Chapter 969 - Chapter 969 Chapter 969 The Man Remains As Graceful As Ever
Chapter 969: Chapter 969: The Man Remains As Graceful As Ever Chapter 969: Chapter 969: The Man Remains As Graceful As Ever Just as they were chatting happily, a maid walked in.
“Madam, the master is back.”
Ann Nolan’s face flashed with astonishment, “Why has he come back?”
“Mr. Santos’s car just returned, he should be arriving in the living room shortly,” the maid said.
“I see,” Ann responded indifferently.
The maid nodded and left.
No sooner had she spoken than the living room door opened, a gust of hot air swept in.
Zaiden Santos steadied a suitcase with one hand and slung his suit jacket over the other arm; he looked haggard and weary.
His deep-set eyes harbored intensity; his gaze still, his expression composed.
His sharp eyes landed on Ann Nolan and did not waver.
Jasmine Yale looked up and saw Zaiden Santos; she nudged Ann Nolan, who was sipping her tea.
The man in the dark shirt maintained his usual refined elegance, just as Jasmine had seen him for the first time.
Ann raised her head and frowned.
Why did he look as if he had just returned from a business trip outside?
Hadn’t he had lunch with Harper Glorian at noon?
Zaiden Santos placed the suitcase by the wall and walked slowly toward the couch.
“You’re back,” Ann Nolan tried to stand up.
“I heard you were injured,” Zaiden Santos pressed her shoulder and threw his suit jacket on the couch, “Is it serious?”
“It’s nothing, just a sprained foot, not a big deal.”
“I just rushed back from City Z, sorry, I’m late,” his face showed a hint of apology.
City Z is not far from Landon, actually quite close.
Jasmine Yale felt a bit awkward, “Ann, I just remembered, I have an appointment with Professor Mackenzie today, so I’ll head over to the Mackenzie family first.”
With her there, she somewhat felt like a third wheel.
Without waiting for Ann Nolan’s response, she dashed off.
However, Zaiden Santos called out calmly from behind, “Miss Yale, I’ll have the driver take you.”
“Thank you,” Jasmine felt even more embarrassed.
Zaiden Santos really did not intend to persuade her to stay; as soon as she said she was leaving, he immediately instructed the driver.
“Jasmine, be careful on your way,” Ann Nolan could only offer her concern.
Jasmine Yale did not linger for long; her job was done once she had safely brought Ann Nolan home.
With Jasmine gone, silence returned to the living room.
Ann Nolan sat on the couch, expressionlessly fingering the teacup in her hand.
She looked down at the pale green tea leaves quietly floating on the water’s surface in the white porcelain cup.
The tea fragrance was refreshing, with a mist lingering above it.
“Let me see,” Zaiden Santos squatted down, reached out his hand, wanting to inspect the injury on her ankle.
Ann involuntarily pulled her foot away, preventing him from touching it.
“It’s nothing, just a minor injury, and besides, Jasmine is gone, there’s no one else here, no need to put on a show,” Ann said, her face indifferent and calm.
She drew her foot back.
Zaiden Santos remained squatting, and his gaze darkened.
“What show? Isn’t it natural for me to be concerned about you?” Zaiden Santos said coldly.
“Don’t, I’m afraid.”
Ann shifted a bit further away from Zaiden Santos, beside the couch.
Would a weasel pay a New Year’s visit to a chicken without ulterior motives? Ann did not believe so.
Zaiden Santos’s face darkened even more, he lifted his head and stared at Ann Nolan, “You have an attitude problem.”
“Oh?” Ann Nolan was surprised, how did she have an attitude problem?
She didn’t want to argue with Zaiden Santos; she knew as soon as he returned, her peace would be disrupted.
“I’m away on a business trip, and you don’t even call me?” Zaiden Santos stood up, his tone reproachful but with more helplessness.
“You’re not lacking for a phone call.”
“You!” Zaiden Santos was taken aback.
“I’m a bit tired, I want to go upstairs for a nap,” Ann Nolan looked at him.
