Chapter 332: Chapter 332: Financial Ruin and the Harrier’s Message (3)_1
No sooner had the words left his lips when Lizhong struck her back again with the staff, his voice cold, "A thief sneaks in to steal silver, and when caught, refuses to return it. Such a thief, even if killed, would not cause the Fair and Upright God to condemn me for a serious crime. It might as well be that I kill you now, and later tonight find a secluded place to bury you, making sure no one would ever know, and saving the trouble of any more fuss!"
After he spoke, he jabbed the staff into Zhang Ming’s stomach, causing him to cry out in agony and crumple to the ground, curling up.
The mother from the Hu family quickly embraced her son, shouting incoherently in her distress. Seeing Lizhong’s malevolent approach and recalling his previous words, her face turned ghostly pale.
"Dear, dear in-law, let’s talk this over calmly! As long as, as long as you’re willing to spare our lives, we promise, in the future, never, never to come here again."
"Humph! I do not believe a word you Zhang Family people say. Today I’ll end it all by killing you!" Lizhong declared, and with that, he aimed a ruthless blow at Zhang Ming’s head. Terrified, Zhang Ming, without a second thought, pushed his mother, who was holding him, forward.
"My son..." The mother from the Hu family stood there dumbfounded, staring at her only son whom she’d always held dear. She couldn’t believe he would do such a thing; she was his own mother!
Zhang Ming shrank into a corner, not daring to look at his mother as if by doing so, he could conceal the fact he had pushed her out to die.
The expected scene of brains splattering did not occur; the staff stopped just an inch above the mother’s head.
Lizhong cast a mocking glance at the cowardly Zhang Ming, his gaze finally resting on the mother with pity, "See, this is the ’fine’ son you’ve raised."
A few simple words, like a sharp knife, pierced the mother’s heart, bleeding her so much that she nearly passed out from the pain.
Her son, the one she’d cherished in her palms, pushed her to die when their lives were at stake. What sin had she committed to deserve this!
The mother and son were cut from the same cloth; growing tired of the sight, Lizhong turned and opened the door of the small room, only to see Mo Yan with a worried face ready to knock again.
"Yan girl, I’ve caused you trouble again." Lizhong was filled with guilt. The shop had already been unsafe, and with the Zhang Family causing trouble repeatedly, he was too ashamed to stay there any longer.
Mo Yan smiled and shook her head, "How could anyone blame you, Grandfather Li!" As she spoke, she glanced at the mother and son still in a daze inside, and said loudly, "Since these two like it here so much, I think we should just keep them here forever, to save us from further troubles."
The mother and son trembled with fear upon hearing this, scrambling to get up and rush out, yet daring not, still eyeing Mo Yan and the others warily.
Mo Yan curled her lip and stepped back, but Lizhong stood still.
Seeing a glimmer of hope, fearing Lizhong might block them, the two made a desperate dash for the door. The mother from the Hu family was slightly closer and reached the door first.
The door was too narrow for both to pass through at once; Zhang Ming actually pushed his mother aside to run out ahead. As he turned back to see what he had done, his mother stood at the doorway, staring at him, her eyes filled with a complex expression.
After the two silently exited the door, Zhang Ming belatedly ran up to help his mother, only to be pushed away by her.
A sardonic smile passed over Lizhong’s face; he hadn’t expected that a probing blow with the staff would have such an effect. If a rift had developed between the mother and son, they would probably not come back to make trouble anymore.
Mo Yan, unaware that Zhang Ming had pushed his mother to block the staff for him, saw this scene and simply thought it was his usual behavior. However, she looked down upon such a selfish and self-serving person like Zhang Ming from the bottom of her heart.
