Chapter 701: Chapter 701: The Father Who Traps His Daughter Met His Son-in-law (2)_1
Mo Qingze nodded with a smile, his eyes full of indulgence for his daughter.
The father and daughter together scoured the almanac to pick an auspicious day, finding only the twenty-second, twenty-sixth, and twenty-eighth left in the month. After discussing, they finally settled on the twenty-eighth of October, which coincided with Zhenzhen and Yun Zhao’s ten-day break.
At dinner, Mo Yan brought out a jug of wine that wasn’t very old and poured a glass for everyone, even for the youngest Shengsheng, who got half a glass. The family gathered around the table for a lively meal.
Perhaps it was the fulfillment of many years’ dreams, Mo Qingze seemed to be in a great mood. He finished one glass and felt it wasn’t enough, pouring himself several more glasses, although he ate very little.
"Dad, you can’t drink anymore, you’ll feel unwell!" Mo Yan resolutely stopped her father from drinking after he finished his eighth glass and was about to pour his ninth, even taking the wine jug away.
The wine from "Space" wasn’t harmful to the body, but too much would result in a long sleep and a hangover with discomfort upon waking. She wouldn’t let her father suffer this!
Mo Qingze tried to find the wine jug, but by now, he was quite dizzy, and he felt nauseous. He frowned but didn’t persist, instead picking up the chopsticks on the table to try to grasp a steamed meatball from the dish.
After several attempts, the slightly shaking chopsticks failed to secure the meatball. In a huff, he slapped the chopsticks down on the table, muttering, "I’m not eating this, it’s too horrible!"
Everyone was stunned by Mo Qingze’s childish behavior and, upon recovering from the shock, couldn’t help but cover their mouths and snicker.
With the corners of her eyes twitching, Mo Yan watched her father, who suddenly seemed to have regressed dozens of years in age, and stood up helplessly, reached for the chopsticks to pick up his favorite dishes, and fed him bite by bite.
Without some food to absorb the alcohol, the night would only get worse!
At this time, Mo Qingze was clearly drunk beyond awareness of what he was doing. He obediently opened his mouth like a child waiting to be fed. Fortunately, he was deeply intoxicated and wouldn’t remember tonight’s events once he sobered up the next morning, otherwise, he didn’t know how embarrassed he would be.
After being fed a good amount of food, Mo Yan prepared a bowl of rice crust soup to nourish the stomach and proceeded to feed her father slowly with a spoon. Mo Qingze ate several bites but couldn’t resist the waves of drowsiness assailing him. Before finishing the bowl, he collapsed onto the table and fell asleep.
Having no choice, Mo Yan set down the bowl and, together with Xin Er, helped her father back to his room.
The sisters struggled to remove their father’s coat to make him more comfortable. Mo Yan then fetched some warm water to wash his face. Just as the cloth touched his face, Mo Qingze abruptly opened his eyes, gripped her wrist tightly, and said with an unusually lucid look, "Yanyan, don’t be afraid. Dad will protect you. I won’t let anyone harm you!"
Mo Yan was taken aback and suddenly recalled the things her father had said in his sleep when she brought him home that day, feeling a sudden surge of foreboding.
She composed herself and probed further, "Dad, are you hiding something from your daughter?"
Mo Qingze stared at his eldest daughter, apparently not quite understanding what she meant.
Just as Mo Yan was about to ask again, her wrist was abruptly released, and she saw her father’s initially clear eyes cloud over before he slumped to one side and fell back asleep.
Despite having many doubts in her heart, seeing this, Mo Yan couldn’t help but feel a mix of laughter and tears. She shook her head, covered her father with a blanket, and, heavy with thoughts, walked with Xin Er back toward the front courtyard.
Along the way, Xin Er, unaware of her sister’s thoughts, spoke cheerfully, "I never expected Dad to have such a childish side. We must tell him about it when he wakes up, haha!"
