Chapter 538: Chapter 538: Unexpected Trouble (3)_1

Having spoken, the Shopkeeper whispered to Wu’s, "Lady, it’s not that I’m a snob, but Lin Mansion is too powerful for us commoners to provoke. If you don’t want any trouble, it would be better to give those two bolts of cloth to that girl. Pick another two, and I’ll make them cheaper for you."

Wu’s didn’t know why Lin Mansion was so untouchable, but upon hearing the Shopkeeper’s words, she instinctively felt he wouldn’t lie to her. Thinking it’s better to avoid extra trouble, she nodded and said, "Then forget it, I’ll look at some other fabric..."

"No way!" Before Wu’s finished speaking, Mo Yan, who had been quiet until now, interrupted her, coldly addressing the girl who looked smug, "Those two bolts of cloth were the ones we liked first. If you wanted them and had asked nicely, perhaps it wouldn’t have been a problem to let you have them. Unfortunately... all I hear is a dog barking!"

After finishing her statement, she cast a meaningful glance at the person hiding behind the girl, who had been silently bowing her head the whole time, curious if this person was the instigator.

She had no desire to cause trouble or argue with others, but clearly, someone else didn’t see it that way. Being pointed at and insulted without any response wasn’t in her nature!

The girl, called a dog, became so angry her nose looked crooked as she pointed at Mo Yan and cursed, "You lowlife, how dare you call me a dog! Looks like you’re tired of living!"

Mo Yan sneered and spread her hands in feigned helplessness, "I merely said a dog is barking; I didn’t say the dog is you! It’s not my fault you took it upon yourself to assume I meant you."

Hearing this, the girl was practically beside herself with rage but couldn’t find any words to retort. In her urgency, she yanked her companion from behind and said through gritted teeth, "Qing Mu, go... go and tear that wretch’s mouth for me!"

The girl called Qing Mu obviously hadn’t expected to be suddenly pulled out like this and was too late to avoid it, her still delicate face unexpectedly revealed to everyone present.

"Erni? Are you Erni?" Wu’s was the first to exclaim. She took a couple of steps forward, staring intently at the silent woman, and asked with some uncertainty.

Upon hearing this, everyone else turned their gazes in that direction, and when they recognized the familiar features, they cried out in shock, just like Wu’s.

Seeing this, the woman looked around in a panic, first at Wu’s and the others, then at the person she considered her follower, and asked with an ugly expression, "Qing Mu, do you know these lowlifes?"

Qing Mu quickly shook her head, pleadingly explaining, "What are you talking about, Sister Qiuyue? How could I possibly know these worthless people?"

Qiuyue eyed her skeptically, not fully convinced, "You really don’t know them? Then why did you encourage me to get these two bolts of cloth? Could it be you harbored a grudge against them and acted out of spite?"

Having her thoughts so openly voiced, Qing Mu’s face stiffened, a flash of fear in her eyes, before she pretended to be on the brink of tears, "Sister Qiuyue, it’s the truth! All I did was think those two bolts of cloth were pretty and would compliment your beauty, so I wanted you to have them. I never expected... I never expected that it would lead to a misunderstanding..."

Qiuyue, flattered, and seeing Qing Mu seemed genuine, let the small suspicion in her heart disappear and commanded imperiously, "It’s simple if you don’t know them. Go on, go and tear that wretch’s mouth for me. If you handle this matter well, I’ll speak well of you to the young lady."

Upon hearing this, Qing Mu concealed the joy in her eyes and quickly said, "Helping you is what I should do, Sister Qiuyue. I wouldn’t dream of troubling you with such things. I will now seek justice for you!"

With that, she really did stretch out her hand, sharp nails at the ready, and lunged quickly toward Mo Yan, her eyes brimming with intense hatred.

"Erni, stop it right this minute! What are you doing?" Wu’s, shocked and pale, rushed toward Qing Mu without hesitation, trying to stop her.

Xinger Danier, Lixiu’s nephew, and the others also came to their senses and hurried forward to help, successfully intercepting Qing Mu.

Seeing Qing Mu’s familiar face and the unabashed hatred on her countenance, they finally understood; the girl known as Qing Mu was the same Erni they once knew. She harbored hatred against them, which had led her to incite Qiuyue to trouble them.

Unable to break free and realizing she couldn’t seek revenge today, Qing Mu glared venomously at Mo Yan and spat out a threat, "Hmph, you think just because you stopped me, you’re out of danger? If the Lin Mansion’s young lady finds out her people were bullied by a bunch of country bumpkins, she definitely won’t let you off the hook!"
