Chapter 164: Chapter 164 Trouble Comes Knocking (7)_1
Even so, in the Space, mounds of rice and grains had piled up, and all those chicken eggs, white as snow, heaped in one place—you could jump in and not resurface.
Mo Yan watched until her eyes hurt, knowing she needed to find a way to get these things out quickly, as it wasn’t a solution to just pile them up in the Space.
Next to the Spirit Spring Pond, the medicinal field had turned into a vast expanse of green. Seeing that many herbs had produced seeds, Mo Yan hurriedly began harvesting, planning to sow these seeds on the barren mountains later.
This delicate task was beyond Little Flower’s capability. It frolicked to the side of Spirit Spring Pond, staring at the Lingzhi that grew bigger and emitted a stronger fragrance by the day, drooling with longing.
Now, the Lingzhi was no longer just a simple blood-red color; the purple at the very center, originally the size of a fingernail, had swelled to the size of an egg.
Salivating over Lingzhi almost every day was practically a required course for Little Flower, causing Mo Yan to want to roll her eyes every time. To desire what one sees but cannot eat, yet stubbornly to keep watching, isn’t that masochism?
After collecting the seeds, Mo Yan headed to the orchards at the edge of the Space. Seeing every tree laden with unripe fruits, she swallowed her saliva in an unglamorous fashion. These apples, grapes, longans—she could eat them by tomorrow night.
Having been in this time and space for nearly a year, aside from the pear given by the kind old woman in Longshi Town that Mo Yan had eaten previously, she hadn’t even seen much other fruit, let alone tasted any. She was practically craving fruit to the point of madness.
Meanwhile, outside, it was the season when peaches and plums ripened. Later, she could take these fruits out for her family to enjoy.
The persimmon and chestnut trees, which were the first to be transferred here, were now laden with fruit. The ripe persimmons and chestnuts hung high on the branches. Persimmons in the Space lacked the astringency of those outside; they could be eaten right off the tree, crisp like an apple.
Mo Yan used a bamboo pole to knock down a few, washed off the dirt in the Spirit Spring Pond, and peeled two for Little Flower. She ate one herself.
After eating, she took up the bamboo pole again and began to knock the spiky balls from the chestnut trees. The chestnuts had just begun to fruit this season, and taking fresh ones out might raise questions. She planned to make chestnut cake in the Space before taking it out for Xin Er and the others to eat.
Little Flower came bounding over to join the fun but, coincidentally, a spiky ball hit its back, causing it to yelp and run over to Mo Yan, rubbing against her leg for comfort.
Mo Yan couldn’t resist its plea for attention and quickly sat down to part the fur where it had been hit. Finding some redness and two tiny spikes embedded in the flesh, she carefully plucked them out.
Little Flower adjusted its position, laying its large head on Mo Yan’s thigh, swishing its tail gently, and squinting its wolfish eyes in sheer contentment.
Mo Yan’s face showed her helplessness—this creature was becoming more and more spoiled.
After spending some time with Little Flower, Mo Yan stood up and continued to knock the spiky balls from the trees until she filled her basket.
The outer shell of the spiky balls was very hard, and extracting the chestnuts inside was no easy task—you could easily end up with bloodied hands.
Fortunately, Mo Yan was prepared, having made a pair of gloves from a deer skin. She held a spiky ball in her left hand and scissors in her right, and began to cut. Once she snipped it open, she forcefully pried it apart to extract the brown chestnuts inside.
While the gloves prevented injury from the spiky balls, they were thick and made the task rather cumbersome. The process of extracting a chestnut from a spiky ball took quite a bit of time.
By the time all the chestnuts were extracted from the basket of spiky balls, a lot of time had passed, and Mo Yan’s wrists felt foreign to her.
After resting a while, Mo Yan cooked the chestnuts with hot water to soak and peel off that tricky inner layer.
