Chapter 46
~Spring’s POV~
Lucien winced as I twisted his wrist and dug my heel back against his shin. Not hard enough to break anything—but enough to make him curse through his teeth.
"Still as sharp," he hissed, lips curving despite the pain.
"Don’t come near me again," I said, shoving his hand off my waist with more force than necessary.
But Lucien—stupid, cocky, Lucien—just smirked. "What’s the matter, Sunshine? You’re all high and mighty now because you won a child’s game? Got five powerful mates ready to worship the ground you walk on?"
I narrowed my eyes.
He leaned in like it was a joke. "Didn’t stop you from writing me that love letter back then. Don’t forget—you wanted me first."
My hand twitched at my side.
"You really think that little win gives you the right to act like I don’t matter anymore?"
I smiled, slowly and coldly. "Correction," I said. "I have four mates and you do not qualify as one of them."
His grin faltered for half a second before twisting into something ugly. Before I could turn to leave, his hand lashed out and gripped my wrist. Tight.
"You don;t walk out of me, Spring. You are mine and I have as much right as the others to claim you."
This sick bastard. What make shim think he is in the same league as Storm and the others?
"Let go, Lucien."
"I’ll show you what power looks like," he spat, yanking me back and slamming me lightly against the wall. His breath brushed my cheek as he leaned in, gaze burning.
Wrong move.
In one swift motion, my knee shot up between his legs.
A sharp, satisfying crunch pierced the silence. He crumpled forward with a strangled groan, hands flying to the injury.
I didn’t even flinch.
I stepped sideways, calmly dusting invisible dirt off my clothes. "You think that was a game? I didn’t win a child’s game, Lucien," I said coolly. "But of course you’re too dumb to know that. All brawn. No brain."
Lucien coughed, still doubled over. His eyes burned with fury when he managed to glare up at me.
But I only shook my head. "I warned you. Come close to me again with this pathetic act, and I’ll forget we’re mates. I won’t hold back next time."
And with that, I turned on my heel and walked away, letting him stew in it.
I knew the war wasn’t over because while Serissa was scheming, Rose was fuming and plotting God knows what, Lilith had a challenge to prepare for, and the stakes had never been higher.
But here, right now?
Spring Kaine had my name and voice and apparently—I had my sensible mates.

~Storm’s POV~
The council chamber had never felt colder.
Not in temperature—though the obsidian floor always held a chill—but in atmosphere.
Silence hung like a blade. Even Jace wasn’t lounging like usual. He sat upright, jaw clenched.
Tyrion had his arms folded, gaze fixed somewhere distant, unreadable.
Kael, next to him, kept tapping his finger on the table in a slow rhythm that screamed tension.
Lilith sat across from me. Perfect posture. Legs crossed. Her signature black lipstick never smudged. Her eyes—glacial and sharp—stayed on me.
To her right, Rael, the Vampire-born and Head of Disciplinary Affairs, leaned back in his chair, spinning a gold ring around his finger.
Next to him was Mira, the Fae-born Council Archivist, her violet eyes glinting with curiosity as she adjusted her glasses.
Blade, the Elven-born Socials Director, looked between us all like he was watching a high-stakes match.
Raphael, the Demon-born Chief Enforcer, simply smiled, his obsidian horns barely hidden beneath his glamour.
And Isadora, our Witch-born Strategist, stirred her tea calmly, though her narrowed eyes told me she wasn’t missing a word.
Lilith broke the silence first.
"I’m being accused now?" she asked coolly, addressing no one in particular. "For what? Keeping order? Maintaining hierarchy?"
"You challenged a student," I said, voice even.
"I never issued a formal challenge," she replied, tilting her head. "She called me by name. That, per the Code, is a provocation—"
"Don’t quote rules to me you didn’t write nor did I sign and approve," I cut in, my gaze locking onto hers. "You accepted. Publicly."
"I did it to uphold the council’s authority," Lilith snapped. "What happens when students stop fearing us? This entire structure collapses."
"The council was never meant to be feared," Tyrion murmured, his voice calm but razor-sharp. "It was meant to ensure balance."
"She’s your mate, Storm," Lilith said, ignoring him. "Don’t let your instincts cloud your position."
I leaned forward, my voice dropping. "I never told you to maintain a hierarchy. And I never gave you orders to bait Spring into a match."
Lilith flinched. A blink. A single stutter in her perfect mask.
Before she could speak again, Kael chuckled, but there was no humor in it. "Isn’t it funny? You started this mess and now you’re scrambling to justify it."
"Careful," Lilith warned. "You might be next."
"I’d love to," Jace cut in, his grin toothy and cold. "But unlike Spring, I’d actually make you cry."
Rael finally spoke, his voice as smooth. "I don’t care who wins, but the rules have been invoked. And per precedent, the duel must go forward. So the question is, when?
Mira glanced at Lilith thoughtfully. "Do you have a date in mind for the challenge?"
Lilith smirked. "Does it matter? I’m not afraid of her."
Isadora sipped her tea slowly. "You should be. The hallways reek of her name right now. The students already see her as a contender."
Blade raised a brow. "And if you lose, Lilith, not only will your seat be stripped... but you’ll be barred from reclaiming it."
Lilith’s jaw twitched.
"That’s council protocol," Raphael added, smiling wide, fangs gleaming. "Three strikes. Challenge. Defeat. Disgrace. You’re out. Permanently."
She said nothing.
I leaned back in my seat and steepled my fingers. "We’ll make the match official. Council-supervised. Spectators limited. Fair game only."
"And the games?" Isadora asked.
"We draw them from neutral lots," Tyrion said. "Chosen by one student from each year, like Spring suggested..."
Lilith looked at me and narrowed her eyes. "And if I win?"
"She’ll leave Noxshade Academy," I said without hesitation. "Just like you will if you lose."
Silence swept the table.
"The deal wasn’t my leaving, but she leaves and rejects all her mates, including you all."
My aura darkened at her audacity. "And who are you to speak into a matter decided on by the Moon Goddess?"
Lilith was about to speak when Mira cut in, murmuring. "Then it’s settled. She leaves or you leave. Your seat for her mates. A bet is a bet, President. The council’s name is at stake here too. She cannot go back on her word, especially since the said mate accepted."
I wanted to speak, to shut them down and threaten them with the same by also making them face Spring in a challenge, but like Lilith, everyone seated here was deadly and not someone I wanted Spring to be associated with.
Lilith stood. "Then let her come. I’ll show you all why the council stands where it does."
As her heels clicked across the floor, Kael muttered, "Or why it’s about to fall."
