Chapter 135: Chapter 135 Lizhong Goes Missing (2)_1

Unsure of what this object was, Mo Yan didn’t dare to try it out recklessly. After pondering for a moment, she entered her Space and carefully planted it next to the Spirit Spring Pond.

Seeing the valuable item it had coveted for many years gone, the wolf felt somewhat depressed but had no choice. Once Mo Yan emerged, she prepared to head down the mountain with Little Flower, and the wolf followed all the way until they reached the spot where they had first met.

Although Mo Yan didn’t know what the painstakingly obtained item was, she was only able to find it thanks to the wolf. She grabbed more than ten chickens from her Space, tied them up with rope, and hung them on the wolf’s back as a gesture of thanks. If she could be certain of what the item was, she would have shared half of it with the wolf and not kept it all to herself.

The wolf didn’t refuse. It stood there and watched until it could no longer hear Mo Yan and her company, then it turned around and disappeared into the forest.

As they were nearing the foot of the mountain, Mo Yan left a wild rabbit and a wild chicken behind but took the rest out, tied them up with rope, and placed them on Little Flower’s back to serve as a feast for the workers at the construction site.

As for the Plum Deer, Mo Yan planned to keep it to nourish her family’s health, as every part of it was valuable.

By the time they returned to the construction site, it was past noon. Master Lv and the others, who were just about to start work, were so surprised by the wild game on Little Flower’s back that they couldn’t close their mouths in astonishment.

Master Lv glanced at Little Flower and asked in confusion, "Yan girl, is this creature really a dog? It doesn’t look like one to me!"

Mo Yan chuckled dryly, "It is a dog, just one with a voracious appetite and greater strength, capable of running faster than other dogs."

After hearing this, Master Lv didn’t say anything more. The others kept praising Little Flower as a good dog and were eager to pet it. Little Flower snorted and arrogantly turned its wolf’s head away, presenting its backside to them.

Having run all morning, both Mo Yan and Little Flower were famished. Fortunately, their food had been kept warm on the stove, so there was no need to spend time making something else.

The meal consisted of three dishes and a soup: potato pork stew, braised cabbage, braised tofu, and egg soup. The hired cook was skilled, and the food turned out quite tasty; Mo Yan enjoyed the meal, but Little Flower was picky and disdainful, only eating a few bites before refusing any more.

After eating, Mo Yan made another trip to the barren mountain. The mountain was bustling with activity: some people weeding, others chopping down trees. In just half a day’s work, they had cleared two or three acres of land.

She instructed the weed-pulling women to try to dig out as much of the root system as possible, to prevent regrowth in the areas they had not yet cleared.

Without pesticides, completely eradicating the wild weeds was impossible, but they at least had to wait until the fruit seedlings grew larger so that the weeds wouldn’t compete too much for nutrients. The first two years after the seedlings were planted were usually the most crucial.

Mo Yan couldn’t come here every day, so she had to leave the care of the barren mountain to Aunt Cai and Mrs. Xiong. As long as the workers didn’t slack off too much, it would be fine. Seeing that there was nothing else she needed to attend to, she informed Mo Qingze and left.

Perhaps feeling slighted from the day’s events and dissatisfied with the food, Little Flower stealthily followed Mo Yan, hoping to return to Jing City. Mo Yan soon noticed and found the dog was determined to follow her despite her attempts at persuasion; it played cute and tugged at her clothes. With no other recourse, Mo Yan went back to inform her father to be extra vigilant that night before she took Little Flower on the ox cart with her.

By the time they arrived home, it was evening. They got off the cart at the alley entrance and saw Liyan running towards them with an anxious expression.

"Sister Yan, my grandfather still hasn’t come back. Do you think something has happened to him?"

Mo Yan was startled and said, "What exactly happened? Don’t panic, tell me slowly!"

Liyan’s voice turned hoarse, almost on the verge of tears, "Grandfather always left early and returned late, but today he came back at noon in a hurry. His eyes were red, and he seemed in poor spirits. When I asked him, he just said it was nothing and went back to his room. Not long after, he hurried off again, and he hasn’t returned since."

Mo Yan frowned, already realizing what might have happened, but the fact that Lizhong hadn’t returned yet suggested there might be a problem.

"Don’t worry. Grandfather Li might have news about your aunt. Go home and wait; I’ll go look for him right now."

Already feeling at her wit’s end, Liyan quickly responded, "Can I come with you, Sister Yan?"

Mo Yan shook her head, "Jing City is so big, how can we find him just the two of us? Be good and wait at home; I’ll find someone to help right now."

Unable to argue, Liyan knew she would be of no help and reluctantly went home.

Mo Yan sent Little Flower back and then hurriedly boarded a carriage at the street corner, urging the coachman to dash straight to Huixian Residence.

It was mealtime and Huixian Residence’s main hall was filled with diners. As Mo Yan walked in, she saw the Punishing Shopkeeper at the counter.

The Punishing Shopkeeper, noticing Mo Yan’s urgent demeanor, quickly ushered her into a private room.

"Punishing Shopkeeper, could I borrow a few people from you?" Mo Yan was anxious and got straight to the point.
