, no affairs, no ambiguous relationships with other women, and not allowing anyone, especially the Shaw family, to harm Serena, and so forth, totaling about 72 items.
Seeing these, Lucas Shaw suddenly laughed.
Edward, seeing that Lucas had not signed, thought he was reluctant and his expression quickly turned cold, "What? Can’t even meet these demands? What right do you have to claim you love Serena?"
Lucas Shaw chuckled lowly, his voice deep and husky with unclear intent.
He slowly lifted his eyes, his slender and fair fingers pinching the document, his smile at the corners of his lips a bit more wild and reckless.
"Who says I can’t do it? I just think these demands are too few; aren’t these the responsibilities that a husband should naturally adhere to?"
Edward was stunned for a moment, seemingly not expecting such a response from Lucas.
He snorted coldly, casually sitting on a nearby sofa, his long, distinctively jointed fingers tapped lightly on his knee twice, "If you are not satisfied, you can add more yourself and print a new copy."
He was curious to see what tricks Lucas Shaw had up his sleeve.
Lucas Shaw, striding with his long legs towards the desk, said, "President Selwyn, let me use your computer."
"Be my guest."
Lucas Shaw walked to the office chair and sat down, opened the laptop on the desk, his slender fingers rapidly tapping on the keyboard.
In no time, a few more items were added to the document.
"Clause seventy-three, to stay by wife’s side when she is sick."
"Clause seventy-four, to be available whenever the wife needs."
"Clause seventy-five, to always tolerate the wife’s whims and minor tempers without showing impatience."
...
"Clause ninety-nine, whatever wife says is always right."
Edward Selwyn: "..."
Edward looked at the words on the computer screen, then at Lucas Shaw, momentarily at a loss for words.
Setting aside his feelings towards Serena, Edward felt inferior just by this determination alone.
These so-called "house rules" were intended to make Lucas retreat, but not only did he not retreat, he even added over twenty more items based on those rules.
Every word revealed his deep affection for Serena Summers.
Even Edward could not find fault with them for a moment.
He pursed his lips and fell silent, Lucas Shaw laughed lightly, turned the computer screen back, and clicked print.
The printer in the study buzzed, printing out that set of "house rules."
