Chapter 492: Chapter 492: Nearly a Ginseng Spirit (2)_1
The piercing pain made Mo Yan unconsciously furrow her brow as she struggled to get up from the ground. Seeing the blood bubbling out of the back of her hand, she quickly summoned Spirit Spring Water to cleanse the wound.
Before the bloodstains were completely washed away, she caught only a glimpse of a blur before a dark shadow pounced at her like lightning. Before she could react, her right index finger, which was releasing Spirit Spring Water, was enveloped in warmth.
Mo Yan stared with full exasperation at the beast unapologetically gulping down the Spirit Spring Water, a sense of mistakenly becoming a wet nurse for the creature overwhelmed her! O(╯□╰)o
The Black Cloud Leopard didn’t care how she felt, greedily drinking the Spiritual Energy-rich Spirit Spring Water while clasping her finger. It had grown tired of those ’herbs’ over the past few hundred years since it gained Spiritual Wisdom. Had it not been for the lack of an alternative food source, it would have razed that distasteful ’herb’ patch clean long ago. Little did it expect to find a human carrying Spirit Water and resolved to drink its fill.
Driven by strong protective and possessive instincts, Mao Tuan couldn’t stand to see its master ’touched’ by another beast. Forgetting that it stood no chance against the Black Cloud Leopard, it let out a low growl and lunged forward to drive it away, only to be firmly held back by Little Flower, warning it not to act rashly.
The Black Cloud Leopard drank for a good while, until its previously somewhat flattened belly became round and bulging like a ball, before it finally let go of Mo Yan’s finger, satisfied. It smacked its lips as if savoring the taste, licking clean the remnants of Spirit Spring Water around its mouth.
Mo Yan, feeling conflicted, glanced at her still bleeding hand back and then at her shiny, saliva-coated index finger. Eventually, while the Black Cloud Leopard wasn’t looking, she stealthily channeled more Spirit Spring Water to cleanse her finger before continuing to rinse her hand.
The Black Cloud Leopard, as if unaware of her subtle actions, flicked its tail and walked away. Anyway, now that it had encountered this flavourful and Spiritual Energy-filled Spirit Water, it resolved not to let it go and considered this sufficient to forgive the human’s impertinence!
After treating her wound simply, Mo Yan approached where the Black Cloud Leopard had been and began searching for signs of Ginseng with wide eyes but found nothing.
Finally, under the impatient guidance of the Black Cloud Leopard, she discovered two Ginseng plants tucked beneath two large boulders, far older than any she had seen before!
Mo Yan’s face lit up with excitement at the sight of the lush green Ginseng plants, finding the small red flowers blooming on them especially charming. Although she wasn’t certain how old these two Ginseng plants were, she had a hunch they were the oldest in the entire Yuhua Mountain.
She did not let the tremendous surprise cloud her judgement. After slapping her own face to calm down, she began to bargain with the Black Cloud Leopard.
Unfortunately for the two, a communicative barrier existed as they shared no common language. Mo Yan guessed and speculated, expending considerable effort before she could roughly understand the Black Cloud Leopard’s demands.
Apart from a palm-sized piece of Black Lingzhi, the Black Cloud Leopard required a daily amount of Spirit Spring Water equal to what it drank today. The two Ginseng plants could be taken by her, but one of them had to be planted in the Space to grow for its own use. As for the Ginseng patch she saw earlier, she could dig it all up, but had to leave half for it.
The exchange terms posed by the Black Cloud Leopard were reasonable. Mo Yan did not hesitate long before agreeing. After she took out a spade and carefully dug out the two human-shaped Ginseng plants, the thought of regret didn’t cross her mind.
Each Ginseng plant was as thick as Mo Yan’s arm, with side roots as thick as thumbs resembling hands, the bottom splitting into a pair of leg-like rootstalks over two feet long. Even the tops vaguely bore the semblance of facial features, looking upon close inspection like two children with eyes closed.
Mo Yan had heard tales of Ginseng transforming into spirits, and as she looked at the increasingly human-like Ginseng, she couldn’t help but wonder if they were truly on the verge of becoming sentient!
Unable to determine the exact age of the two Ginseng plants, Mo Yan asked the Black Cloud Leopard, who also shook its head, indicating it did not know. Since it had gained Spiritual Wisdom, it roamed in search of Spiritual Energy-rich food and soon discovered these two Ginseng plants. To ensure a lasting supply, it chose not to consume them but planted their seeds nearby instead.
Unconcerned with the precise age, Mo Yan thanked the Black Cloud Leopard and transferred the two Ginseng plants into her Space, beside the Spirit Spring Pond. She planned to send them to Xiao Ruiyuan when she returned. Even if they weren’t a thousand years old, they couldn’t be far off. She figured they would suffice after some nurturing in the Space.
She didn’t overlook the Ginseng patch the size of an acre either. Mo Yan usually retained a portion of the herbs she harvested to continue growing and reproducing. She did the same this time, thinking that in a few years, someone might come along needing these Ginseng to save a life!
Besides, there were so many Ginseng plants that even if she greedily wanted to transfer them all into her Space, it wouldn’t have been an easy task. She chose about twenty to thirty Ginseng plants of various sizes to plant in her Space, and after watering the remaining Ginseng with Spirit Spring Water, she finally felt content.
Having accomplished her goal for entering the mountain, Mo Yan cut a palm-sized piece of Black Lingzhi to give to the eager Black Cloud Leopard and arranged for the Red Python to deliver Spirit Spring Water daily. Then, with her four beasts in tow, she cheerfully descended the mountain.
By now, the day was already fading, and Mo Yan did not refuse the kind offer of the Red Python, which coiled around her as they left Yuhua Mountain. When they arrived home, only half of the sun’s red face remained.
Suppressing the excitement in her heart, Mo Yan had dinner and hurried back to her courtyard. Under the cover of night, she located the two Hidden Guards nearby and asked them to send a message to Xiao Ruiyuan, stating that there was an important matter to discuss without revealing anything about the Ginseng.
Ever since her communication with Xiao Ruiyuan through Maomao almost got exposed, they agreed not to use such insecure methods of contact. Important matters were now conveyed through the Hidden Guards. Under strict training, even if captured, there was no worry of them divulging any information.
Today, Mo Yan had not allowed the Hidden Guards to follow her into the mountains. The fewer people who knew about the high-aged Ginseng, the better.
Xiao Ruiyuan did not let Mo Yan wait long. The following night, he slipped into the Mo Family’s estate unnoticed.
