First Legendary Dragon: Starting With The Limitless System -
Chapter 149: Casting Fireball!
[Ding!]
[Congratulations Master for completing the first objective of the 'Fate Unravel II: Unmask the Soul' quest!! (≧◡≦)]
Orion paused in his steps, looking at the system prompt, his face brightened up with a smile. 'Looks like I'm closer to completing the quest now.'
[You did great, Master! That was very kind of you, and I think Seraph will finally start trusting you more and more now! (⁀‿⁀)]
Orion chuckled softly, shaking his head gently. 'Trust is built over time, Lumi. She's had a rough past. But at least I've shown her my intentions clearly. I'm glad I could remove that seal.'
[You could have done that from the start no?
'You do not understand the importance of timing, Lil Lumi.' He laughed to himself, 'It would have seemed weirdly suspicious that I bought a slave and freed her the next day. But now, I have shown her enough goodwill and my personality over time that she won't treat it as badly.'
[(☉。☉)! Definitely, Master! And congrats again on finishing the quest objective! One step closer to unraveling her secret! (≧▽≦)]
'Heh, honestly, I forgot it was a quest until you reminded me.' Orion laughed inwardly. 'Gaining her trust, huh? It felt more like something I had to do morally rather than just completing a quest objective.'
[That's why Master is so special! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ You genuinely care for people, not just for system rewards.]
Orion shook his head, 'I'm not so great, after all, I saved her for the quest. How I treat her after is a different thing.'
Saying that, he glanced thoughtfully towards the dining hall ahead. 'Anyway, enough about that for now. Time to tell Grandma and Grandpa about my progress. I'm sure Grandma especially would love to know about the Fireball spell.'
[Hehe~ Grandma Selene will be so proud! I can't wait to see her reaction!]
He gently pushed open the large wooden double doors of the dining hall. Inside, the warm, inviting scent of freshly prepared breakfast filled his senses. Eldric and Selene sat at their usual seats, their eyes brightening as soon as Orion entered the room.
"Good morning, Grandma, Grandpa," Orion greeted cheerfully, quickly making his way towards his seat.
Selene gave him a warm smile, pouring a cup of fragrant tea and setting it neatly before him. "Good morning, dear. You seem quite cheerful today. Did something good happen already?"
Orion's eyes sparkled slightly in excitement as he nodded, "Yes! Last night, I successfully learned and engraved my first spell into my Sea of Consciousness!"
Selene's eyes widened slightly with surprise before pride filled them, "Oh? That's wonderful news, my dear. Which spell did you learn?"
Orion sheepishly smiled, "Hehe, it's nothing great, only Fireball."
She gently smiled, "Learning your first spell is always a major milestone. I'm truly impressed with how quickly you've managed this."
Eldric chuckled heartily, placing his fork down gently as he turned toward Orion. "Indeed! Already forming your first spell after just creating your affinity rune—not even the royal mages learn at such speed."
Orion smiled lightly, feeling a gentle flush of pride at their praise. "Honestly, it was thanks to the detailed explanations in the Apprentice Spellbook that I got, Grandma. It made things clearer and easier to grasp."
Selene's eyes twinkled softly as she nodded knowingly. "Understanding is crucial when dealing with spell formation. Though Fireball might be basic, mastering it will significantly boost your control and efficiency with mana and fire manipulation. Have you tried using it yet?"
Orion shook his head lightly, taking a sip of the fragrant tea. "No, I finished engraving it very late last night. I was planning to test it out today."
Selene's face lit up immediately, her voice carrying a hint of excitement and anticipation. "Perfect! After breakfast, let's head to the training grounds together. I want to witness your first casting myself. It'll also allow me to offer some immediate feedback if necessary."
Orion's eyes sparkled eagerly as he nodded enthusiastically. "I'd love that, Grandma! It would be reassuring having your guidance during my first try."
Eldric chuckled again, his deep laughter resonating warmly throughout the room. "Ah, Selene, you're always eager when it comes to your precious grandson's progress. But indeed, this is something worth seeing. Count me in."
Orion smiled brightly, heart swelling with gratitude and excitement looking at their enthusiasm for him.
Breakfast continued pleasantly, filled with cheerful conversation, gentle teasing from Eldric, and patient advice from Selene about general precautions when casting spells for the first time.
Once breakfast was finished, the trio rose from their seats and walked leisurely out towards the open training grounds on the right side of the mansion.
The morning air outside was crisp and refreshing, gentle sunlight illuminating the lush greenery surrounding the estate. Wide, meticulously maintained grasslands stretched out before them, bordered neatly by tall, dense hedges.
As they reached the training grounds outside the main building, Orion positioned himself calmly in the center, breathing deeply to steady his nerves. Selene and Eldric stood at a safe distance, observing attentively with warm, encouraging smiles.
"Take your time, Orion," Selene gently advised, her voice calming and supportive. "Visualize clearly, feel the mana precisely, and maintain full control throughout. Don't forget the chant."
Orion nodded firmly, extending his right hand forward, palm facing outward. Closing his eyes briefly, he mentally accessed his Sea of Consciousness, clearly sensing the freshly formed Fireball spell nestled securely beside his Fire Affinity Rune.
'Hmm, I don't think I need the chant… for some reason.' Slightly frowning, he thought before slowly guiding his internal mana along the carefully memorized circuits, initiating the rune sequence.
[Fire] glowed brightly within his Sea of Consciousness, quickly followed by [Ignite] and [Burst], the mana smoothly channeling through each circuit and inscription. Soon, the entire Spell Circle glowed with an azure-red glow.
Orion's eyes snapped open, his gaze sharp and focused. "Fireball!"
Instantly, a glowing sphere of vibrant, fiery mana rapidly condensed and materialized in front of his outstretched palm. It hovered gently, its bright orange-red flames pulsating rhythmically, controlled perfectly by the inscriptions and circuits he'd carefully constructed.
With a calm exhale, Orion focused forward, targeting a wooden training dummy positioned twenty meters away. He pushed slightly with his palm, sending the fireball hurtling forward with remarkable speed and accuracy using his mana.
The sphere traveled smoothly, striking directly at the dummy's torso. On impact, the fireball exploded neatly, flames expanding exactly within the prescribed radius of 1.5 meters, fully engulfing the wooden dummy in a controlled burst of fire.
Both Selene and Eldric clapped immediately, their faces lit with surprise, pride, and satisfaction.
"Casting a spell without a chant on your first try. Damn right." Eldric laughed out loud while striding forward.
Selene's eyes remained bright, filled with pride and admiration as she stepped closer to Orion, gently patting his shoulder. "To think you managed a chantless cast on your very first attempt… Your Affinity Rune must have solidified your mana control far beyond what I imagined. Most impressive, my dear."
Eldric chuckled heartily, shaking his head in disbelief and amusement. "Impressive indeed! Chantless magic right from the start. You're making even seasoned mages look foolish, lad!"
Orion rubbed the back of his head with slight embarrassment at the ceaseless praises of the two of them, a small hint of pride also swelled in his chest.
