Chapter 342: Chapter 342: A Narrow Escape Leads to an Unplanned Mother-Son Reunion (4)_1

Mo Yan looked at the three gaping mouths and was somewhat at a loss for words. It was one thing for Little Flower and Mao Tuan to be foodies, but now Dabai had become like this as well. How were they supposed to manage back in the mountains!

She picked up several slices of cooked mutton, lightly dipped them in some sauce, and placed two slices in each bowl. In reality, these thin slices were hardly enough to fill their teeth gaps.

After delighting in the first bite, the three animals refused to let Mo Yan rest. The slightest delay in service, and they would impatiently scratch at the floor and clamor for more. The hotpot-cooked mutton was simply too delicious for them to resist!

Mo Yan could only concentrate on feeding them, turning into a dedicated food server, while she ate very little herself.

The sauce contained a bit of chili pepper, which was fine in small quantities, but it became extremely spicy when eaten in larger amounts. Few animals could tolerate the heat of chili peppers, and now, after overindulging, the three animals had runny noses and were gaping open-mouthed to cool off the burn.

Concerned she might upset their stomachs, Mo Yan gave them some Spirit Spring Water to drink and decided not to dip the mutton in sauce anymore. The sauceless mutton was far less appetizing, making the animals very dissatisfied. They started to howl at her again, especially Mao Tuan, who stood up on its hind legs, resting its front paws on the edge of the table and sticking its mouth towards the sauce bowl and crying out, indicating it wanted to eat that.

Mo Yan, with twitching eyelids, had no choice but to continue dipping it for them.

Halfway through the meal, Maomao returned, scratching at the tightly shut door with its sharp claws, creating a racket.

Liyan hurried to open the door, and the harrier flew in, flapping its wings and circling above Mo Yan’s head twice. Under the menacing gaze of the three, it didn’t dare land on her head like the day before and instead perched on the back of the chair behind her.

Harriers have a sense of smell too, and eyeing the array of fresh meats on the table and the inviting aroma from the hotpot, its eyes gleamed green, forgetting all about the message it was supposed to deliver. Craning its neck, it attempted to snatch a bite, having eaten nothing but tough meat all day and nearly suffering from indigestion.

Yet before its beak could reach the dish, it was met with an unyielding slap from a fair and tender palm. Faced with a Maomao spreading its wings in anger, Mo Yan calmly said, "Your beak must have touched all kinds of dirty things, contaminating the meat. Who would eat it then!"

Maomao glared: It felt rejected, unhappy!

The three watched Maomao’s misfortune with schadenfreude, making unpleasant strange noises from their mouths that caused Mo Yan’s temple to throb, and she kicked each one of them.

It wasn’t until the four animals were full that Mo Yan finally had time to satisfy her own hunger. Fortunately, she had prepared an ample supply of ingredients. Even after the three with significant appetites had consumed most of it, there was still enough left for the family to fill their stomachs.

Zhenzhen rubbed his round belly, eyeing the still simmering pot base, unable to let go of his chopsticks, and said somewhat despondently, "It would be great to have two stomachs. That way, when coming across something delicious, one could eat to their heart’s content."

This silly comment made everyone laugh heartily. Mo Yan gave him a disapproving look, "Even if you had two stomachs, if you kept eating, they still wouldn’t be enough. You’d wish for three stomachs. The gluttonous person never knows satisfaction, and without knowing satisfaction, how can one understand the happiness it brings?"

Her words seemed to carry a significant meaning; aside from Yun Sheng, who was too young to understand, everyone else stared at their bowls, each experiencing some sort of realization.

Zhenzhen pondered thoughtfully for a while and then, with a blushing face, put down his chopsticks, got up from the table, and somewhat sheepishly said to Mo Yan, "Zhenzhen understands now. Thank you for your guidance, big sister!"

"As long as you understand," Mo Yan said, patting his head affectionately, "Whether you’re riding high or down on your luck, you should always preserve your true nature and not lose yourself."
