Chapter 95: Chapter 95 Climbing Relations(2)_1
Zhenzhen retorted, "But they can’t just grab things. If Zhenzhen sees a toy she likes, she wouldn’t snatch it."
"Mhmm, Zhenzhen is a good child," Mo Yan patted her head approvingly, then shifted the conversation, "But not everyone is like you, knowing they shouldn’t take what isn’t theirs! If you can’t protect your treasures, you better not show them off."
Zhenzhen nodded as if she understood but then she said worriedly, "So now the toy has been taken by them, how can Zhenzhen get it back?"
Mo Yan glanced at her and decided to test her, "You lost the thing yourself, figure out how to get it back on your own. Remember, no fighting!"
As soon as Zhenzhen heard this, her shoulders slumped, and she left dejectedly, opening the door to go out.
Mo Yan shook her head, lifted the lid off the pot, and started stirring the dumplings boiling inside.
With forty-three guests including adults and children who had come to pay a New Year’s visit, Mo Yan cooked all of the three hundred-plus dumplings that were left from yesterday. She served them in large and small bowls to make sure there was enough for everyone. Thanks to the sizeable dumplings, filling everyone’s stomachs wasn’t an issue.
Still, there was a bit of friction at mealtime. These little rascals had tasted some meat over the New Year, and Mo Yan’s dumplings were generously stuffed with it, making them exceptionally tasty. Even though they were full, they still wanted more and made a fuss with their parents.
The ones with thinner skin gave their own share of dumplings to their children, while those with thicker skin asked Mo Yan directly for more.
Xin Er didn’t care much for the people of Mo Family Village and wouldn’t have wanted to give them dumplings if she could choose. So she took the noisy kids to the kitchen and pointed at the cutting board where the dumplings were placed, saying, "Look, they’re all eaten by you; I haven’t even had mine yet!"
A few kids sheepishly exited the kitchen and stopped making a fuss, and the adults felt embarrassed and scolded their children for being "thoughtless."
After they finished the dumplings, Zhang Dayou and his group of a dozen said goodbye to the Mo Family and hurried back home. During the New Year festivities, the greenhouses needed tending, filling the carts with water, and they couldn’t be left unattended.
Once they were gone, only those with the surname Mo remained in the house. Perhaps feeling more at ease amongst family, they felt they could speak more openly.
MoFang, who had recently been elected as the Clan Leader of the Mo Clan in Liu Yang Village, organized his thoughts and then patted Mo Qingze’s shoulder, saying, "Qingze, even though we’ll all be settling in Liu Yang Village, we cannot forget our roots in the Mo Family!"
Mo Qingze nodded in agreement; no matter where one goes, one must never forget their origins or their roots.
Seeing this reaction, MoFang was delighted, thinking the purpose of his visit might very well be achieved. His smile grew broader, and he praised generously, "I knew Qingze would do the right thing, unlike those who have risen in status and no longer recognize their ancestors."
Mo Qingze humbly smiled and said a few modest words, but Mo Yan became alert, feeling that the Clan Leader’s words carried an underlying message!
Indeed, MoFang, with a pained expression, continued, "When we first fled Mo Family Village, we intended to go to Yongcheng, but halfway there, we heard it was impossible to enter, so we took a detour towards Jing City instead. It’s just that the journey was too long, and many of the elderly and children could not make it here."
After a pause, MoFang went on, "After the war ended, except for those with plenty of farmland who wanted to return, the rest stayed behind and were distributed to various resettlement sites. Our dozen or so families were assigned to Liu Yang Village, and from now on, we will be a branch of the Mo Clan."
At this point, MoFang became very passionate, "We several families discussed it before the New Year’s Eve, and decided to build an ancestral hall in Liu Yang Village. Firstly, we cannot let our ancestors go unattended under the ground; secondly, we hope that if our ancestors have spirits, they will bless this branch of ours; and thirdly, it’s also for establishing a foundational root for our Mo Clan."
