For a moment, the hospital room was as quiet as a graveyard.

The doorbell of the hospital room rang.

“Come in,” Sylvan said indifferently.

“Mr. Cheney, I heard you were ill, so I came to see you,” Joan Harry appeared in the hospital room wearing a light blue dress, holding a basket of fruit.

Her demure face reflected concern as her eyes fell upon Sylvan.

“It’s nothing.”

“How can it be nothing? I heard from the doctor you need to be hospitalized! Mr. Cheney, you can’t joke about your health; if there’s anything bothering you, you need to talk about it. I’m willing to listen,” Joan said with a smile.

She sat on the sofa and peeled an apple.

“I even made you some jujube porridge for nourishing your stomach. You need to take good care of yourself these few days, Mr. Cheney, and not neglect your health.”

After peeling the apple, Joan took out the jujube porridge she had brought with her.

“Back when I was at university abroad and living alone, I learned to cook a few dishes. This jujube porridge is my specialty; try some, Mr. Cheney!” Joan said. “It’s still warm.”

“Thank you, but I’m not hungry right now.”

“Um… then I’ll leave it here. Remember to drink it.”

Joan was like a fresh breeze; the moment she came in, the atmosphere became much livelier.

Charles McIntosh did not come in. Meanwhile, a nurse arrived to remove Sylvan’s IV.

Joan was peeling apples and pouring hot water, bustling about warmly.

There was an indescribable feeling in Sylvan’s heart.

“Mr. Cheney, just focus on getting better in the hospital for the next few days; don’t worry, I’ve taken care of your office work. Mr. McIntosh is handling the complex stuff, and I’m here for the simple matters!” Joan whispered softly. “So, just focus on recovering.”

She had already joined the Cheney Family, becoming a member of the secretarial department.

“Although I’m not very familiar with the Cheney enterprise yet, I will get up to speed as quickly as possible and be a good employee,” Joan said with a laugh, her eyes turning into crescents when she did.

Knowing Sylvan wasn’t much for conversation, she was used to it and kept talking.

“I visited the orphanage again yesterday. A few children were adopted, and we have some new arrivals, including a three-month-old baby girl. She’s quite pitiful,” she sighed, “but she’s really pretty, all pink and lovable. Mr. Cheney, shall we bring some more formula the next time we go?”

“Mm.”

“Yesterday I brought them snacks, stationery, and clothes; they all seemed really happy. I like it when they call me ‘sister.’ Seeing them happy makes me content,” Joan flipped through her phone, “I took a lot of photos; I’ll show you.”

She sat beside the bed and showed Sylvan the photos one by one.

There were pictures of her playing games with the children, photos of the children eating, and pictures of the new facilities at the orphanage.

In every photo, Joan appeared extremely happy, without a single worry.

The children also seemed to like her and weren’t shy.

Joan was sitting very close to Sylvan.

“Ahem.”

While Joan was showing the photos, the partially closed door to the hospital room was pushed open, and a man cleared his throat.

Joan’s complexion faltered, and she quickly stood up, putting away her phone.

Zaiden Santos removed his sunglasses, “Sorry to disturb you.”

“Mr. Santos is joking,” Joan said with a smile. “You talk; I just remembered I left something in the car, I’ll go down to get it.”
