Chapter 50: Chapter 50 Lantern Festival Activities

Han Qiwu looked at another piece of parchment. On it was a notice.

[The Lantern Festival event will start tonight at 19:00 near the map location]

"Lantern Festival already?" Han Qiwu was a bit startled. He’d been so busy lately that he’d forgotten about the holiday altogether. He calculated the time—his parents should be up by now. Han Qiwu made a video call back home.

"Mom, Dad, Happy Lantern Festival," Han Qiwu said with a smile. In the video, Mrs. Han appeared to be making tangyuan, her hands covered with glutinous rice flour.

"Happy for your dad, busy for your mom," Mrs. Han replied grumpily. "Are you coming home today? If not, I’ll make less."

Ever since Han Qiwu could remember, Mrs. Han had always been the one to make tangyuan every Lantern Festival. She’d buy glutinous rice flour from the old shop—it always tasted so good, clean, and made tangyuan that were more delicious every time.

"I’m not coming back today. Don’t tire yourself out too much. I’ve just raised four chicks recently, they need someone to care for them. Aside from feeding, I also have to shut the coop door at night," Han Qiwu shook his head and said.

He definitely didn’t want to come back for a matchmaking arrangement.

Wouldn’t it be better to farm?

Wouldn’t participating in the Lantern Festival activity be more enjoyable?

"You rascal, you’re just worried about the matchmaking, aren’t you? Don’t trust your mom’s taste?" Mrs. Han puffed up in anger.

Meanwhile, Mr. Han seemed intrigued, leaning toward the camera with a curious look as he asked, "Son, where are the chickens you’ve raised? Let me see."

"Hold on, I’ll bring two of them inside," Han Qiwu set down his phone, glanced at where the chicks were, and quickly went over to gently scoop up a green free-range chicken and a broiler chicken in his hands.

"A free-range chicken and a broiler? They do look pretty good. But who knows how the meat would taste—are they fed on grain or free-roaming?" Mr. Han, who used to teach in the countryside, could tell the breed with just a glance at their beaks and claws.

"I’m raising three laying hens and one broiler chicken. They’re still too young, so I’m feeding them grain for now. When they grow a bit more, I’ll let them forage on their own," Han Qiwu said proudly. "Mom, when they’re ready to eat, I’ll save two big drumsticks for you!"

"Well, thank you so much. My son has grown up, knows how to sweet-talk his mom with chicks," Mrs. Han said with a pout, clearly a bit annoyed with Han Qiwu.

Mr. Han waved his hand, "No need, no need. How much meat can one chicken even have? If both drumsticks are for your mom..."

At that point, Mrs. Han had already grabbed a wad of glutinous rice flour and smiled sweetly at Mr. Han.

"Why don’t you give us the entire chicken to eat? You can just raise a few more. Later, your dad will transfer you some money!" Mr. Han quickly braked midway and changed his statement.

Han Qiwu chuckled, "Don’t worry. I’ll go buy a few more later. Once they’re ready, I’ll slaughter them and mail them to you. I haven’t eaten yet, I’m going to grab food now."

"Eat more!" Mrs. Han’s parting words were always the same.

After hanging up the call, Han Qiwu felt warm inside.

But his stomach was empty.

So hungry.

All morning he had been busy with the four chicks. They had eaten their fill, but Han Qiwu hadn’t had a bite.

After putting the green free-range chicken and broiler chicken back in their place, Han Qiwu returned to his room and cooked some noodles. Once he’d eaten his fill, he casually turned on the TV.

[Weather Forecast]

Tomorrow will be good weather.

[Life Tips]

Here’s a piece of advice: Before joining festival activities, make sure to bring plenty of money—the more, the better.

[The Almanac]

Good for forging, avoid quarrels.

[Shennong Recipes]

Shennong is resting.

"Plenty of money, huh? I’ve only got a few dozen gold coins left." Han Qiwu felt a bit helpless. If he’d known earlier, he wouldn’t have bought so much feed.

But he thought of a solution. Transactions at the trading point were settled in real-time, so at worst, he’d just spend the whole day fishing and selling.

Still, it was the first time the almanac had shown a "Good for forging" prompt. It would feel like a waste not to visit the smithy.

Conflicted, Han Qiwu opened the map. The Lantern Festival activity was happening by the river north of the smithy. Nearby, there was also a large expanse of farmland.

Who knows what kind of event would be held here?

"Alright, after heading out, I’ll fish first, then go to the smithy to learn forging, and finally join the evening event." Han Qiwu said to himself while watering his plants, planning everything out.

Once he’d finished watering, Han Qiwu began organizing his inventory.

Yesterday’s mining had been very fruitful.

[Stone] ×14

[Copper Ore] ×7

[Amethyst] ×3

[Cave Rat Meat] ×5

"Counting the three copper ores from before, I now have ten pieces of copper ore. I can finally try the furnace." Han Qiwu walked over to the furnace.

[Smelting Copper Ingots: Copper Ore (10/5), Coal (1/1)]

[Start Smelting?]

"Yes."

[Smelting will take five hours.]

"Boom rumble rumble."

The furnace successfully fired up.

Han Qiwu noticed a minor issue—while he had enough copper ore, he hadn’t come across any coal. Next time he’s mining, he’ll have to be on the lookout.

After handling the copper ore, Han Qiwu turned the [Cave Rat Meat] into fishing bait.

Of course, the messy work of making bloody bait was done by the system.

While waiting for the bait to finish, Han Qiwu found his pre-packaged [Enhanced Longsword].

Just comparing its attributes, Han Qiwu already knew he’d never want to use the [Rusty Sword] again.

Carefully peeling off the packaging on the [Enhanced Longsword], Han Qiwu gently cleaned it and placed it into his inventory.

As for the [Rusty Sword], he simply hung it in the corner of the yard, leaving it to weather the wind and rain.

Reflect on yourself! You don’t even have magic that causes tetanus damage—how dare you call yourself a rusted sword!

[Rusty Sword]: "...Heh, man, you’re just lusting after the longsword’s shiny body, aren’t you."

A few minutes later.

Five pieces of cave rat meat had been turned into fifteen pieces of bait—a decent yield.

[Fresh Fishing Bait (Rat Meat Edition)]

[Features: Increases fishing time, boosts catch rate for some fish species]

With the bait, some liquor, beef buns, and dried raspberries, Han Qiwu set off!

Riding his little motorbike, Han Qiwu headed straight to the seaside to fish, skipping the search for food today.

On his way through town, he noticed that many houses had lanterns hanging at their doors. The festive atmosphere was thick.

"Xiao Han!"

Han Qiwu heard someone calling him and immediately stopped to look back.

It turned out to be Grandpa Chen.

"Are you going to steal vegetables tonight? If you sneak some, come to my place and cook them—we’ll celebrate together," Grandpa Chen said with a grin.

Han Qiwu was utterly confused. Steal vegetables?

How could someone openly encourage stealing vegetables?

Does Grandpa Chen play QQ Farm too?

"What stealing vegetables?" Han Qiwu asked, clueless.

"Don’t know yet? Never mind. Tonight, head over to the barley fields, and you’ll understand," Grandpa Chen chuckled and walked off.

Han Qiwu pulled up his map and studied the terrain—the event location seemed to be at the barley fields.

"Well, no point wasting time now over something I’ll find out tonight. Time for fishing." Han Qiwu revved up and headed for the seaside.

At the seashore, Han Qiwu attached the freshly made bait to his [Copper Knife].

I’m going to be the King of the Sea!
