Chapter 112: Chapter 112 I Have Never Acknowledged Lucas Shaw as My Son
"Dad, why so sudden? What are you going to do?" Elena Ryan put down her chopsticks with a tight frown.
Everyone at the dining table turned to look at Master Shaw.
Master Shaw explained in a deep voice, "An old friend invited me to spend a few days and talk about business on the way."
Even though Master Shaw had retired, he would still occasionally handle company affairs.
He had struggled in the world of business for many years and had far more connections than the younger generation like Lucas Shaw.
The person he was meeting was a business tycoon from Country G.
If the two companies could join forces, Shaw Group would definitely reach a new level.
"Why don’t you let the younger ones handle these things? Why do you need to make the trip yourself?" Elena Ryan disagreed.
"Relationships need to be maintained. If I just send a junior in response to his sincere invitation, it would be too rude." Master Shaw slowly shook his head, very determined in his stance.
Elena Ryan coldly glanced at Lucas Shaw with a meaningful look, "If you just leave like this, won’t there be no place for me in this house anymore?"
"Mom! What nonsense are you talking about!" Liam Shaw scolded coldly, stopping Elena Ryan from continuing.
"Did I say something wrong? This house is controlled by an ungrateful wretch, how can we have any good days ahead!" Elena Ryan’s neck stiffened, eyes filled with anger.
"He is your own son, not an ungrateful wretch!" Liam Shaw slammed his chopsticks onto the table, his eyes full of rage.
Elena Ryan was startled by his action and defensively whispered, "I was just talking, why are you getting so angry? Besides, I have never acknowledged Lucas Shaw as my son!"
In Elena Ryan’s heart, Lucas Shaw had always been her stain.
Every time she mentioned him, Elena Ryan couldn’t control her emotions.
"He is the child you carried for ten months, if not yours then whose? If you continue like this, I will have Mr. Ryan take you back." Master Shaw’s face grew stern.
Mr. Ryan - Old Master Ryan was indeed Elena Ryan’s birth father.
At the mention of his name, Elena Ryan became flustered.
She guiltily lowered her eyes, the light in them flickering.
Lucas Shaw gave her a cold glance; his deep, dark eyes devoid of ripples.
Just one look sent a chill through Elena Ryan.
She shrank her shoulders in fright and did not speak again.
Lucas Shaw mocked by curling the corner of his lips.
Elena Ryan should be thankful; she is his mother.
Master Shaw scolded in a deep voice, "If you don’t want to live a good life, then get lost early. I know you are obsessed about what happened in the past, but that does not give you a reason to hurt and resent Lucas."
What happened in the past was a thorn in Elena Ryan’s heart.
Over the years, that thorn has pierced deeper and deeper.
With time, the resentment not only failed to fade but grew more intense.
Master Shaw looked at Elena Ryan, who was silent with downcast eyes, and couldn’t help but sigh in his heart.
So much time had passed; he had thought Elena Ryan would gradually come out of it.
But he had not expected...
"Liam, contact the psychologist from before and have him come to see your mother," Master Shaw ordered with a stern face.
Liam Shaw’s expression turned somewhat ugly, but he nodded nonetheless.
Throughout the entire conversation, Serena Summers had remained silent.
Hiding her hand under the dining table, she gently tugged at Lucas Shaw’s sleeve.
Lucas Shaw noticed her subtle action and looked towards her.
Serena Summers smiled reassuringly at him.
Such a scene today wasn’t the first, and certainly, it wouldn’t be the last.
What Serena Summers could do was to give Lucas Shaw enough comfort, letting him know he was not alone in his battle.
Lucas Shaw pulled the corner of his lips to signal he was alright.
Such matters had been repeated countless times.
From his initial despair to gradually becoming numb, he had now reached the point where he could remain expressionless and indifferent.
Dinner ended unhappily.
After dinner, Master Shaw called Lucas Shaw and Serena Summers into his study.
"Serena, my mother is just like that, please don’t take it to heart. She is ill and actually in deep pain," said Master Shaw.
"Grandpa, are you saying she has a psychological illness?" Serena Summers asked curiously.
Master Shaw nodded solemnly, "Which normal person would deny their own biological child? She’s just too obsessed with the past."
"The past is not my place as a younger relative to comment on, but I will not turn a blind eye to her repeatedly humiliating my husband," Serena Summers said firmly as she took hold of Lucas Shaw’s hand.
Lucas Shaw was stunned, then lowered his gaze to their clasped hands.
Serena Summers continued, "I understand that one shouldn’t preach goodness to others without having experienced their pain, but the one suffering is not only her; how innocent is my husband?"
Master Shaw watched Serena Summers, and couldn’t help but burst into hearty laughter.
"Good! Good! Good!"
He said the word ’good’ three times, looking at Serena Summers with utmost gratification in his eyes.
"Serena, Lucas marrying you truly is the best decision he’s made in his life."
Serena Summers laughed and shook her head, "Meeting him is also the biggest fortune of my life."
At the words, a warm current passed through Lucas Shaw’s heart.
"By the way, Serena, do you still have some of that Calming Tea you gave me last time? I’ve finished it and wanted to bring some for an old friend," Master Shaw asked with an expectant look.
The effects of that Calming Tea were simply better than any brand he’d ever tried.
Master Shaw was getting on in years and often had restless sleep.
He had tried countless methods over the years, but to no avail.
Ever since he had started drinking Serena Summer’s Calming Tea, he couldn’t say enough about how soundly he’d been sleeping this month.
Serena Summers was truly the apprentice of The Divine Healer, Victor Bennett.
Serena Summers: "I didn’t bring much, and it’s all been used up. If you need it, I can make some more for you tonight."
"Then I’ll trouble you."
"It’s no trouble."
Lucas Shaw’s grandfather is also her grandfather.
Looking at the girl’s naïvely charming face, Master Shaw felt a mix of emotions in his heart.
It seems he was reaping the benefits of his grandson’s good fortune.
"Serena, you’ve seen your mother’s condition. I’m worried that she might do something extreme during my absence, so please take good care of Lucas," said Master Shaw with concern.
Master Shaw’s worry was not without reason.
Given Elena Ryan’s level of paranoia, there was nothing she was incapable of.
"Sure, I will definitely take good care of him," Serena Summers assured with a determined tone.
The next morning, Master Shaw boarded his private plane to Country G.
Serena Summers, who usually loved to sleep in, unusually got up early that day.
Lucas Shaw leaned against the headboard, his deep eyes slightly cloudy from just waking up.
He looked at Serena Summers in surprise, "Why are you up so early today?"
"Don’t we need to see Grandpa off?"
Serena Summers buried her face deeply into the man’s broad chest, her mood a little low.
