Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Lesson(2)_1
Mo Yonglu and Mo Yongfu, the two brothers, were uneasy and wanted to stay, but Old Man Mo had driven them out.
Back in their own living quarters, Mo Yonglu pulled Mo Erni, who was engaged in needlework, outside, making sure no one could overhear their conversation. With an ugly expression, he asked, "Was it you who instigated your aunt to go and damage the Yan girl’s fruit seedlings again?"
Mo Erni’s face changed, and without speaking, she effectively admitted to it.
Slap!
Mo Yonglu trembled with anger, unable to hold back, he slapped Mo Erni across the face, and growled, "What good does it do you to frame your own aunt and destroy the Yan girl’s fruit seedlings, huh?"
Mo Erni’s face was turned to one side from the slap. Clutching her quickly swelling cheek, she gazed coldly at Mo Yonglu. "If I can’t live well, I won’t let anyone else live well either."
Upon hearing this, Mo Yonglu, irate, raised his hand again wanting to slap her several more times, to slap her into sense, but seeing her swollen cheek, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
"You’re just like Dani and San Ni; you’re even more favored by your grandparents than they are. They are able to live their lives properly, so why can’t you? Why can’t you be satisfied and stop causing trouble? Do you realize that if it weren’t for the Yan girl letting it go today, you would be the first to be sold to pay off debts!"
Mo Erni was startled, and then a hint of mockery flashed across her face. "Humph, our family was tricked by that lowlife, and yet you feel grateful towards her? There’s nothing more laughable than this."
"You have the nerve to talk! It’s because of you instigating your aunt to destroy the seedlings that the Yan girl had an excuse. Have you thought about it? Your aunt is part of our family; if she had done something to the Yan girl, the Yan girl would have blamed our entire family. Do you think you could escape from that?"
Mo Yonglu’s temples throbbed. How had he raised such an outrageous creature.
"It’s Mo Yongxi who’s as dumb as a pig, if she hadn’t run out in broad daylight and got caught red-handed, you think that lowlife would have been able to do anything to us?"
Mo Erni only cursed Mo Yongxi for being stupid, yet she failed to realize that she should never have incited her to do it in the first place.
"You still dare to talk? Who is the idiot!" Mo Qingze was so furious he felt dizzy and pointed at Mo Erni yelling, "You’re the real idiot! Don’t you know that if the village chief pursues the matter of setting the fire, our whole family will suffer! If your grandparents find out it was you who instigated it, you’ll be the first they push out to take the blame."
Now, Mo Erni’s expression finally changed, "The fire was set by Mo Yongxi, why should it be me who is pushed out to take the blame?"
Mo Yonglu closed his eyes, his voice weary, "You know very well how much your grandparents dote on your aunt. If they find out about this, do you think they’ll let you off easily?"
"Are you going to tell grandparents?" Mo Erni shrieked, clearly thinking of what Old Man Mo and Mo Hong’s family would do, "If you dare, I will never acknowledge you as my father for the rest of my life!"
On hearing this, it felt to Mo Yonglu as if a sharp knife had viciously stabbed him in the heart. He looked at his daughter and pleaded earnestly, "Even if Dad doesn’t tell, when the village chief starts inquiring, our family won’t fare any better. It would be better for you to go to the village chief with your aunt and admit your mistake; considering your young age, the village chief won’t be too harsh on you."
"I refuse!" Mo Erni shook her head emphatically, stepping back, "If it gets out, how am I supposed to face people after that?" How to secure a good marriage.
Mo Erni understood the importance of a young woman’s reputation far better than most, having learned from Mo Yongxi’s example.
Mo Yongxi clenched his fists and hardened his heart, "Knowing the shame it will bring if it gets out, why did you make your aunt do it in the first place? Why wait until now to be scared? Regardless, the best way to handle this is for you to take initiative and admit your mistake."
"I won’t go! I won’t!" Mo Erni yelled at Mo Yonglu, "I would rather die than go!" With that, she turned and ran away.
Watching Mo Erni’s retreating back, Mo Yonglu squatted down on the ground, his hands covering his face in agony.
In a nearby corner, someone quietly slipped away. Unbeknownst to the father and daughter, their argument had been overheard.
