Farming Games are All About Grinding -
Chapter 61: The 19th Level of the Mine
Chapter 61: Chapter 61: The 19th Level of the Mine
"Huff huff huff huff!"
"You’ve got to be kidding me, there’s still more?" Han Qiwu turned and ran toward the nearby tunnel, furiously swinging his pickaxe.
Just running into one group of these things is bad enough—why do they keep spawning?!
"Once I’m done with the feed storage, I’ll go upgrade this pickaxe and see if I can make it more effective." Han Qiwu thought to himself while looking at the cumbersome tool in his hands.
Thankfully, Han Qiwu managed to dig out the staircase to the next floor just before the Slimes arrived.
[You’ve reached Level 19 of the Mine]
[This level of the mine has been contaminated. You must eliminate all monsters to descend to the next floor.]
[Contaminated monsters carry lots of goodies. Good luck.]
As soon as he stepped out of the cable car, Han Qiwu was greeted by a bone-chilling howling sound, and the illumination range of his torch noticeably shrunk.
Han Qiwu: "??? You seriously just nerfed my torch, didn’t you?"
No worries—I’ve got plenty of torches to spare!
Standing at the center, Han Qiwu planted ten self-made torches in a circle with a diameter of ten paces around him.
When they’re homemade, you don’t feel bad about using them.
With the torches in place, the area lit up instantly, making Han Qiwu feel immensely satisfied.
Speaking of which, is this mine doing it on purpose? Floor 20 is just around the corner, where you can save at the cable car, and now suddenly there’s this nightmare difficulty combat floor on 19?
Han Qiwu closely examined his surroundings. Sure enough, the area was completely barren—no rocks, no amethyst deposits, no copper ore. Nothing.
Fine, let’s just fight then.
Gripping his enhanced Longsword tightly with both hands, Han Qiwu clenched his teeth. To be honest, after hours of swinging his sword today, his arms felt like they were going to fall off. He’d kill for a nap right now.
I wonder if Hu Qi’s teacher has arrived yet. My arms are definitely going to need some professional help later. Of course, that’s a problem for once I’m out of this mess.
"Squeak squeak squeak squeak!"
The first enemies to swoop in were stink bugs and roadblock bugs. Just from the sound alone, Han Qiwu could tell there were a lot of them. After waiting a bit, he counted at least five with just a glance.
What’s more, Han Qiwu noticed these bugs were noticeably larger than before, with their bodies sporting some discoloration.
So mutations are just size upgrades and a color swap, huh?
The Hulk approves and says this logic checks out.
Walk emoji speechless
Fortunately, just as Han Qiwu had guessed, the roadblock bugs started moving back and forth at a fixed point once they got to a certain range. Their job, it seemed, was purely to block his escape route.
The other ten or so stink bugs flew toward him and collectively raised their rear ends, preparing to release poisonous gas.
"What are you all doing? Don’t even think about pulling that shameless stunt!" Han Qiwu taunted as he swiftly tossed a poison sac to his side.
The insatiable stink bugs abandoned their poisonous plans and immediately swarmed toward the poison sac.
"Lucky I had one drop with a high rarity. Otherwise, who could put up with this many gross little butt-lifters?" Han Qiwu muttered as he swung his sword, aiming right at their wings.
"Whoosh!"
Behold! The joy of fire graces the world again!
A long trail of flames spread from the wings of the first stink bug to the last.
Han Qiwu: "?? Fire Man Jialuden?! Since when does your fire have splash damage built in?"
In no time, the stink bugs dropped from the air. To Han Qiwu’s surprise, even after losing their wings, they scrabbled desperately toward the poison sac.
Watching their desperate efforts pulled at Han Qiwu’s rarely-used heartstrings. Wielding his sword, he delivered them from their misery one by one.
"Off you go, no need to suffer here anymore."
[Contaminated Stink Bug Meat]
[Usage: Unknown]
[Sell Price: 0 Gold]
[Note: Only researchers of rare materials would be interested in this.]
"Why do I suddenly get a bad feeling about this?" Han Qiwu sighed in exasperation.
Judging from the current situation, these mutated materials have to be pretty scarce. But precisely because they’re rare, Han Qiwu had no idea how to actually use them right now.
No matter—when in doubt, hoard it.
Hoarding is crucial for farming games. Who knows when you’ll need something later?
After wiping out the stink bugs, Han Qiwu quickly disposed of the roadblock bugs before a second wave of monsters arrived. They dropped the same contaminated bug meat as the stink bugs.
"If only one of these drops could give me a mutated slime egg," Han Qiwu fantasized gleefully.
Once the bug army was defeated, the ground suddenly trembled.
Han Qiwu: "??? You’ve got to be kidding me—it’s not like this game’s mines can collapse now, right?"
Soon after, five cave rock crabs came charging out of a corner. Thanks to their notable heft, the ground quaked with their every step.
"You scared the hell out of me! So it’s just you guys." Han Qiwu let out a breath of relief.
But the imperious beasts were already barreling straight in his direction.
Without the Slime’s annoying slowing effect, Han Qiwu easily sidestepped their charge with a sharp right-angle maneuver.
Before they could stop and reposition, Han Qiwu whipped out his pickaxe and began hammering away at the rocky joints connecting their stone shells to their fleshy bodies.
"Clang! Clang! Clang!"
Drawing from experience, Han Qiwu focused his strikes on the weak points.
Grandpa Niu, grant me your strength! Lever principles for the win!
Of course, this Grandpa Niu isn’t the one from Digging Garden.
With the rocks pried off, the cave rock crabs became much easier to handle.
One swing, one crab.
"Wait a second—wasn’t it Archimedes who came up with the lever principle?" Han Qiwu paused mid-swing, realizing his mistake. "Grandpa Niu, my bad for bothering you."
After the little crabs turned into glimmers of white light and vanished, Han Qiwu eagerly went over to collect the loot.
"You better not just drop crab shells for me again."
[Contaminated Crab Shell]
[Usage: Unknown]
[Sell Price: 5 Gold]
[Note: Crab shells seem to enhance str※.]
Han Qiwu: "???? Who wrote this note? Get out here! What’s with the censored ’str’?"
Thankfully, after picking up a couple of contaminated crab shells, Han Qiwu got a delightful surprise.
[Grape Grenade]
[Usage: Place on the ground. Cannot be thrown.]
[Effect: Detonates, destroying all mineral nodes within a 4×4 area centered on itself. If there are cave creatures in the blast radius, the grenade will deal some damage to them.]
[Note: If one grenade doesn’t finish the job, use two!]
"Looks pretty good. Let’s try it out later." Han Qiwu twirled the grape grenade in his hand.
The grenade’s design really did mimic a bunch of grapes—a fist-sized main bomb connected to a cluster of round, smaller bombs.
Like magic, when you’re sleepy, a pillow appears.
From around the corner, ten Green Slimes bounced energetically toward Han Qiwu.
"Perfect!"
Han Qiwu charged at the Slimes, diving straight into the middle of the pack.
This group of Slimes didn’t even have time to start charging up their attacks.
"Hey, you clueless rookies, aren’t you even a little afraid of me?" Han Qiwu taunted as he pulled out the grape grenade and tossed it.
The grenade traced a graceful arc through the air... and landed squarely at Han Qiwu’s feet.
Han Qiwu: "F*** MY LIFE!"
"BOOM!"
