Forced to Marry the Sickly Billionaire -
Chapter 110: Marrying Him Was My Own Choice
Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Marrying Him Was My Own Choice
Clara Shaw rushed to the counter’s computer, intently examining the information displayed on the screen.
When she clearly saw Serena Summers’ name, Clara Shaw became somewhat dazed.
"This can’t be! How could this happen?"
The three girls looked at each other, also walking up to the counter.
Then, they all showed expressions identical to Clara Shaw’s.
"Can we check out now?"
Serena Summers ignored them, placing her selected items on the counter.
Charlotte Summers let out a snort, "Some people are really blind, with brains eaten by dogs."
Charlotte Summers felt that today was quite an eye-opener.
She had always thought that children raised by wealthy and prominent families like the Shaw Family would have impeccable manners.
But it seems that was not entirely the case.
Watching the departing figures of Serena Summers and Charlotte Summers, Clara Shaw’s eyes filled with bitterness.
After leaving the boutique, Charlotte Summers couldn’t help but complain: "With your background, why does Clara Shaw keep saying you’re from the countryside?"
If the Shaw Family knew about Serena Summers’ connection to Horizon Group, they would never dare to be so presumptuous.
"It’s a rumor that came from the Summers Family, I never refuted it, and they just took it as the truth," Serena Summers said with a resigned smile.
"No wonder, the Summers Family was willing to unhesitatingly use you as a pawn to marry you off to Lucas Shaw for good luck... Sorry, did I say something wrong?" Charlotte Summers awkwardly touched her nose, her eyes full of apology.
"It’s okay, you’re stating the facts. My biological parents sold me to the Shaw Family, giving everything that was rightfully mine to their adopted daughter."
How ironic.
Serena Summers thought, if the Summers Family had known from the start that she was Victor Bennett’s young disciple and Edward Selwyn’s junior fellow from Horizon Group, they probably wouldn’t have sold her off; instead, they would’ve revered her like an ancestor.
But that kind of affection was not what Serena Summers wanted.
Forced family affection, in Serena Summers’ eyes, was incredibly cheap.
"You’re right, it’s best not to tell them, to avoid them leeching off you. Even though there are annoying people in the Shaw Family, your senior and Mr. Lucas Shaw have been quite good to you," Charlotte Summers said softly with a sigh.
Serena Summers nodded with a smile.
"I should head home. Are you going to continue shopping?" Charlotte Summers asked.
"I still have some things to take care of, you go ahead."
Serena Summers had an appointment with Edward Selwyn for lunch today.
It was time for her to keep the appointment.
"Then I’ll see you in the lab on Monday." Charlotte Summers waved to Serena Summers and then took a taxi away.
Once Charlotte Summers’ car was out of sight, Serena Summers walked toward a café not far from the mall.
Upon entering the coffee shop, Serena Summers saw that Edward Selwyn was already waiting there,
Edward Selwyn had handsome features, and a charcoal black suit that outlined his tall and straight figure. From a distance, he exuded an intimidating presence, making people hesitant to approach.
Many girls around were secretly taking pictures.
Yet Edward Selwyn maintained a detached demeanor, focusing intently on the computer screen in front of him.
His slender fingers rapidly tapped on the keyboard.
He exuded a forbidding coolness and an indescribable mature charm.
"Big Senior Brother!"
Serena Summers hurriedly walked over to Edward Selwyn and sat down, her tone filled with excitement.
A few ripples finally appeared in the man’s deep eyes.
He slowly looked up, a soft light flashing through his sharp gaze.
"Serena, you’ve come."
"Senior Brother."
Serena glanced carefully at Edward Selwyn, and seeing his usual countenance, she instantly felt relieved.
Edward Selwyn noticed the changes in Serena’s expression and helplessly tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Serena, now you should explain what has been happening lately."
Serena blinked innocently and said softly, "Senior Brother, didn’t you know it all already?"
Since Edward Selwyn had found her, he must have understood everything she had gone through before.
Edward Selwyn was amused but also frustrated by her rascally demeanor, and he gently tapped on her smooth, full forehead.
"Serena, have I indulged you too much?"
"Senior Brother, you’ve changed. You used to just call me Serena, now it feels so distant. You don’t love me anymore sob sob sob..."
Serena covered her little face, pretending to cry to distract Edward Selwyn.
However, Edward Selwyn wasn’t buying it.
In a cold voice, he said, "Serena, before our master left, he entrusted you to me because he was afraid your innocent nature would be taken advantage of by others. But you left the mountain in silence; don’t you take your senior brother seriously?"
"No, Senior Brother, it was the Summers Family who suddenly found me, saying they were my biological parents. I was just curious about what my real parents were like."
Serena always felt she had been abandoned by her parents.
So, when her biological parents came looking for her, she was happy.
Because her parents hadn’t given up on her.
But later she discovered that it was all a setup.
From the moment they learned she was still alive, the scheme had begun.
Over the years, following Victor Bennett around treating people, Serena had seen a fair share of ungrateful individuals.
But she had never encountered someone as cold and heartless as the Summers Family.
"Now I’ve severed ties with them. The debt of birthing me has been repaid."
Listening to Serena’s calm statement, Edward Selwyn couldn’t help feeling heartache.
Serena was the youngest among them, and the only girl.
Therefore, she had been pampered and doted on by their master and her three senior brothers since she was young.
Aside from being captured for experimental research, she had hardly ever suffered any grievances.
How dare the Summers Family hurt her!
"Senior Brother, I’m sorry, I’ve caused you worry." Serena lowered her lashes, her eyes filled with guilt.
Seeing her pitiful look, Edward Selwyn’s heart softened.
He sighed helplessly and said, "If there’s a next time, I’ll definitely have someone tie you up and bring you back."
Serena’s eyes immediately lit up, "Thank you, Senior Brother. There will absolutely not be a next time! I promise!"
"Now, let’s talk about you and Lucas Shaw. Even if it’s to break ties with the Summers Family, you can’t sacrifice your happiness for the rest of your life." Edward Selwyn’s gaze was heavy as he watched Serena.
Serena shook her head and said, "Marrying him was my own choice. Even without this transaction, I would have married him."
Edward Selwyn looked surprised and advised in a low voice, "Serena, Lucas Shaw is definitely not a kind-hearted person. It’s better for you not to be too involved with him."
Lucas Shaw was certainly not as simple as he appeared on the surface.
"Senior Brother, you can’t talk about him like that! He’s now your sister-in-law’s husband, your own family!"
Hearing Edward Selwyn’s opinion on Lucas Shaw, Serena felt somewhat uncomfortable.
A vein on Edward Selwyn’s forehead throbbed involuntarily, and he sighed helplessly.
He said earnestly, "Serena, you can have any man you want, but Lucas Shaw is not suitable."
