Chapter 552: Chapter 42 Can’t Get Out
Once everyone had dispersed, Quan Shaoqing stretched out his hand and embraced Gu Xiaoxi, "It’s been so many days of hard work!"
Gu Xiaoxi buried her head in his chest, her smile radiant, "No! I am very happy. What about you? Have you finished your work?"
"Not yet! I asked for an hour off, and now more than ten minutes have passed." Quan Shaoqing patted her head, then together, they walked toward the nearby palace.
Hand in hand, they felt each other’s warmth.
It was obvious to Gu Xiaoxi, from the look in Quan Shaoqing’s eyes, that he was somewhat tired.
It was no surprise that these days, they had all been working tirelessly without sleep.
"How are things outside with the disaster?" Gu Xiaoxi couldn’t help asking.
"It’s severe. The death toll continues to climb. The earthquake was too strong, and it wasn’t detected beforehand. It came suddenly, and most people were sleeping at the time. Any building that wasn’t earthquake-resistant basically collapsed," Quan Shaoqing didn’t specify numbers because even he couldn’t believe how devastating the earthquake had been.
Gu Xiaoxi hung her head and let out a sigh, "We still have to find a way to get out quickly!"
Quan Shaoqing nodded, "Did you discover anything special here before?"
"Yes!" Gu Xiaoxi’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Quan Shaoqing, "The Queen looks a lot like me!"
Quan Shaoqing’s face darkened, "That’s not a discovery!"
"Oh!" Gu Xiaoxi sighed. "Really didn’t find anything else! Let’s go see that statue of the Queen together then!"
Gu Xiaoxi pointed toward a palace not far away, Quan Shaoqing held her hand, and in the next second, they appeared at the entrance of the palace.
When he saw the sight inside, he too was stunned by the grand architecture and statues.
"Previously, a nineteenth-generation Tomb Raider named Mu Fei said this is the Dalan Ancient Kingdom. Historically, it flourished two thousand years ago."
"Dalan Ancient Kingdom?" Quan Shaoqing raised an eyebrow, seemingly having heard of it.
"Dalan Ancient Kingdom, where women took the throne, and the first queen conquered the world through her own battles. Thus, all her subjects were her confidants. Historical records say she was stunningly beautiful, combining wisdom and benevolence, and was celebrated by later generations as a great emperor. However, over time, records of her became increasingly scarce, and she eventually faded from public view," Quan Shaoqing explained.
"So where did you get this information from?" Gu Xiaoxi asked.
"From some fragmented ancient texts! The records are incomplete! The history books have expunged her, so now, very few people know about her two thousand years ago."
Upon hearing this, Gu Xiaoxi nodded in understanding.
"Look, there’s the Queen! They say she looks like me! Do you think I could be the world’s number one beauty?" Gu Xiaoxi playfully grabbed Quan Shaoqing’s sleeve and demanded.
Quan Shaoqing immediately turned to look at the Queen. It must be said, the exquisite facial features, willow-leaf eyebrows, big eyes, and high nose bridge looked as if they had been cast in the same mold as Gu Xiaoxi.
Apart from the expression, everything else was strikingly similar.
Quan Shaoqing and Gu Xiaoxi stood before the Queen, examining the stone statue before them.
Gu Xiaoxi pointed to a Golden Incense Burner not far off, "Just now, a villager tampered with that incense burner and was killed on the spot by the black smoke that came out of it."
"You shouldn’t tamper with anything here; it was meant for the dead after all," Quan Shaoqing cautioned.
At the same time, he raised his eyebrows, looking around at the gold and silver treasures, and clicked his tongue!
"No wonder it’s the Dalan Ancient Kingdom; just constructing this city alone must’ve taken decades. This Queen’s ambition was not small, to desire such a luxurious palace to accompany her even in death," Quan Shaoqing narrowed his eyes, his dark, deep-set eyes filled with vigilance.
"I think we need to find the Queen’s coffin first! If we can find her coffin, maybe we can find a way out," Gu Xiaoxi said. She didn’t want to delay Quan Shaoqing’s work.
Afterward, Quan Shaoqing pulled Gu Xiaoxi away from the palace, to the stone wall they had arrived at outside the palace.
He pointed to the mountain caves on the stone wall, "Look! There are hundreds of holes in this stone wall. I believe you must’ve also noticed these caves when you came in."
Quan Shaoqing paused for a moment, then continued, "Inside the tunnels, there are armored soldiers, and outside are the tomb chambers for Palace Maids. When I entered, I found that there wasn’t just one of these tomb chambers and secret passages."
Gu Xiaoxi immediately closed her eyes and released her Spiritual Sense, discovering that the cliff face was covered with densely packed tunnel entrances.
She jumped in shock and hurriedly opened her eyes, "So many passages? Are they just like the one we came through?"
"Yes!" Quan Shaoqing nodded, his expression growing serious.
Gu Xiaoxi’s heart skipped several beats without reason, "If that’s the case, can we still find our way out?"
"It’s hard to say! The cave you fell into has been sealed off; I couldn’t even get in that way,"
"Then how did you get in?" Gu Xiaoxi looked Quan Shaoqing up and down.
Quan Shaoqing’s expression remained serious as he continued, "By the water where you fell, I found a connected passage that wasn’t very far away. After entering, I just kept walking. But with the tomb chamber collapsing, I couldn’t go back the same way, and I had to move to an adjacent passage. Then I arrived here. If you think about it carefully, you’ll realize the passages are not far apart, within the range I can teleport. However, taking all of these people back is impossible."
Gu Xiaoxi listened quietly.
Quan Shaoqing went on to say, "The passageways here are too complicated, I’ve become lost. And the other exits are all sealed. If I am to lead you out, we must find the collapsed cave you fell into before. I think, taking you back to look for it, is already impossible. The only way, just as you said, is to find the Queen’s chamber. Perhaps, we might find a way out."
Gu Xiaoxi touched her chin, feeling a bit anxious inside, "If we can’t find a passage, does that mean we will all be trapped here?"
"Right!"
Her anxiety wasn’t about not being able to get out, but the fear that Quan Shaoqing, staying with her, might delay his work.
"Then you, by yourself, can you go out and come back?" Gu Xiaoxi asked.
"I don’t know! So far, I haven’t figured out the structure of these passageways, nor have I found a regular spatial trajectory." His Special Ability was based on space. If there was no space, he couldn’t teleport. It was like when he ran into a wall after the stone gate collapsed before.
"How about you try? If you can get out, then go first, bring someone who understands Ancient Tombs back here. Then we can look for an exit together, and I’ll wait for you here," Gu Xiaoxi said seriously.
Quan Shaoqing looked at the palace behind him and then looked up at the Luminous Pearl above, "That’s the only way now!"
Although he no longer had the previous paths, he could still freely navigate the space of the Ancient Tomb by himself, and he believed he would eventually find a way out.
There was no point in him lingering here!
"Okay! Be careful, and wait for my return," Quan Shaoqing reached out to touch Gu Xiaoxi’s head and bent down to give her a light kiss on her cheek.
Gu Xiaoxi looked up happily and smiled, "Then hurry up!"
As she spoke, Quan Shaoqing let go of her hand and left the space.
He found one of the caves and walked into it.
Inside, it was exactly the same as the way he came.
Following the passageway and touching no traps, he finally passed through a wall and arrived at a tomb chamber with six coffins.
Then he continued to walk out.
In the end, he was disappointed.
At the end of the road was a stone wall, with no stone gate to be found.
This caused him to bump his head once again.
This path being impassable, he decided to take another.
So he tried over and over, walking through more than a dozen passageways, bumping his head over a dozen times, without finding a way out.
The flaw of Spatial Teleportation lay here; he couldn’t see through the stone walls blocking his way. Thus, he could only keep on guessing.
After more than a dozen tries, he finally found the passageway next to the collapsed cave through which he had originally come.
Quan Shaoqing got out.
Gu Xiaoxi continued to lead everyone around the palace, attempting to find the Queen’s coffin.
In the end, they failed.
Gu Xiaoxi and the others found some steps to sit down on.
With a look of regret, Mu Fei shook her head, "It’s my fault, after studying for so long, I still haven’t understood anything."
"Forget it, there’s no use talking about this now. Let’s all just sit down and conserve our energy," Gu Xiaoxi told everyone.
Because they hadn’t eaten, everyone was feeling hungry now.
Quan Shaoqing returned to headquarters, quickly handled his business, and at the same time, he sent two subordinates to look for a master who understood Ancient Tombs.
