Farm Girl's Manor
Chapter 60 Another Incident (2)_1

Chapter 60: Chapter 60 Another Incident (2)_1

The onlooking villagers gathered to watch the commotion swelled in number, while Mo Qingze, his face betraying no expectation of this, stared at the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law pair putting on a play. He very much wanted to sweep away but, as the other party was his elder, he could only patiently explain:

"Second Aunt, it’s not that your nephew won’t agree, it’s just that the rented place is too small. With these people, there wouldn’t even be space to sleep. With the cold and freezing weather, we can’t possibly have my cousin and niece sleep on the floor!"

Upon hearing this, Mo Hong’s family, without a second thought, said, "It’s just two more people. In such cold weather, it’ll be warmer to squeeze together! If it’s really too crowded, then just go rent another room, and that’ll be the end of it."

Mo Niu’s also nodded vehemently in agreement, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law duo not feeling the slightest bit that their request was excessive!

"Bah, having their own place to live, yet still wanting to take advantage of relatives, I’ve never seen such shameless behavior."

"Exactly, causing such a ruckus a few days ago, and now still having the face to bring this up, getting stuck with relatives like these truly is bad luck accumulated over eight lifetimes."

"Where has Mr. Mo not taken care of his relatives? I just saw with my own eyes Miss Mo taking her removed cousin to the city for medical treatment, and now she’s keeping her cousin here to look after him personally, not even treating her own brother any differently."

...

Seeing how shameless this mother-in-law and daughter-in-law pair were, the villagers watching the excitement also showed faces full of disdain.

Hearing these comments, Mo Wu, leading San Ni, was so ashamed she wished she could burrow into the ground. If she had insisted on not bringing the children back, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law would have no excuse to make things difficult for the uncle.

Already fourteen-years-old, Mo Yongxi, having been a late childbirth, was thoroughly spoiled by Old Man Mo and Mo Hong’s family. Upon hearing from Mo Hong’s family that her cousin’s household was doing well, living a life of luxury every day, and wanting her to share in the benefits, she readily agreed without a second thought. Already dissatisfied with her cousin repeatedly refusing, now after hearing the villagers’ comments, she exploded and pointed at Mo Qingze to curse:

"What kind of damn cousin are you? If you had any conscience, you’d let those lowlifes in your house roll onto the floor to sleep and vacate the beds for us."

"Slap!"

Old Man Mo had just arrived when he heard his youngest daughter’s words, feeling a sudden dizziness, he slapped her face hard and bellowed, "Shut your mouth, is that something a young lady should say? Apologize to your cousin this instant!"

Calling someone a "lowlife" straight to their face and showing disrespect towards her cousin. If word of this were to spread, who would dare to come asking for her hand in marriage, who would want to marry such a daughter-in-law devoid of female virtue?

Unfortunately, Mo Yongxi failed to appreciate Old Man Mo’s well-intentioned scolding. Holding her swollen face, she collapsed to the ground with a "wah" and burst into tears, kicking her legs and refusing to relent, "Their mother ran off shamelessly with some man. If they’re not lowlifes, what are they? They’re the lowlifes raised without a mother!"

Old Man Mo was about to be driven mad by this foolish daughter. Seeing his nephew staring coldly at his daughter, in the moment he cared not for his heartache, he stepped forward and slapped her twice more, "You’re too thoughtless - get up and apologize to your cousin right now!"

After speaking, he forced a smile at Mo Qingze, "Qingze, your little cousin is still young and doesn’t understand things, don’t stoop to her level!"

Before Mo Qingze had a chance to speak, Mo Hong’s family, seeing her darling daughter harshly beaten, rushed up with a "howl" and started fighting with Old Man Mo, "You useless old man, how dare you collude with outsiders to bully me and my daughter, I’ll fight you to the death!"

The onlooking villagers were dumbfounded, as no one expected the situation to swivel so swiftly into this scene.

Mo Qingze watched this farce unfold with a frosty gaze, his whole being as if enveloped in a layer of frost, showing no intention of stepping forward to intervene.

Mo Yongxi sat on the ground, loudly clamoring for Mrs. Hong to take revenge for her. He had to hold back a great deal not to go forward and kick her again. If his second uncle hadn’t already taken action, he would not have let this heartless cousin off easily just for those few words she cursed at his children.

...

In the evening, Mo Qingze returned with San Ni. Although he tried to hide it, Mo Yan could still perceive that something was amiss.

"Dad, what’s wrong with you?"

Mo Qingze touched his daughter’s head and forced a smile, shaking his head, "Dad’s fine, just a bit tired, I’ll be okay after some rest."

Seeing her father unwilling to talk about it, Mo Yan did not pry further. Glancing at the timid San Ni, she couldn’t help but wonder if Mrs. Hong had caused more trouble.

During dinner, Mo Qingze had little appetite. After eating only half a bowl, he excused himself saying he had eaten too much at noon and went back to his room.

San Ni held a bowl of white rice, looking timidly as her uncle went into the room. She didn’t dare to pick more dishes from the table. It was only after Mo Yan started serving her food that she whispered her thanks and carefully began eating.

With two more children in the house, when it came to bedtime, Mo Qingze and Lizhong had to sleep on the east bed in the large room, Xin’er Zhen’er and Liyan slept on the west bed, and Mo Yan took San Ni and Little Stone to sleep with her in the small room. Thankfully, the beds were quite large, and it was winter, so it wasn’t cramped.

Once Little Stone fell asleep, Mo Yan finally asked San Ni about what happened in Liu Yang Village.

San Ni quietly recounted everything from beginning to end, carefully omitting the harsh words her aunt had said, out of concern that her cousin would be upset.

Mo Yan hadn’t expected that her guess about the situation would be correct. She was so exasperated with Mrs. Hong at the moment that she didn’t even have the heart to complain. Both in her past life and now, she had never met such a brazen and shameless person!

"Cousin, Mom said the incident was her fault. She asked San Ni to tell you ’sorry.’ She’s caused a lot of trouble for your family."

Lying in the warm bed, San Ni, with her face all red, held her little brother’s hand and spoke her apology.

When she had seen her grandmother and second mother’s behavior, she wished she could take her mom to the city right away and take her brother back home to avoid troubling her uncle’s family.

"San Ni, this isn’t your mother’s fault, and where is the need to apologize to me? Don’t overthink it. Just stay here with Little Stone, and when you want to go back home, you can," Mo Yan replied.

Mo Yan was indeed furious and also blamed herself for not being thoughtful enough, which provided Mrs. Hong and her family with an excuse to cause trouble. She had even thought about helping her aunt if there was a chance in the future, but with the way things were, that was no longer feasible. Mrs. Hong was like a blood-sucking locust—she couldn’t afford to get involved with her at all.

Upon hearing this, San Ni felt the heavy burden in her heart finally settle down. She had truly worried that her cousin might blame them!

Once everything was out in the open, San Ni grew much more affectionate toward Mo Yan, chattering about various small matters. Eventually, she couldn’t resist the urge to sleep any longer and fell into a deep slumber, tightly next to her brother.

Mo Yan lay quietly, listening to the siblings’ prolonged breathing, her eyes gleaming in the darkness. She knew there were things San Ni was keeping from her, otherwise, her father wouldn’t have reacted to Mrs. Hong’s commotion this way.

In this life, she had come to see her father and younger siblings as her dearest family. She wouldn’t provoke others willingly, but if someone dared to hurt those she cared about, she would not easily forgive. She had thought before that as long as the people from Lao Mo’s House didn’t provoke them, she wouldn’t bother with them. But now, it seemed that ignoring them was no longer an option...
