Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Rallying the Troops to Seek Justice
Serena Summers suddenly had a bad premonition.
After a moment of thought, she still pressed to answer the call.
"Hello?"
"Serena, you’ve really grown bold, going down the mountain for so long without telling me."
A familiar voice came through the receiver, causing Serena’s heart to jolt abruptly.
She quickly hung up the phone, her heart still racing as she patted her chest.
It was Edward Selwyn who had called.
It seemed that Edward had already found out about the events following her departure from the mountain.
Serena couldn’t help but pout, surprised that her senior brother had found her contact information in such a short amount of time.
As Serena racked her brain for a strategy, her phone rang again.
Seeing the familiar number, her heart sank.
With trepidation, she hesitated for a moment but eventually pressed to answer.
"Hello, Senior Brother..."
Her voice was sweet and soft, with a hint of coquetry.
Hearing the familiar voice, Edward Selwyn heaved a deep sigh.
"Are you going to confess, or should I do it for you?"
At the Horizon Group’s top-floor presidential office.
Edward Selwyn stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a phone in one hand and a highball glass in the other.
His voice was deep and lazy, with an indescribable magnetic quality.
But to Serena, it sounded almost like a curse.
"Senior Brother, I was wrong. I shouldn’t have slipped away down the mountain..."
"What else?"
"I shouldn’t have gone so long without contacting you."
Serena sounded pitiful, her voice tinged with a sob.
"What else?" Edward’s tone was indifferent, his voice cold.
But Serena understood that Edward was truly angry.
She pouted her lips sadly and quickly thought to herself, "That should be everything, right?"
"Ha! Serena, you’ve really come a long way—being bullied by the Summers Family for so long without coming to me, letting them use you as a business pawn, offering you up to Lucas Shaw as a lucky charm... Did you ever consider me, your senior brother, at all?"
"It’s not a lucky charm; Lucas Shaw and I are married now. We’re a legally protected couple!" Serena clenched her fists tightly and retorted in a low voice.
"Don’t change the subject. Is that what I’m talking about?" Edward’s deep voice carried a touch of indignation.
Serena’s shoulders involuntarily shrank, and she said softly, "Brother, I tried to call you before, but you didn’t answer."
The first moment the Summers Family approached her, Serena had called Edward Selwyn.
She wanted Edward to investigate the Summers Family’s background, as well as the authenticity of that paternity test.
But after several calls with no one answering, she went with the Summers Family and left her phone on the mountain.
Edward was taken aback for a moment and then explained in a low voice, "I was in a very important meeting at the time, so I turned off my phone. After the meeting, I called you back right away, but no one answered."
"Serena, you can come down from the mountain, but why not take your phone with you? Do you know how worried I’ve been about you these past days?"
Ever since he discovered Serena was missing, Edward Selwyn had immediately sent people to look for her, almost turning the whole of Corland upside down.
He never would have expected that today, at the Parker Family’s engagement party, he would see Serena.
And she appeared as Lucas Shaw’s wife.
Serena blinked guiltily, her lips sealed in silence.
"Senior Brother, I didn’t mean to."
"I know you didn’t do it on purpose, but I’ve been really worried about you."
There was a sense of helplessness in Edward’s voice.
Serena bit her lip, unsure of how to explain herself.
Edward continued, "Should I come to find you, or will you come to me?"
"What... what are you going to do?" Serena Summers instantly had a bad premonition.
"Confront and accuse!" Edward Selwyn sneered coldly.
Serena pouted and cooed, "Big brother, I admit I’ve made you worry these past days, but do we really need to meet?"
"Dream on! I’m sending someone to pick you up this weekend!"
Serena’s eyelid twitched violently, and she quickly responded, "No need! I’ll go myself! Let’s meet at the café near your company’s mall."
After hanging up the phone, Serena sat on the sofa and let out a huge sigh of relief.
Just then, the bathroom door suddenly opened.
Lucas Shaw emerged wearing a dark blue robe.
He had a tall and lean figure, and his jet-black hair was dripping with water, with droplets inadvertently sliding down from the tips of his hair into his open robe.
Even the action of drying his hair seemed exceptionally sexy and tantalizing.
Serena’s eyes lit up immediately.
"Husband!"
"Hmm?"
The man’s deep and sexy voice lifted slightly, oozing a seductively magnetic quality.
Serena felt a tremble at the tip of her heart, her face growing slightly warm.
"Nothing, just feeling happy!"
Lucas Shaw sighed helplessly, "Why do you like to act spoiled so much?"
"Do you like it?"
Do you like this side of me?
Serena’s heart swelled with joy, her black gem-like eyes sparkling bright and shiny.
"I like it," Lucas Shaw murmured in response.
He was utterly in love with this side of her.
Lucas Shaw extended his long arm, wrapped it around the girl’s slender and soft waist, and drew her into his embrace.
Their bodies pressed tightly together, leaving almost no gap.
Serena could clearly feel the man’s strong and powerful heartbeat, like a series of drumbeats rhythmically pulsing.
"Did you let off steam tonight?"
Lucas Shaw exerted a bit of strength, lifted her up slightly, and carried her to the bed in a posture of holding a child.
Serena inexplicably felt that this position was a bit shameful; she couldn’t help but blush quietly.
Her heart pounded like thunder, as if she had a lively rabbit jumping in her chest, about to leap out the next second.
"I did," Serena murmured softly, dropping her lashes to hide the shyness in her eyes.
"That’s good. Only I, Lucas Shaw, am allowed to bully my woman."
No one else should even think about it.
Lucas Shaw gently patted Serena’s soft hair.
Serena keenly felt the warmth of his palm and couldn’t help but nuzzle it.
Lucas Shaw watched Serena’s reaction with interest; she resembled a little kitten cuddling up to its owner.
He slowly bent down and placed a gentle kiss on Serena’s smooth and full forehead.
"You’ve never owed the Summers Family anything, so those people have no right to treat you like that. Your constant concessions to them will not make them feel guilty; instead, it will only make them think you’re timid and easy to bully."
It’s human nature to be tough on the weak and soft on the strong.
Only when you become strong enough will the number of bad people around you gradually reduce.
Serena nodded vigorously in agreement.
The Summers Family was truly used to bullying the meek and fearing the tough.
The Summers Family.
Late into the night, the Summers’ house was brightly lit, yet the atmosphere was not as joyful as usual.
The entire villa exuded a strange oppression.
All the servants deliberately lightened their movements, fearing they might accidentally provoke Grace Summers.
