Chapter 213: Chapter 146: Tacit Cooperation
"An hour from now, they’ll have reinforcements arriving, and then we’ll be in real trouble. Contact Yi Chentian and regroup quickly. Their accomplices should be nearby; use drones to search swiftly. Press the advantage and pursue!" Gu Xiaoxi reported to Shao Changfeng.
Shao Changfeng immediately made a simple analysis and deployment, then contacted Yi Chentian.
At this moment, everyone saw something in Gu Xiaoxi that was deeply shocking. Her petite figure suddenly seemed as towering as mountains, radiating a queenly aura.
Especially how she faced the war and life-or-death situations calmly—such bearing wasn’t something just anyone possessed.
Shao Changfeng was so stunned that he paused for a moment before hastily regaining his senses and said to Yi Chentian through the Communicator, "We’ve discovered the Hunters; where are you? Let’s regroup quickly."
"We’ve also found the Hunters and captured three of them. They’ll have reinforcements in an hour; where are you?" asked Yi Chentian.
"Area 1149!" said Shao Changfeng, revealing his position immediately.
After a moment of silence on the other side, Yi Chentian said, "I’m at 1189; it’s too late to regroup now. They have people spread out over a wide area. We must get to their warehouse."
Since they are Hunters, naturally they would have a warehouse.
Their warehouse was the center; when the time came, even if there were reinforcements arriving, they could still catch them off guard.
After severing contact with Yi Chentian, Shao Changfeng said to Gu Xiaoxi, "We’re a bit too far to regroup in an hour. Our priority now is to have him take us to their warehouse."
He pointed at the captive.
Gu Xiaoxi nodded, also agreeing with Yi Chentian’s command.
She grabbed a hunter and then made him look at the map in Shao Changfeng’s hands, pointing out the headquarters’ location.
At first, he pointed to two fake locations, and after being beaten up twice by Gu Xiaoxi, on the third attempt with his face bruised and swollen, he finally pointed out the correct location—Area 1167.
Song Jingyi felt, this was the Gu Xiaoxi she knew, interrogating in a manner that was straightforward, brutal, yet meaningful.
Forceful enough to make people comply without a thought of resistance.
"We must pick up the pace to get there from here!" The mountain roads were difficult to navigate, and the distance was already significant. Shao Changfeng exchanged the intelligence they had gathered with information from Yi Chentian, and after ensuring both were consistent, they quickly set out toward the Hunters’ warehouse.
The ten-person squad moved rapidly through the mountains, also being vigilant for the presence of wild beasts.
The closer they got to the Hunters’ warehouse, the more cautious they became.
Finally, in Area 1169, they stumbled upon a hunting ground, where fur and bones were piled high like mountains. The scene was bloody, cruel, and stank to high heaven.
There were eighteen people wielding weapons, patrolling the area.
When Shao Changfeng’s team arrived, Yi Chentian also timely led his team there.
Based on the number of people on-site, they estimated that half of them had gone out hunting, and the other half were guarding the warehouse.
"Quickly set up the ambush, and then close in for a joint encirclement," Shao Changfeng ordered.
The ten people rapidly dispersed, finding cover, and prepared to open fire.
Song Jingyi followed Gu Xiaoxi, her fear so intense that she couldn’t hold her gun steady, as traumatic memories from the past flashed through her mind.
It was a poor country where war had claimed the lives of many. Bullets had whizzed over her head, and her hometown had been turned to rubble by artillery fire.
Back then, she was only six years old, clad in tattered clothes, starving and eating grass roots, hiding in filthy sewer drains.
At six, she had experienced war, endured the harshness of the Mortal World, and suffered the loss of loved ones.
She had a deep-seated fear of war, terrified of bullets flying overhead, scared to see the mutilated corpses and debris.
Gu Xiaoxi sensed Song Jingyi’s unease from the moment they entered the forest. Her behavior had lost the composure she once had.
"What’s wrong with you?" she could only ask in a quiet voice.
Song Jingyi’s cheeks were pale, and her fingers trembled slightly. She just gasped for air, unable to utter a single word.
Gu Xiaoxi took her hand, covered in cold sweat, and instructed seriously, "Then you stay here. I’ll go over there!"
Song Jingyi nodded. She couldn’t move her feet at the moment and naturally wouldn’t act tough.
She thought she might not be suited to be a soldier tasked with defending her country, as she couldn’t overcome the psychological barrier.
Gu Xiaoxi patted her shoulder heavily, then gripped the weapon in her hand. Following Shao Changfeng’s command and in coordination with Yi Chengtian and the others, she quickly charged forward.
In an instant, the previously silent woods erupted into intense combat.
Bullets flew overhead, causing the snow on the trees to fall whoosh whoosh whoosh to the ground.
One minute later, with zero casualties on their side, they had killed eleven enemies and captured seven.
The cooperation between both sides in this battle was incredibly seamless.
Upon scouting the enemy, they quickly reported their position to their superiors and had the rear prepare fighter planes for immediate support.
Because the reinforcement for the enemy side was about to arrive.
The eighteen people who had gone out hunting had six taken down and captured by Gu Xiaoxi. Yi Chengtian caught three and eliminated another three on the way.
Now the target was reduced to six remaining.
Finally, it was decided to send ten people from the reconnaissance team to continue the search for the remnants, while Yi Chentian prepared to stay in the area with his men to wipe out all the enemy reinforcements.
This is the difference between a reconnaissance unit and a combat unit.
Combat units are the main force, whereas Gu Xiaoxi and his team only needed to scout and help the main combat units when necessary to complete their mission.
Zhao Zilong was clearly disappointed for being sent to the rear before he had the chance to show his prowess in this mission.
Shao Changfeng patted his shoulder, then looked at everyone and explained, "This is what the squad leader often talks about—unity. We are a team, and the honors we receive in the future will be as a team. Therefore, don’t fuss about charging forward or staying at the rear. Our success in scouting valuable clues is a victory. The remaining six need to be dealt with by us. Everybody, act quickly, and don’t slack."
"Yes!"
After pondering, Shao Changfeng said, "This time we’ll split into groups again to search. Three people to a group, Li Jing and Zhu Zheng follow me. Song Jingyi, Zhao Zilong, Luo Chen will form one group. Gu Xiaoxi, Qian Jiangjiang, Yang Jian will make another. We must find the poaching remnants."
"Yes!"
After receiving their orders, everyone split up to proceed with their tasks.
Before leaving, Gu Xiaoxi glanced at Zhao Zilong, "My feud is with you; don’t drag others into it."
It meant to let him not bully Song Jingyi.
Zhao Zilong understood what Gu Xiaoxi meant, raised his eyebrows, and scoffed coldly, "Do I look like that kind of person?"
Having said that, he took Song Jingyi and quickly departed.
Gu Xiaoxi turned to Qian Jiangjiang and Yang Jian, who were behind her. As they quickly left, she asked, "From now on, I’m the team leader. You guys don’t have a problem with that, do you?"
"Of course not!" The two nodded immediately.
Gu Xiaoxi had an undefeated record in the drills, naturally having her remarkable qualities.
They definitely wouldn’t overestimate their abilities and demand the command.
Satisfied, Gu Xiaoxi then led the three of them away in a different direction.
