Chapter 399 - 310: Spirit Moon Ceremony, The Crimson Hanging High (Four-in-One) (Additional Release for 11700 Monthly Tickets in May)
"No clan is entitled to..."
Mahiya clearly hadn't expected such words to come from her own ancestor's mouth.
Could it be that even the Moon Spirit Clan, which had survived from one ten-thousand-year period to the next, breaking the Heavenly Dome Rank's rules to become the last victor, had no right to contend with the Immortal Clan of that era?
"The Immortal Clan... are they really that strong?" Mahiya asked, somewhat distracted, "Then, what about the relationship between the Human Race and the Immortal Clan..."
"The Human Race should be the inheritors of the Immortal Clan," spoke the Ancestor of the Moon Spirit slowly, "I'm not certain how much they know about the events of that time, nor am I certain what legacy the Immortal Clan left for them, but one thing is for sure."
"Mahiya, the Human Race will be our clan's greatest opponent in the struggle of the races."
"Given that, Ancestor, we..." Mahiya's voice grew heavier, now tinged with a killing intent.
Following the intentions of the Ancestor, what the Moon Spirits should do next would be to completely strangle them in their cradle before the Human Race could fully rise.
"Continue to maintain a friendly relationship with them," the Ancestor of the Moon Spirit said indifferently.
"Eh?" Mahiya was stunned.
Clearly, she hadn't expected the Ancestor, who just a second ago had regarded the Human Race as the greatest opponent, to now want her to maintain a friendly relationship with them...
What was the reasoning behind this?
"Just do it, Mahiya."
The Ancestor of the Moon Spirit didn't explain further, slightly lifting a hand and ending the communication.
On the other side, sensing the disconnection with the Ancestor, Mahiya slowly set down the gradually dimming Crystal Ball in her hand, her exquisite face half-hidden by the purple gauze still wearing a trace of confusion and aimlessness.
The command from the Ancestor left her baffled.
As the latest to assume the role of Main Priest among the higher echelons of the Moon Spirit Clan, Mahiya's qualifications were much lower than the other eight priests, and direct contact with the Ancestor was even rarer.
After hesitating for a moment, Mahiya once again activated the Crystal Ball.
This time, the connection wasn't with the Ancestor, but...
"Mahiya, what's wrong?"
A gentle voice sounded as blue light flickered from the other end of the Crystal Ball.
"Lord Clary," Mahiya's eyes held expectancy, "I just spoke with the Ancestor, but there are some issues I can't figure out..."
She slowly voiced her doubts, then awaited Clary's response.
"I see," Clary's voice carried a hint of a smile, "You want to know why the Ancestor views the Human Race as our greatest opponent yet asks us to maintain a friendly relationship with them?"
"Yes," Mahiya nodded slightly.
"Actually... I don't know either," Clary admitted candidly.
"Even you don't know, Lord Clary?" Mahiya was surprised.
"The Ancestor is the only one from the Moon Spirit Clan who has personally experienced the previous ten thousand years. What kind of turmoil occurred then, what circumstances arose, only the Ancestor knows," Clary spoke softly, "Many matters are taboo; speaking of them could possibly bring disaster."
"That's why there are many things the Ancestor never told us," Clary's voice held a touch of helplessness, "Perhaps only the Black Moon Chief Priest, who is closest to the Ancestor, knows."
"Black Moon Chief Priest..." A tinge of fear flickered in Mahiya's eyes.
That was the leader of the nine Chief Priests, and also the most mysterious of them all.
Among the nine Chief Priests, the other eight revealed their identities in the material world of the Moon Spirit Clan, building powerful forces with their own strength.
Only the earliest appearing Black Moon Chief Priest remained an enigma in the material world of the Moon Spirit Clan, never showing himself for thousands of years.
Even at meetings in the Heavenly Dome Rank, that individual shrouded his figure in darkness, making it impossible to discern who he truly was.
But there was no doubt about the Black Moon Chief Priest's strength among the other priests.
Because two thousand years ago, another Main Priest of the Second Rank in the Heavenly Dome Rank who challenged the Black Moon Chief Priest was slain with just one glance.
"Mahiya," Clary spoke softly, "To us, the truth is not important; following the Ancestor's will is enough."
"Yes," Mahiya nodded, pushing down the doubts in her heart.
Once again, the light from the Crystal Ball faded, and Mahiya slowly rose from within the secret chamber, opened the door, and stepped out, her face now wearing a gentle smile.
"Main Priest," Moon Spirit Clan attendants waiting quietly outside the chamber clasped their hands over their chests to form a crescent moon, the most revered gesture of the Moon Spirit Clan.
"It's getting late; we should start preparing for the Spirit Moon Festival," Mahiya spoke softly.
"Yes!" the attendants responded respectfully, following as Mahiya departed.
Elsewhere, Qin Chuan and Lin Yue, who had obtained the lordship of the White Flood Dragon Territory, didn't linger there for long. Following the route they had planned earlier, they left the White Flood Dragon Territory and arrived at a domain called the Gohn Territory.
After a brief exploration of the city, the two soon made a discovery.
"This domain's Lord belongs to the Moon Spirit Clan," Lin Yue said with some surprise, "And just now in the city, we saw many Moon Spirits."
"Hm," Qin Chuan nodded slightly.
The proportion of the Moon Spirit Clan in this domain seemed especially high among the six clans.
"Perhaps this place holds great importance for the Moon Spirit Clan."
"You're wrong, the Gohn Territory isn't an important place for us Moon Spirits at all~" A somewhat familiar voice sounded behind the two.
They turned around to see a small Moon Spirit Clan girl standing there, slightly chubby-faced with a hint of baby fat, her expression filled with surprise.
