Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire
Chapter 157: I’m Not a Guest, I’m Her Husband

Chapter 157: Chapter 157: I’m Not a Guest, I’m Her Husband

Edward Selwyn was left with no choice but to make a concession, "Once you’re a little better, I’ll let you leave, alright? You’ve been holding on for so long. When I carried you back, you were barely clinging to life. If it happens again, my heart wouldn’t be able to take it."

Serena Summers knew that Edward had gone soft. She quickly held up three fingers and repeatedly promised, "I will definitely take good care of myself. You have to keep your word, big brother, no take-backs!"

"No take-backs," Edward Selwyn sighed.

One can’t possibly keep their little sister forever.

She’s not as adorable as she was when she was young.

Before leaving, he spoke gravely, "I had someone prepare some medicine for you. Remember to drink it later."

At those words, Serena Summers’ face immediately fell, clearly showing her refusal.

Traditional medicine is the bitterest; she hates drinking it the most.

In the past, every time she needed to take her medicine, she’d find a place to hide, making everyone unable to find her.

Her senior brothers would follow her with bowls in their hands, earnestly persuading.

Such scenes are truly Serena Summers’ life-long trauma.

Just the thought of it would make her hairs stand on end.

Seeing her face filled with resistance, Edward Selwyn chuckled, his tone still serious, "If you refuse to drink it, then don’t think about going back. I can afford to take care of you, so just stay at home properly."

Serena Summers frowned and groaned in response, ultimately conceding under Edward’s tyranny.

Edward Selwyn left satisfied, but his good mood did not last long when he encountered someone at the door he didn’t wish to see.

"Why are you here?"

Edward’s expression instantly darkened as he looked sharply at the man before him with a pair of cold and piercing eyes.

Lucas Shaw pressed his lips together and said, "I came to see Serena. I know she’s awake now."

"So what?" Edward stood with one hand in his pocket, a perfectly tailored suit accentuating his stature, his presence not at all inferior to Lucas Shaw’s.

Not willing to show weakness, Lucas Shaw’s brow tightened as he took two steps closer to Edward and said coldly, "I want to see Serena."

"She is weak right now and not fit to receive visitors."

"I am not a visitor; I am her husband."

"What kind of husband? If I don’t agree, this marriage of yours will not stand."

Edward’s tone was arrogant, sparing no concern for feelings.

Lucas Shaw was taken aback and then chuckled lightly.

Despite not having slept for several days, Lucas Shaw didn’t show any sign of disarray, and a sharp glint flickered in his deep and dark eyes.

He stared at Edward and said emphatically, "My marriage to Serena is protected by law. What? Does President Selwyn intend to break us apart?"

Edward clenched his teeth inwardly, cursing to himself; he hadn’t expected Lucas Shaw to be harder to deal with than he had imagined.

"A marriage can be made and unmade. During these two months, being married to you, Serena endured all kinds of humiliations at the Shaw family. What right do you have to be her husband?"

Edward’s words pierced sharply into Lucas Shaw’s heart like a pointed needle.

His hands at his sides clenched tightly into fists, veins bulging on the back of his hands.

He had no grounds to refute; during those two months at the Shaw Family, Serena Summers indeed suffered every kind of humiliation.

He always said he would protect Serena, but there were times he couldn’t be there for her.

Like when Serena was pushed into the water at Old Master Lawrence’s banquet, and he wasn’t present.

Even though Elena Ryan and Sylvia Lane, the prime culprits, had been driven out of the Shaw Family by him, some damages once done cannot be undone.

He could only do his utmost to make amends.

And so, the always proud Lucas Shaw, for the first time, bowed his head in front of others.

"I was wrong in this matter, and I promise it won’t happen again."

From now on, he would never give anyone the opportunity to hurt Serena Summers again.

No matter who it is, they cannot.

"How do I know you’re telling the truth? What if you take Serena home and she ends up mistreated?" Edward Selwyn sneered coldly, disdain filling his eyes.

"If I say I can do it, then I can do it," Lucas Shaw spoke with determined tone.

Lucas Shaw’s sincerity slightly softened Edward Selwyn’s stance, and, with a snort, he glanced at his watch, "I’ve heard you. You can leave now."

Lucas Shaw squinted his eyes in confusion, a flicker of bewilderment shining within them.

"I don’t trust the Shaw family’s medical skills. When Serena’s health is fully recovered, if she wants to go back, I will naturally send her back, but until then, I won’t let her leave with you."

The implication was clear – you may leave now.

Although Edward Selwyn greatly admired Lucas Shaw’s business acumen and intelligence, he became overly sensitive whenever it involved Serena Summers, so at this moment, the more he looked at Lucas Shaw, the more unpleasant he found him.

Lucas Shaw was helpless but could only compromise.

Although he missed Serena dearly, her health was the most important thing right now. As long as she could recover, everything else could be discussed.

Looking at Edward Selwyn’s vigilant eyes, Lucas Shaw helplessly said, "Just wait a bit longer, Flavor Pavilion’s staff will arrive soon."

"Flavor Pavilion?" Edward Selwyn raised an eyebrow.

As soon as he finished speaking, a business van slowly stopped in front of the two men.

Five or six people dressed in Flavor Pavilion’s unique staff uniform got out of the car, each carrying a food box in their hands.

Lucas Shaw waved at them, and they immediately approached and respectfully greeted the two men.

"Good morning, Second Master. Good morning, President Selwyn."

Edward Selwyn looked them up and down, finally resting his gaze on those food boxes.

Flavor Pavilion’s special food boxes were made of fine pear wood, carefully carved with intricate patterns that exuded elegance and an antique charm, each also featuring the unique logo of Flavor Pavilion.

This was something other stores couldn’t replicate.

Flavor Pavilion is a dining brand under the Shaw Group, or more precisely, founded personally by Lucas Shaw.

Employing the most renowned chefs, their dishes were unsurpassed, and for many, a symbol of wealth and status.

In other words, even the wealthy couldn’t afford to eat there two days in a row.

But Lucas Shaw had arranged for Flavor Pavilion to deliver meals specifically for Serena Summers.

"All these dishes have been carefully selected by me, they are all Serena’s favorites. I don’t need to come in, but I hope you won’t stop me from treating her well."

With everything he said leaving no room for argument, Edward Selwyn had no reason to refuse and thus nodded in agreement.

When Serena Summers woke up, she was surprised to find that the group from last night had come again.

They were still carrying food boxes, but the dishes inside were of a new variety.

Still her favorite dishes, it was obvious who was behind it.

After a night of adjustment, her physical condition had improved a lot compared to last night.

She got out of bed, slipped on a pair of soft, pink bunny slippers, and sat down in front of the sofa. "Just set the things down."

Following her instructions, the group took out the dishes from the boxes, arranged them one by one on the coffee table, then stepped back and stood side by side in front of Serena.
