Chapter 44: Kiss Him!

Chapter 44
~Spring’s POV~
His eyes narrowed slightly, the corners of his mouth twitching like he wanted to argue but didn’t. I could still feel the pressure in his arms like he was holding himself back from doing something.
And something in me wanted to push past his restraint to see what he’d do. Provoke him and maybe, just maybe he’d shout or get mad.
Storm tutted instead. "You’re trying my patience, mate."
His thumb brushed my jaw, trailing the line of my cheek with maddening gentleness before his gaze drifted down to my lips, slowly and deliberately.
The way he looked at them made my breath cease involuntarily, and I didn’t move.
"I wanted to kiss you so bad right now," he whispered with a gentleness that left me speechless... again. "But I’ll wait. Until you want it too."
My heart stuttered briefly. Storm could’ve kissed me, claimed the moment but he didn’t and that—more than anything—shook something loose in me.
Because in my world, power never waited for girls like Spring, and power always came with possession.
Affection always came with a price or earned through obedience and silence.
But Storm’s choice of restraint felt heavier than passion, and for the first time, I didn’t feel like prey for male dominance.
His gaze returned to mine, and I saw longing there. "And when this mess of a game is over," Storm added, "you’ll be mine."
Neither of us spoke as we stayed too close to each other that I felt his breath fanning my cheeks and neck softly.
Behind me, I could feel Chloe holding back a squeal. Nari had probably dropped her snack. Eva... was likely melting.
But I didn’t care because Storm was still holding me, and Jade... in all her experience, was squealing like a little cub in my head.
"Kiss him, Kiss him already, Sol... Please."
I nodded once, and his fingers loosened but didn’t let go.
"I won’t stop you while you play your games, but... I want to fill your thoughts all through."
I smiled as I straightened in his arms. "If I do that, mate, wouldn’t I be distracted and end up losing?"
His smirk brightened as he leaned in just a breath short of my lips. "Think of me while you game and you will never lose."
Then, without another word, Storm turned and walked away. I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding and turned back to the girls only to meet a little spectacle.
Eva was holding back a squeal, while Chloe blinked adorably at me.
"Okay. I think I forgot how to breathe," Chloe said in a hushed tone.
Nari fanned herself with a napkin. "He just said he wanted to kiss you. In front of half the school."
"I almost fainted," Eva whispered. "I actually leaned into Chloe for support."
I just shrugged took my snack from Eva and took another bite of my chicken puff.
Because if they thought that was intense, they hadn’t seen anything yet. I was going to change the dynamics of this school and set them all free.
**************
The previous day was eventful after that. A few people who thought Madelyn’s win was a fluke challenged me to a personal game.
Like I said, I had the opportunity of playing my Uncle as a child in my past life, ranging from Chess, Drought, Monopoly, Poker etc...
So when I was challenged to a game of chess, with stakes in money... I laughed, a bit maniacally like he used to do back then.
But I did not understand what got to him whenever he won or got challenged in games until now... It felt good when your opponents looked down on you.
My lips pulled at the side as I clasped my hands and accepted the challenge.
I won the four games I played after Madelyn and left school peacefully at the close of day.
By the next morning, I stood in front of the mirror checking my appearance. It has been a few weeks, two or three to be precise, since my soul first took over this body.
And in that time, I had improved my diet, added a little more flesh, and done a little bit of exercise in my room, trying not to bring attention to myself and Spring’s unlikely behaviour.
Still, it couldn’t make up for all the training I had done in my past life. It felt like I had hit the highest mark only to be tossed back to square one.
"You still look beautiful, especially with your eyes and lovely white streak."
I nodded silently. "Still need to build her because I can see more roads of trouble for Spring in the future, and I need to be ready to hold my own when they do attack."
"If that ever happens," Jade voiced in my head, "I’ll protect you with my life."
"And I, you."
After my usual morning routine, I had my breakfast served in my room to avoid any fake situation-ship with Rose and Mum, then I headed to school.
This week, since before my birthday, my brothers had been overly busy, and while I did not mind their absence, something in me ached.
Perhaps because I was getting a little bit used to their presence but I could not blame anyone after how I treated Eryx the other day.
I arrived at school with one of the Kaine’s family drivers dropping me off, under my brother’s rules, ready to passively move through the day and focus on my studies.
I figured rather than spending the hours of the night reading to familiarize myself with things, I should make use of the daytime.
But as soon as I entered the school building, my name wasn’t just whispered like yesterday anymore.
It echoed.
Faint glimmers of enchanted ink shimmered across lockers—small phrases like "She flipped the deck" or "Queen of the Game" appearing and vanishing before any adult could catch them.
Even the quad’s projection board, usually reserved for school announcements, briefly glitched—looping a freeze-frame of me holding Madelyn’s antidote bottle, half-smiling, like I’d planned it all.
Spoiler: I had.
