Chapter 55
~Serissa’s POV~
"Oh shit..." I muttered, slapping my palm to my forehead as a memory crashed into me.
**Flashback**
It had been a normal day—almost boring.
I was walking into the hallway when Spring bumped into me like she slipped and fell. My first and initial thought was that she only wanted to sully me with her presence or get a touch of my grace.
Her arm grazed mine as she stumbled, and I flinched, hating to have to make contact with a commoner rogue.
"What do you think you’re—Don’t touch me!"
"Sorry," she’d said calmly. "I tripped."
I had rolled my eyes. "You should watch where you’re going. Mutts shouldn’t crawl into royalty."
She turned then, eyes cool. Unbothered. Annoyingly dignified.
"Careful, Princess," she said. "Try to be gracious. And maybe stop screaming like a deranged raccoon next time."
She walked away like I was the one who’d embarrassed myself.
Moments later, I’d felt an itch at the back of my hand. Just a sting. I’d ignored it. But ever since... nothing had been the same.
**Flashback Ends**
My knees nearly buckled as realization slammed into me. My eyes remained wide, my mouth just agape enough at my shock.
Fuck!
"She knew," I whispered.
Delilah frowned. "Huh?"
"She knew," I repeated louder, staring blankly at the wall.
"She knew what? And who knew whatever?" Delilah snapped impatiently.
"Spring Kaine knew I tried to hex her. She didn’t just block it. She reversed it. Sh-she cursed me."
Delilah’s mouth fell open. "Oh... shit."
That was it. That was the straw that broke the already cracking dam in my chest.
I screamed—raw, loud, guttural.
"Aaaaahhhhhh!!! Spring!!!"
Lani bolted from the room like her life depended on it.
Delilah just stared, frozen.
And I stood there, breath ragged, vision blurred with fury and shame.
The curse was real. I was the one unraveling. And if I do not locate my mother on time, who knows what hell of a shame I would bring upon myself other than this.
Frantically, I spun in the direction of my wardrobe, dragged my school bag, and a few things.
I felt Delilah behind me, but I ignored her completely.
"Where are you going? What are you looking for?"
"I-I’m going home," I said as I straightened back up with my bag in my hands. "I need to break the dark magic on me before I ruin my reputation further..."
"But shouldn’t you..."
I ignored Delilah and walked out, stopping outside the door. "Keep me posted on things." And with that, I was gone.

~Madelyn’s POV~
Ever since the day of my defeat, the humiliation had known no bounds.
Whispers weren’t whispers anymore—they had evolved into loud scoffs, cruel jokes, and mocking chuckles that followed me like a second shadow.
I kept to the edges, drifting along the corridors like a ghost in a school I once ruled.
I was no longer Madelyn Pierce, the Savage Sly of the Top Ten—I was just a house pet, an embarrassment, a warning tale for those who dared to underestimate Spring Kaine.
Thankfully, neither Spring nor Eva had laid eyes on me since.
I didn’t know if it was mercy or indifference. I told myself it was the latter.
I knew enough about how the master and house pet rules worked.
If they wanted to, I’d be made to report to them daily—do their laundry, clean their rooms, iron their uniforms, buy them lunch, lay out snacks for breakfast, copy their notes like a servant, or worse, kneel while they did their makeup and laughed about it.
I sighed as I rubbed my sore fingers, still tingling from the punishment I’d received from one of the seniors earlier.
Being a house pet wasn’t just degrading—it was dangerous. Some bold seniors used pets like pawns. There were no written rules against it, and because there were none, they made up their own.
I had just finished washing two full baskets of soiled clothes and missed out on every round of the school games this morning.
No glory. No status elevation.
No redemption. Just the smell of detergent and dirty socks.
By the time I left the dorms and walked across the main yard into the building, I kept my head down, praying to whatever spirit could hear me that I’d get to class unnoticed.
But luck had left me a long time ago.
I rounded the corner and slammed hard into someone.
My nose connected sharply with the silver crest on her breast pocket. A sharp sting made my eyes water instantly.
As realization set in, my blood ran cold and my heart stuttered.
I stumbled backward, my knees hitting the cold floor before I even registered it.
No... not her...
I didn’t need to look up before I knew. Nor did I need a soothsyaer to tell me my days were numbered.
The aura, the scent of elderberry and frost, and that unmistakable air of menace told me everything I needed to know.
"V-Vice President," I whispered shakily, dipping my head as low as it could go. "Forgive me. I didn’t see you there."
Lilith’s laugh was ice-cold.
"So... losing the match you tried to rig against Spring not only stripped you of your dignity but of your sight too? No wonder you lack vision."
Her voice cut deeper than any slap could. I bit the inside of my cheek to keep my composure and bowed my head even lower.
"I apologize," I whispered.
She stepped forward, slowly, like she was walking on a ground made of glass.
"Look at you. One of my former underlings, now nothing more than a crawling disgrace. A commoner’s house pet."
Her words stung like poison. And yet... she was right. I was crawling. Crawling through shame, through dirt, through mockery.
But I still wanted her approval.
I still wanted to get back into the high ranks. Into power and back into purpose.
Throwing aside the last shreds of pride, I fell on my hands, crawling toward her. My fingers trembled as I reached for the hem of her shoe.
"Vice President," I whispered hoarsely. "I made a mistake. I underestimated her. I got sloppy. But if you give me one more chance, I will crush her. I will win for you."
I wrapped my fingers around the tip of her shoe, desperation lacing my every word. "Please."
She didn’t move for a moment.
Then, with a sharp motion, she kicked my hand away, sending me reeling back.
"Look at you, groveling just like you did for Spring," she sneered.
I dared to lift my gaze. Her black hair was left cascading in waves down her back and waist, not a strand out of place. Her eyes were cold steel, lips curved in that same cruel smirk that had commanded fear and loyalty alike.
"Please..." I whispered again, swallowing the lump rising in my throat.
She stared at me for a long moment. Then, to my surprise, she chuckled.
"Fine," she said at last. "If you beg well enough, I might consider helping you. You’re pathetic—but at least you’re learning your place."
Faint but real hope flared in my chest. I wiped my cheek with the back of my sleeve.
"Anything. I’ll do anything."
"Good," she said smoothly. "Then clean my shoes."
I blinked. I reached for the handkerchief tucked into my blazer pocket.
She raised a hand to stop me.
"No. With your tongue."
I froze.
