Out of respect for Mr. Liu, Mo Qingze lowered his stance, but didn’t appear sycophantic, and was very moved to learn that Mr. Liu had taken special leave to come.

"Ziyu is being too polite. I’m a few years your elder; how about I humbly accept your calling me ’Brother Jianan’?"

Mr. Liu smiled faintly, fully displaying the grace of a scholar.

"Exactly, Uncle Mo. Hearing you call my dad ’Mr. Liu,’ I feel like you’re making my dad sound like an old man." Liu Tinglan, with her arm linked through Mrs. Liu’s, said with a giggle.

"When adults are talking, what business is it of a child’s to interrupt? No manners!" Mrs. Liu chided her daughter with a light tap.

Liu Tinglan stuck out her tongue playfully, making the adults struggle not to laugh.

"If that’s the case, then Ziyu shall follow the example set and call you ’Brother Jianan’ with respect," Mo Qingze said amiably.

"That’s how it should be, haha," Mr. Liu laughed heartily, stroking his beard and nodding in approval.

Mrs. Liu, visiting the countryside for the first time to attend a banquet, felt a little out of place seeing all the curious villagers. She hurriedly said to Mo Qingze, "Stop the chatter; it’s inconvenient to talk with so many people coming and going. Let’s go inside!"

"I was thoughtless. Brother Jianan, sister-in-law, niece, please!"

Mo Qingze gestured with his hand and quickly led the way.

The Liu Family’s coachman and the carriage were taken through a side door by Lizhong to be parked in the carriage shed. Then Lizhong brought some fodder for the horse and settled the coachman in a side room by the entrance.

Noting that the hall was too crowded and Mrs. Liu clearly disliked the noise, Mo Qingze led the Liu Family of Three to a large study to the side.

While Mo Qingze went to make tea, the Liu Family of Three began to look around the study.

The large study wasn’t in use at the moment, but everything was properly arranged. The big bookshelves were filled with various books, some for Zhenzhen’s enlightenment and others that Mo Qingze collected on a regular basis. While not as numerous as the books in the Liu family’s study, the arrangement was equally elegant.

Looking at the books whose edges had been worn from use on the shelf, Mr. Liu nodded inwardly, appreciating that Ziyu was an earnest learner and hadn’t neglected his studies.

Liu Tinglan, unable to sit still, saw this visit as an opportunity to play with her friend. Being with her parents could be a bit boring, so she said she wanted to find Mo Yan.

Mr. Liu, of course, wouldn’t object, but Mrs. Liu gave her a few words of caution, instructing her to stay with Mo Yan and not to run around.

Liu Tinglan chirped an agreement cheerily. Seeing Mo Qingze come in with tea, she called out, "Uncle Mo," and after finding out where Mo Yan was, she hurriedly dashed off.

Mo Yan was helping the chef in the kitchen, and upon seeing Liu Tinglan arrive, was quite happy. After seeking out his siblings to greet the Liu Family Couple, he took Liu Tinglan to his own small courtyard.

Mo Yan’s small courtyard was a bit away from the main hall, almost free from the noise. The flowerbed in the courtyard was yet to be planted, looking rather bare, but stepping through the door, the structure and arrangement of the room caught Liu Tinglan’s eye with wonder.

Bedroom, study, small living room—it had everything. The step bed, dressing table, and small couch were all quite lovely. The decor was simple and elegant, not at all common, and far more comfortable and pretty than her own room.

After looking around the room, Liu Tinglan sat down in the small living room. Mo Yan went to fetch tea, and soon returned with cakes and pear juice.

"Mmm, so delicious. How is this pear juice made?"

Liu Tinglan first took a small sip, finding it exceptionally sweet, and then gulped down the full glass of pear juice in one go.

"You just cut the pear into small chunks, then juice it in a juicer, filter out the residue, and add some honey. That’s all," Mo Yan explained.
