Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Reap What You Sow (3)_1
If Yang Bao wanted to smooth things over, she would have to take matters into her own hands.
When Liyan came back inside after closing the door and heard this, she said indignantly, "Those people really are despicable, especially that Wang Dali. He probably still holds a grudge about the time we drove his family away, and it must be his bad idea this time too."
Mo Yan stroked his chin and narrowed his eyes, "Those dozen or so people have suffered such a loss, healing their wounds is bound to cost a fair amount of silver. If it really was Wang Dali’s bad idea, the Wang family won’t have any peace in the coming days."
"Haha, he gets what he deserves, having such a bad heart!" Liyan said with glee, hoping that those people would take their anger out on Wang Dali and teach him a good lesson, so that he wouldn’t be up to no good all day long.
Mo Yan smiled and said to the aunt and nephew, "Alright, it’s all settled now. You two go to sleep first, I’ll sit up a while longer and wait for Xiao Hua Dabai to come back."
If her earlier guess was correct, Xiao Hua Dabai had definitely encountered that big tiger. With the fighting power of Little Flower and Dabai, they wouldn’t be disadvantaged, but getting hurt was inevitable.
However, the aunt and nephew didn’t want to go to sleep and insisted on waiting up with Mo Yan.
Mo Yan didn’t force them, and once Liyan had lit the brazier in the small room, the three of them chatted while listening to the noises outside.
They waited for a long while until the rooster crowed thrice when a commotion finally came from the back yard’s gate. Mo Yan quickly got up, picked up the lantern, and ran out to the courtyard, only to see under the snowy night, a dozen dogs carrying one or two hares each ran in, with Xiao Hua Dabai and Mao Tuan trailing behind.
Little Flower and Dabai were at the door struggling together to drag a large wild animal into the yard, and even Mao Tuan came trotting over to Mo Yan with a big fluffy thing in its mouth, making soft noises as if to claim credit.
Mo Yan brought the lantern closer for a look and saw that the animal had a sharp mouth and a large tail, its fiery red fur sleek and shiny—it was a fully-grown Red Fox!
"Well done, well done, you even caught a fox! Mao Tuan, you’re amazing!" Mo Yan lavished it with praise, very gratified.
She had always been worried that Mao Tuan, having lived with humans since its infanthood, would lose its wild instincts and struggle to adapt back to the wild. Now that it could catch a quick and crafty fox, she wouldn’t have to worry about it starving once it was set free in the wild come springtime.
Pleased with the praise, Mao Tuan happily threw the fox on the ground and rubbed its fluffy head non-stop against Mo Yan’s thigh.
Seeing its adorable behavior, Lixiu’s nephew felt an irresistible urge to touch it, but knowing Mao Tuan’s temper, they didn’t dare to make a move and instead teased, "Such a big fellow, yet still acts like a little child, so clingy!"
Mao Tuan seemed to understand and gave the aunt and nephew a haughty look before continuing to nuzzle Mo Yan, purring contentedly.
Mo Yan, holding the lantern, carefully examined Mao Tuan and saw it was just a bit damp and not wounded, which relieved her.
Likewise, Little Flower and Dabai had a substantial catch: a wild boar weighing three to four hundred pounds. The boar’s weight was almost the sum of their own, so it must have taken all their strength to drag the big fellow back from the mountain.
After they dragged the entire boar into the yard, Little Flower and Dabai, with their mouths wide open, panted heavily and walked over slowly with hanging tails, clearly exhausted.
But they were not as fortunate; they had several wounds where the skin was torn and flesh was gaping, indicating without doubt that they had encountered that old tiger, just as Mo Yan had expected...
