Chapter 62: Chapter 62 Joyful Harvest (1)_1

The next day, Mo Wu arrived early at the Mo Family home to pick up the two children to take them back to Liu Yang Village. Seeing the children in their brand new cotton clothes, both stylish and warm, it was clear she had put a lot of thought into them.

"Yan girl, Auntie really doesn’t know how to thank you enough!"

Mo Wu held Mo Yan’s hand gratefully, her eyes brimming with tears. The children had never worn such nice clothes as they had grown up.

"Look what you’re saying, Auntie. San Ni and Shitou are my brother and sister too. Why would you need to thank me for that?" Mo Yan smiled helplessly and patted Shitou’s little head. "San Ni and Shitou are well-behaved and sensible. We all like them very much. If you hadn’t insisted on taking them back, I would’ve liked to have them stay a bit longer!"

Mo Wu waved her hands continuously, "We’ve troubled your family long enough. The children have been eating and drinking here for nearly half a month. If we stay any longer, I wouldn’t have the face to enter your home again."

Hearing her say this, Mo Yan didn’t insist further, to avoid the villagers of Liu Yang speaking ill of the Countess Mother.

Mo Yan wanted them to stay for lunch before leaving, but Mo Wu absolutely refused. Mo Yan had no choice but to forcefully stuff two envelopes of pastries into her hand, telling her to sneak them back for her eldest son and daughter at home. This moved Mo Wu to tears once again.

The two little ones were very reluctant to leave their cousins, their eyes red-rimmed. Though they were mature enough not to cry out loud, it was painfully evident to Mo Yan and the others, and Mo Yan found herself wanting to let them stay a while longer.

"Sis, San Ni and Shitou are so pitiful. They can’t even get enough to eat at home, and the second grandmother often beats San Ni and scolds her as a money-losing commodity."

Watching the departing donkey cart, Xin Er’s eyes were red with distress.

Back in Mo Family Village, because of Mo Hong’s family, Xin Er hadn’t been close with San Ni. But over the past ten days, she had come to see San Ni almost as her own sister.

"Yeah, Big Sis, Shitou had never even tasted candied haws before, nor had sugar figurines to play with," Zhenzhen added.

Zhenzhen didn’t cry, but her mood was quite downcast.

"No worries. When we move to Liu Yang Village, you two can invite them to play at our home. Share your food and toys, and they will have them too, won’t they?" Mo Yan said softly, comforting them. The two seemed to have forgotten the days when they, too, were hungry and cold, without candied haws. But having a kind heart is always good, isn’t it?

Cheered by their sister’s words, the siblings began to look forward to the days when they would move to Yang Liu Village.

...

In the following days, Mo Qingze continued to visit Liu Yang Village every day. Fortunately, within a couple of days, all the seedlings sprouted and did so very evenly, with virtually no loss, which greatly surprised the old farmers who were responsible for the greenhouse.

"Haha, Uncle Zhong, you don’t know how anxious I’ve been these days. Now that it’s over, I can finally sleep peacefully!"

In the evening, as Mo Qingze returned home, his earlier worries swept away, he happily shared the good news with Lizhong, who had just come back.

"As long as there are sprouts, the vegetables will eventually grow," said Lizhong, setting aside his worries with a joke. "If I hadn’t been delayed by other matters, I would have cleared my ten acres of wasteland to grow vegetables with you."

At those words, the smile slowly faded from Mo Qingze’s face. After a long silence, he hesitantly said, "Uncle Zhong, still no news of Xiu Er?"

The smile also left Lizhong’s face, and ultimately, he sighed deeply, "An old friend helped me find some information. Someone in North Market claims to have seen a woman very similar to Xiu Er, but it’s still not confirmed. I plan to go to North Market again to look for her."

North Market?

Mo Qingze frowned, thinking. He had been in Jing City for quite some time and had come to understand its layout to some extent.
