Chapter 1023 - Chapter 1023 Chapter 1023 Never Received Roses
Chapter 1023: Chapter 1023: Never Received Roses Chapter 1023: Chapter 1023: Never Received Roses Grandfather Santos was getting on in years and enjoyed the feeling of having his grandchildren around him.
Both grandsons were good to him, and his daughter-in-law had a pleasant temper, which brought him particular comfort.
He just liked to talk with them, have meals together, and didn’t ask for anything more.
Zachary Santos peeled a shrimp and handed it to Grandfather Santos.
“Grandfather, this garlic shrimp was made by Ann, please have a taste,” Zachary said.
“Ann’s cooking isn’t bad either, I know,” praised Grandfather Santos. “Ann is also very filial. Your brother doesn’t keep me company much, but Ann often comes to visit me. She’s truly respectful.”
“Grandfather, it’s only right,” Ann Nolan said, embarrassed by the praise.
She felt a touch of sorrow in her heart, thinking that if she were to leave the Santos family and Landon, she might never see Grandfather Santos again.
She felt a little guilty toward the elderly man.
He had always been kind to her.
“It’s obvious,” Zachary Santos laughed and peeled another shrimp, tossing it to Ann Nolan. “Here, try it for yourself.”
Ann Nolan smiled, “I’m not a child anymore, I can do it myself.”
“Don’t be polite with Evan, it’s fine, just let him do it,” Grandfather Santos said with a smile. “As a young lady, you just need to eat.”
Ann Nolan felt quite uncomfortable.
This was only the second time she had met Zaiden Santos, and now she was letting him peel shrimps for her, which made her feel very embarrassed.
After all, Zaiden Santos had never done such things.
Zachary Santos was gentle in character, and his every move was imbued with an air of grace.
His face always bore a faint smile, the corners of his mouth curved slightly upwards, and his eyes were as clear and luminous as peach blossoms reflected in water.
Occasionally, when Ann Nolan looked up, her gaze would meet his.
“I still prefer to eat what you make with your own hands. It feels better than what the cook makes,” Grandfather Santos mused. “I’m old now, that’s all I wish for.”
“Grandfather, you are not old at all. You were a colonel who carried a gun in your day,” Ann Nolan said with a smile.
“Mentioning that brings back memories of the life in the barracks with Elder Nolan. I joined the military later than he did, and he took good care of me,” Grandfather Santos reminisced. “I haven’t seen him in a long time. I should go have tea with him, play chess, and perhaps have a shooting match like in the old days when we were evenly matched.”
“If you have time, I can arrange it too,” Ann Nolan suggested. “My grandfather often talks about you too!”
“Hmm, it’s been over a year since I’ve seen him. Elder Nolan has probably gained more weight,” laughed Grandfather Santos.
Ann Nolan smiled coyly.
The whole family eating together was indeed a joyous affair.
Grandfather Santos wasn’t a strict person, and he didn’t stick too rigidly to formalities, especially with his grandchildren.
“Today is the Qixi Festival. Did no one send you two roses?” Grandfather Santos asked with a smile. “I just had someone buy two bouquets. Later, each of you will get one as a gift for spending Qixi Festival with me!”
“Grandfather, as a man, I think I can pass,” said Zachary Santos.
“No way, if you take the flowers, make sure to bring a girlfriend home this year,” insisted Grandfather Santos.
Ann Nolan saw the helpless look on Zachary Santos’s face and laughed.
Ann Nolan had never received roses before. Well, even though they were from her grandfather this year, it was still nice.
When Ann Nolan smiled, the corners of her mouth lifted slightly, her eyes sparkled, and the diamond earrings by her ears lent her an air of grace and composure.
In the afternoon, she and Zachary Santos continued to keep Grandfather Santos company.
They talked about finance, real estate, and the stock market. She didn’t understand much, so she just made tea for them and occasionally chimed in.
Fall had arrived, bringing crisp and clear evenings.
When the breeze blew, the green leaves rustled softly.
