Financial Emperor: After I Rose From the Dead
Chapter 29: A Chance Or A Trap [2]

Chapter 29: A Chance Or A Trap [2]

Rino stared at the paper in his hands, his eyes intently traveling over every word that was in the paper. He went to every legal term that was used and made sure to understand every strategically placed clause.

The silence in the room prolonged as Mrs. Carter continued to watch him, her fingers neatly folded on her lap.

She wondered what it was Rino was trying to figure out from the document she had given him. What will he understand from reading through every word in it?

Every other of his mates would have seen the opportunity placed in it and jumped in to accept whatever was contained in the document, immediately.

Rino flipped to the back of the document as if to make sure there was no advancement at the back, then returned to the filled page.

The document Mrs. Carter had handed him was a contract, written clean, concise, and at the same time deadly for those who won’t understand what was contained in it.

TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP: NOVA NEXUS TOWER

Amount: $300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand US Dollars)

Buyer: Mrs. Rose Carter

Seller: Rino Carter

That was the beginning title of the contract which Rino had just gone through.

His lips curled into a subtle smile. Not out of the impression of what was its content, but because everything was playing as interesting as he had expected it to be.

Rose noticed his bright expression and leaned forward slightly, mistaking his reaction for excitement of the benefits that were contained in the contract.

"This smile," she said warmly, her chin spreading into a smile. "I knew you would be smart enough to recognize opportunity when it knocks."

Rino said nothing. His fingers kept drumming lightly on the paper.

"Three hundred thousand grand, Rino. A support coming from your family. And most importantly, a way out from a property that’s becoming nothing but a sinkhole," Rose added.

Rino reclined on the couch he sat on, with his face down. After a brief while, he raised his face and asked.

"Why are you suddenly interested in offering help?"

"Why did you suddenly wish to get yourself involved in a property belonging to the so-called bastard of the family?"

"Tell me what this is all about," Rino said.

Rose leaned in further.

"Being the bastard of the family doesn’t mean nothing good could come from whatever you possess," she said, lowering her tone into a confidential whisper.

"I doubt what you said is the answer to the question," Rino said.

Rose’s face changed into a tiring look. With the same whispering tone, she began to state what she called her reasons.

"The Federal Government of Esme has planned to put Nova Nexus Tower on their blacklist. What am I saying? They already have them on their blacklist," she said.

"And, they are planning to shut it down permanently due to the unpaid salaries, taxes and even, the employee complaints that have consistently reached their office there at the headquarters," she sighed and shook her head.

"I’m doing this for your own good, Rino," she said calmly. "It’s only a matter of days. In a few days, you will lose everything, and worse, not only your name but the Carter Family name will be dragged in the dirt."

Rino’s eyes still hadn’t left the document. He still paid attention to every detail as well as listened to what Mrs. Carter said.

"That is going to taint our name, Rino. And I can’t sit and watch it happen when I am capable, you know?" She continued. "I can stop that from happening. I will clear the debts. Pay the workers. Wipe the slates clean. And necessarily, save the company."

Pausing for a while and still not getting any response from Rino, she added, smiling victoriously. "It’s going to be a win for both of us."

"Both of us," Rino smiled wryly.

Now that he thought about it, he will start making plans to pay a visit to Nova Nexus Tower.

Whether it was Dormant, slow to rise or broken, it was still his.

Then, the system’s chime reminded him that it hadn’t forgotten him.

Now it has been made one of his goals, he must visit the place.

He will find out what is it that’s going to be special about Medar, sooner rather than later.

His smirk widened a little.

Nova Nexus Tower, one of the family sloth properties is now valued by them.

Not only the Tower, but even the Resort, but soon, they will come for the remaining property.

And, what of the hidden property, now that he remembered, he was going to put that on his agenda but not in the meantime.

He finally looked up at Rose, whose expression had faltered as a result of his prolonged silence.

"So, after calling my inherited properties sloths, you have suddenly taken an interest in it?" Rino asked, as a matter of fact.

Mrs. Carter’s eyes twitched.

"I’m only trying my possible best to see that I protect the family’s reputation. Letting the building rot away in silence helps no one, and I figured this would save you the embarrassment of watching something you inherited crumble into nothing," she replied.

"Besides, it was my son, Josh who had called your properties sloths," she added.

Rino nodded slowly, the smirk still playing on his lips.

He picked up the pen she had placed beside the folder.

Rose leaned forward eagerly.

But just as he moved the pen toward the paper—

BANG!

The door flew open and Ribby, Rino’s personal servant burst in.

"Sorry ma," he hastily apologized to Mrs. Carter who watched him furiously.

"Young master!" Ribby panted, waving his phone. "You just got a call—from Zaria Lin."

The name dropped like a grenade in the room.

Rino, however, smiled thinking there was a problem that had caused Ribby to badge into the room the way he did.

Rose blinked. Her smile faltered. "Zaria Lin?" she repeated, clearly caught off guard.

Rino raised his eyes slowly to meet hers. But he said nothing.

Instead, he placed the pen back down exactly where he picked it from.

"Excuse me," he said coolly and stood up.

He walked calmly to a corner of the room, away from their sight, answering the call as he went. As the phone touched his ear, he could feel Rose’s gaze burrowing into his back like daggers.

If Rose really knew who Zaria Lin was, then—

What should it entail?
