Financial Emperor: After I Rose From the Dead -
Chapter 32: Mrs. Manager?!
Chapter 32: Mrs. Manager?!
Stepping out of the car, Rino took a slow breath, keeping his eyes on the Nova Nexus Tower. The building was indeed towering, looking more like a successful business structure that shouldn’t be handed over to the government, or any other indigene apart from the Carter family.
Good enough, Mrs. Carter had only signed the documents without getting the necessary credentials concerning the property from him. Now that he was still in possession, he needed to perform all his actions as quickly as he could.
He returned his gaze to the building which was bare from a distance. There was no fence or extra walls that hid it behind. Anyone passing could clearly see its tall structure, and it stood like an open book, inviting stares and curiosity.
The only difference that would be identified is during entrance time. Not all who had admired the building, or were curious about it could enter.
Rino closed his car doors, pressing the lock button by the side of the door handle and took steps closer, only to be hit hard by the reality of the situation.
A thick, bright yellow government tape had been tied around the tower. It was one of those warning ropes often seen around buildings that were either under investigation or completely shut down.
He moved closer more to find layers of posters and angry stickers that had been plastered all over the place, on the glass walls and even the front door.
If not due to the intervention of the government, and by placing security agents around the area, Rino guessed his first companions he could have met were mobs.
He furrowed his brow and stepped nearer to clearly see what was written on each poster and sticker.
The people had used it to gush out their anger, their frustration, all their cries.
Rino almost felt delusional, but not before reading what was written on each poster.
"Pay us our hard-earned sweat!" one read.
"My loan keeps piling and adding up all because of you motherfuckers!" another followed.
"What did I do wrong for working diligently for your company all these years?" a third complaint yelled through bold red ink.
It pained Rino, but all he could do at the moment was stand and keep letting the hate and anger speeches from the posters haunt him.
"My kids are starving while you sleep in wealth!"
"You built towers on our sacrifices. Now it’s crumbling. Failures!"
"Return our pensions! We earned them!"
"We were loyal. Yet, you turned your backs on us
Each word that Rino read rang in his mind as if they were making their yells directly at him. As if he was present to experience how angry they are.
"We gave our time, some of us our youth. What did we get in return?"
"Rats don’t leave the sinking ship, but you jumped first!"
"Don’t forget the faces behind these walls!"
That was the much Rino could bear. He clung to his head as the yells seemed to check his mentality.
He wouldn’t deny it. This was Carter’s family property, so, they should take the blame.
No, he should take the blame. He is the owner of the company now. He didn’t want to think of Mrs. Carter as the owner of the company since he planned to retrieve the company back, thereby nullifying the document they had signed.
But, he couldn’t help but wonder what had led to the fall of this wonderful company. Maybe the management was put into the hands of the wrong people, he thought.
Either way, thinking all the way wasn’t going to be of help. The people who worked here had suffered. And the pain from their sufferings, their agonies was right in his face.
Just then, he noticed the glass door that served as the entrance to the building was slightly ajar. From the reflection, he could see someone was inside.
Without much ado, he moved forward and bent under the warning tape, ready to walk into the building when the reflection he had seen inside appeared to become a security man. From the side, another security man appeared, both the uniformed men blocked his way.
They sensed the young man standing before them was an important person in the society, judging from his way of dressing. He would probably be one of these rich investors from private companies who were making their bids on the company.
But, it was still dangerous to jump to conclusions without being sure of the facts. There can be possibilities.
"Sir, this building is under restriction," one of them said with a firm voice, not sounding aggressive.
Rino’s mind was filled at entering the building. So, he didn’t even take any longer seconds before he reached into his suit’s top pocket and pulled out a small emblem that served as the Carter Family’s insignia.
"I am the owner of the company," he said, not raising his voice but keeping his gaze on the interior of the tower.
The two guards exchanged knowing glances at each other as they had recognized the symbol. As they guessed, Rino wasn’t just any figure from what they were witnessing. Without any other word, they moved aside and let him through.
As Rino stepped into the lobby of the basement of the tower, the system chimed in his head.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
«↓ 1¡3 Goals Achieved ↑»
«↓ Visit Nova Nexus Tower | Completed ↑»
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rino ignored the notification. Right now, he wasn’t thinking about digital rewards or completion points, whatsoever. He had to see the real mess up close.
He had limited time to try and fix the issues at hand before they escalated further, into the company permanently getting banned by the government.
Instead of taking the elevator, he moved toward the central spiraling stairway that led to other working rooms in the building. He wanted to observe the entire building. Everywhere was already deserted, left for the presence of the mechanical systems and equipment they used for working.
Good enough, the stairs were auto-moving, more like airport escalators, so even though he wasn’t rushing, he was gliding upwards with ease.
Each floor he passed revealed its own appurtenances to Rino as he soared high up.
The first floor he passed had digital directories with faded screens. Some were still blinking but had no signal. Light-up signs that once displayed project updates or motivational quotes now flickered or showed error messages.
He continued observing the surroundings.
He passed an old touchpad access door that looked completely dead. Another hallway had digital nameplates that were stuck on loading.
Everywhere he turned, everything he saw, made his realization clear to him. Nova Nexus Tower was a modern masterpiece founded by his late father, which was now left to rot. All because they had fallen into the wrong hands.
There had been technology without maintenance. Machines without the right operators. Even, desks without people behind them.
It was a good thing that security agents had informed him that the manager was presently in the building, that was where he headed to—the Manager’s office.
After about 25 minutes, Rino arrived at the topmost floor. That was where the Manager’s office was located. The guards had let him know the manager was the only person left around.
Walking to the door, he opened it carefully without knocking.
The occupant of the office hadn’t even noticed his presence, so, he first of all took in the appearance of the office.
It was indeed spacious and well-luxuriated for a Manager. As his eyes hovered around the space, they fell on the Manager’s table with the glass plaque placed on it where the Manager’s name was carved.
Beside the plaque was a bottle and glass of wine, all shocking to Rino.
And that was when he saw what made him drop cold in his tracks. His jaw clenched, and then with a deep voice heavy with disappointment, he yelled.
"Is this what the failure of a Manager should be doing?!"
His eyes narrowed, and he thundered again.
"Mrs. Manager?!"
