"All right! If you can find a spy without leaving this place, I’ll award you first-class merit and promote you to ace soldier," Quan Shaoqing declared, decisively closing his eyes, refusing to look at Gu Xiaoxi any longer. If he continued to look at her, he might lose his mind.

Gu Xiaoxi blinked and, after watching for a while, was transfixed. She reached out hesitantly and gently touched his handsome features.

Suddenly, Quan Shaoqing’s eyelashes fluttered, startling her into retracting her hand immediately.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Gu Xiaoxi ran to open the door and saw Yeh Bai standing there.

"Do you want to come in and check on him?" Gu Xiaoxi asked.

"I came to remind you to watch his temperature. If he has a fever, be sure to call me!" Yeh Bai said.

"Got it!"

She closed the door again.

Gu Xiaoxi didn’t dare to be careless. While keeping an eye on the IV, she would check his temperature every ten minutes.

Two hours later, Quan Shaoqing indeed had a high fever.

Gu Xiaoxi hurried to call Yeh Bai.

Gu Xiaoxi stayed with him all night. When the day broke, and she saw his temperature finally drop, she collapsed exhausted on the bed and fell asleep.

She lay beside him, breathing evenly.

As soon as Quan Shaoqing opened his eyes, he saw the little woman by his side, quietly snuggled up to him. The morning light filtered through the window, making her skin appear even more pale and translucent. He turned his face away, took a breath, then gritted his teeth, enduring the pain as he lifted his arm to pull the blanket over her.

When Yeh Bai came in from outside, he saw that Gu Xiaoxi had fallen asleep on Quan Shaoqing’s bed. His gaze deepened as he looked at Quan Shaoqing, and when Quan Shaoqing looked back at him,

"Yes!" Yeh Bai said with a smile, "You are really good to Gu Xiaoxi. Are you really her guardian?"

"Of course!" Quan Shaoqing said expressionlessly, "I’m feeling much better today. Can I get up?"

"No! In order for your injury to heal faster, you must rest for three more days before getting out of bed," Yeh Bai said as he touched Quan Shaoqing’s forehead, satisfied to see it was no longer feverish and his spirits were high.

"You need to eat some porridge. I’ll go make it now," Yeh Bai said as he turned around, not forgetting to kindly offer to Quan Shaoqing, "If the superior officer needs anything else, just command."

Quan Shaoqing looked at Gu Xiaoxi and instructed, "Make her some breakfast too. She probably hasn’t eaten."

Yeh Bai smiled, "Sure! I’ll call her when it’s ready!"

When Gu Xiaoxi woke up, the sky was bright.

She opened her eyes to see the face of the man so close to her and sat up abruptly.

Quan Shaoqing was watching her, and they stared at each other, eyes wide.

Gu Xiaoxi scrambled out of bed hastily, "Sorry, I fell asleep on your bed."

She remembered that Quan Shaoqing seemed not to like her sleeping on his bed.

"Go freshen up and have breakfast. There are new toiletries in the bathroom of my room. I’ll ask Lin Mi to bring you a few sets of clothes later," Quan Shaoqing said gently.

Gu Xiaoxi was taken aback by his tone. The gentleness in Quan Shaoqing’s voice was warm like the sun, melting her heart as she listened. Was this really Quan Shaoqing? Why did she feel like he had suddenly changed? The strange feeling made her heart skip a beat, almost longing for his tenderness.
