Chapter 664: Chapter 664: The Cause and Consequence of the Five Beasts’ Fury (1)_1
Seeing how her master embarrassed her in front of all the "minions", Xue tuanzi concluded that her master must love those dumb beasts more and couldn’t help feeling deeply depressed. The two antennae on her head drooped listlessly, and her normally shiny black eyes also became dull and lifeless.
Noticing Xue tuanzi’s negative mood, Mo Yan was quite helpless. This creature, despite living for so many years, still had the temperament of a child. Luckily, it was easy to placate, otherwise, Mo Yan would really have a headache.
What urgently needed to be addressed were the bandits; Mo Yan planned to properly console her small pet with a fragile heart after everything was settled. Looking at the bandits who were still drinking and eating meat, loudly carousing, she wondered how they had come to know about her family’s situation.
Liu Yang Village was only forty miles from Jing City, practically under the Emperor’s nose. Even the boldest of bandits wouldn’t dare to make trouble here. Yet, these bandits had come right to them, clamoring to wipe out her family.
Moreover, neither she nor the villagers had heard about bandits in the vicinity, nor had there been any robberies or violent incidents. Clearly, this group of bandits had come from elsewhere.
However, their coming from elsewhere but knowing everything about her family suggested that it might be someone with a grudge against her family stirring up trouble, hiring these bandits for retribution.
Her father was studying at the Academy and, as far as she knew, had not offended anyone. Her two younger brothers were on good terms with their classmates at school, making it even less likely for them to have offended anyone. It was she who had offended a few people, all of significant status, any of whom might target her family. For the time being, she couldn’t be sure who the true mastermind was.
Xue tuanzi’s depressed mood lifted as quickly as it came. Seeing her master frowning, a quick glance betrayed her thoughts. Seizing a chance for rebuttal, Xue tuanzi sarcastically remarked, "Yanyan is so dense. Just wait for the five beasts to subdue those bandits, and you can ask them who wants to harm your family, can’t you?"
Reminded by Xue tuanzi, Mo Yan smacked her forehead, annoyed, "Yes, this is such a simple matter, how did I not think of that!"
"Hmph, dumb ones usually are like this, nothing can be done about it!" Xue tuanzi finally regained some ground, hummed in satisfaction, the disdain in its voice unmistakable.
Mo Yan became so frustrated her teeth itched. If she could enter the Space now, she would definitely grab this venomous-tongued creature and throw it into the Spirit Spring Pond for a proper bath.
Wishing to press her advantage and further demoralize her master, Xue tuanzi perceived her master’s intention and was promptly scared silent, her deep black eyes filling with intense fear.
Who could have imagined that this formidable and proud creature would be afraid of water!
Mo Yan smiled triumphantly. The little rascal, to think she, as the master, would be easy to bully?
At the foot of the mountain, fifty bandits surrounded two bonfires, deep into their drinks. A short, scrawny fellow with a pointed chin and monkey-like cheeks staggered over to another fire with a bowl of wine, plopping himself down next to another man with a scarred face, who was morosely drinking.
Pointed Chin touched his wine bowl to Scar face’s, gulping down his own bowl of wine in one go, his face flushed red and tongue slurred as he said, "Boss, when do we make our move? I say, let’s strike in the dead of night, take out the family of that wench, and then tie up that little minx and all the women in her family, bring them back to our camp, so the brothers can have a good time, hehehe!"
Upon hearing this, Scar face’s long scar twisted as he violently smashed his wine bowl to the ground, shattering it with a crack, and bellowed at Pointed Chin, "Shut up!"
This crash and shout not only jolted Pointed Chin from his drunken stupor but also startled the other bandits engaged in their drinking contest. They all turned to look, their faces a picture of confusion.
