Chapter 119: Chapter 52 A Scarecrow
The military dog barked at her, and without a second thought, Gu Xiaoxi hoisted her pack onto her back and took off running.
She sprinted away, her speed astonishingly fast.
Behind her, the military dog chased after her, barking loudly.
As Gu Xiaoxi ran, the barking seemed to grow louder and closer.
Eventually, the dog managed to sprint in front of her.
Of course, the people behind didn’t catch up.
Was it just a dog that had gotten in front of her to block her path?
Gu Xiaoxi couldn’t believe it.
"Woof Woof Woof!" The military dog, standing a full meter tall with a lean and formidable presence, growled menacingly at her.
Gu Xiaoxi clicked her tongue, certain this dog was the king among military dogs to have caught up to her.
"Move aside, or beware I’m going to play dirty," Gu Xiaoxi glared, widening her eyes in anger at the military dog.
The military dog stood on end its pure black fur and kept barking insistently.
Seeing it wouldn’t budge and hearing footsteps approaching from behind, Gu Xiaoxi’s eyes darkened as she decided to show no more mercy.
By the time the seven men caught up, they heard a terrible yelp.
The leading man was Huang Xin, the owner of the dog. Startled by his beloved pet’s cry of pain, he scrambled up and dashed forward clumsily.
Then he saw his cherished Flying Tiger bound with vines, hanging in midair, looking more unsightly than could be described.
Gone was the Champion Dog’s majestic appearance, replaced by the ridiculous sight of a dog strung up like a bumbling fool — embarrassing.
"Flying Tiger!" Huang Xin hurried to let his canine down, and seeing the tufts of hair that had been rubbed off, his heart ached tremendously.
"Wow, Huang Xin, looks like you’ve met your match! To have tied up Flying Tiger and hung it from a tree, that’s the work of a true expert," a soldier who had caught up laughed heartily at the sight of the humiliated Flying Tiger.
Flying Tiger had once won the national detective competition and had been awarded third place in the world military dog competition, making it a renowned Champion Dog.
It could instantly take down a burly adult and, when facing an enemy, could easily snap the assailant’s arm without breaking a sweat.
It was known as the king of kings.
The group that had followed couldn’t stop laughing until they were out of breath.
"Huang Xin, it seems Flying Tiger has finally met its match."
"Your Flying Tiger always bullies others, ha-ha-ha, now it’s been bullied in return. I give props to that person."
Huang Xin’s face darkened; couldn’t they see how distressed he was? Yet those people dared to laugh at him — it was too much.
After being let down, Flying Tiger barked at Huang Xin and then bolted.
To shake off the dog that was tracking her, Gu Xiaoxi had run a full five kilometers. Just when she stopped to catch her breath, she heard a distant bark from behind — the dog was still in pursuit.
Scared, she immediately took off running again.
This time, she ran straight for eight kilometers before she finally eluded the ferocious military dog.
Gu Xiaoxi reached a valley, unsure of its location.
Wiping the sweat from her forehead, she looked up to find a small thatched cottage.
With no one in sight, Gu Xiaoxi cautiously approached the cottage, alert.
Not hearing a sound, she boldly entered the cottage.
However, upon seeing the inside, she was flabbergasted.
There, right in front of her, was "Expert Number Four."
Damn, it was just a straw man.
And she had wildly speculated it might be Zhao Zilong or some other illustrious figure.
Gu Xiaoxi immediately took out a map and, after comparing it to the red dot on the map, realized that this was indeed one of the locations marked by the red dots.
Does that mean she just had to visit each red dot to kill a straw man?
Gu Xiaoxi opened her mouth, realizing she’d have to run the entire course!
She almost found it funny — this assassination task was, in truth, just an exercise in physical endurance.
