Chapter 658: Love Above All Chapter 17 Let’s Talk About it When We Get Home
Quan Shaoqing only felt as if his heart had been lightly scratched by a mischievous cat, both painful and itchy.
The worst part was, his heart suddenly started beating violently, as if countless little deer were jumping inside.
Just when she was about to run out of breath, Quan Shaoqing let go of her.
The man gazed at her lips, now a bit swollen from the bite, and finally touched her soft cheek satisfactorily, "Looks like you’re much better; my care wasn’t in vain. You’re even now."
With that, he took his coat from the rack and put it on.
It looked like he was leaving.
Gu Xiaoxi gasped for air, having been taken advantage of; she should be angry, but for some reason, she couldn’t muster any anger at all.
Instead, seeing him about to leave, she felt an inevitable sense of disappointment.
"Quan Shaoqing, will we meet again?"
Quan Shaoqing had reached the door when he heard her voice and suddenly stopped, turning to look at her.
Just one look, seeing the reluctance in her eyes, he raised an eyebrow, a hint of an ambiguous smile on his lips and his voice gentle as water, "What, you can’t bear to part with me?"
Gu Xiaoxi clenched her fists fiercely, damn it! Was she that obvious?
When her gaze met Quan Shaoqing’s, seeing the blatant contempt in his eyes, her heart was doused with cold water.
In the eyes of others, she was Bai Yaxuan’s wife. Couldn’t bear him leaving? Wasn’t that calling her fickle?
Or perhaps, he just found it amusing.
And her heart was inexplicably stirred.
"No! It’s for the medical bills," Gu Xiaoxi suppressed the light in her eyes, her tone turning distant.
Upon hearing this, Quan Shaoqing’s expression darkened rapidly.
He glared at Gu Xiaoxi, his tone ice-cold, "Didn’t I say, you were repaid just now?"
With that, he strode out of the ward like a shooting star.
Gu Xiaoxi lay in bed, listening to the fading footsteps, feeling an inexplicable annoyance.
The scent of the unfamiliar man lingered on her lips and nose; she was still wearing his clothes, his scent all over her.
She hated the feeling of being abandoned, and, ironically, she had just been abandoned again.
"Is anyone there?" Gu Xiaoxi called out, and soon a nurse came in.
"Do you need anything?" The nurse hurriedly asked with concern.
"Could I borrow your phone to make a call?"
Just as the nurse was about to hand over her phone, a grand procession of people arrived at the hospital entrance.
It should be said, it was Mr. Bai, admired by everyone in City A, appearing in the ward with a group of men in black.
Bai Yaxuan wore a white suit, looking travel-worn with dark circles under his eyes, clearly having stayed up the night before.
"Are you okay?" The second Bai Yaxuan saw Gu Xiaoxi, he let out a soft breath as if his hanging heart finally settled.
He quickly approached and instinctively reached out to touch Gu Xiaoxi’s forehead.
Thankfully, the temperature wasn’t too high, but still above normal.
The nurse was stunned for a moment before she reacted, quickly explaining before Gu Xiaoxi could speak, "She’s fine! As long as she rests well, she’ll recover in a couple of days."
Gu Xiaoxi nodded eagerly, "I’m already better, sorry for the inconvenience to your work."
Bai Yaxuan waved his hand, and the nurse left with regret—such a good opportunity to impress Mr. Bai had slipped away.
The nurse exited.
Bai Yaxuan gazed at Gu Xiaoxi’s feverishly flushed cheeks, his usually cold face showing a trace of anger, "Why didn’t you call me? What exactly happened last night?"
Because Gu Xiaoxi didn’t like being followed, Bai Yaxuan had only arranged for four bodyguards to protect her secretly.
By the time he found the beach, all the bodyguards were dead.
He had searched for her frantically the entire night, and yet she lay weakly on the hospital bed.
Gu Xiaoxi recounted what had happened the night before, albeit briefly and only the gist.
Bai Yaxuan’s face darkened, his eyes fixed on Gu Xiaoxi’s reddened lips, his voice cool, "Quan Shaoqing brought you to the hospital?"
"Yes!" Gu Xiaoxi nodded, her expression calm.
Bai Yaxuan watched her for a long while, not noticing anything unusual, before he finally said to Gu Xiaoxi, "Mi Xi has been in trouble; he was taken to the detention center last night."
"What?" Gu Xiaoxi was visibly shocked; how could Mi Xi end up in detention.
He was the chief CEO of the Gu Family, managing many of their industries.
No wonder he didn’t answer his phone last night. Mi Xi was in trouble, someone tried to assassinate her...
Linking everything together, it was certain that all these were premeditated.
"Xiao Xi, don’t panic. I will find a way to help you handle this, but it will take some time," Bai Yaxuan glanced at the ward, then stood up and pulled back her covers, "Let’s go home and talk."
His gaze fell on the man’s clothes she was wearing, just a brief glance, but his eyes grew colder. Without a doubt, he knew whose clothes they were.
Bai Yaxuan moved to carry her, but she quickly pushed back, "I can walk on my own!"
"Are you sure you can? Since I’m here, there must be a lot of reporters outside, and it’s bound to be chaotic."
Gu Xiaoxi felt that she was no longer a child; being carried around made her uncomfortable.
