Chapter 1303: Chapter 407: Turn Against

Xiao Ruiyuan was confident in Mo Yan’s plan, clearly seeing the opportunity to capture all the Uto People in one fell swoop, yet he couldn’t help worrying about her being in the enemy camp making strategies, fearing that the Uto People would detect her and bring about her demise.

The Uto People were not to be trifled with, especially since they might have brought gunpowder with great destructive power. At this point, cooperating fully with Mo Yan’s plan was the best choice.

Xiao Ruiyuan, based on Mo Yan’s plan, made a series of deployments overnight. To prevent any oversight, he detailed these deployments in writing and gave them to the Golden Beast to quietly deliver to Mo Yan.

The Golden Beast had already been tipped off by Xuetuan, handing the letter to a small Cloud Bird. The Cloud Bird was the most common type of bird on Yuhua Mountain, and if not for the cleverness in its small eyes, unlike that of ordinary birds, no one would give it a second glance.

Xuetuan looked down on the Cloud Bird, having not formed a contract with it. Guided by the Six Beasts, the Cloud Bird slowly found its way near the cave where Mo Yan was located.

Today, aside from the two Uto Men who were on guard duty for Mo Yan yesterday, a few more Uto People had been added to keep watch near the cave. Worried about being discovered, the Six Beasts did not proceed further and urged the Cloud Bird to deliver the letter.

With its small size and being an ordinary species, the Cloud Bird easily flew over the heads of the Uto People without attracting a second glance.

Inside the cave, Mo Yan appeared to be idly drawing with a tree branch on the ground, but what she was drawing was not random. It was a map centered on the cave, based on the description provided by Xuetuan.

The two burly men guarding Mo Yan glanced over but, finding no interest, shifted their gaze away and continued to chat and boast.

"Xuetuan, are you sure we haven’t missed anything?" Having completed the final stroke, Mo Yan silently inquired of Xuetuan.

"All is accounted for. The path behind the cave is the most crucial, and you’ve drawn it thoroughly," Xuetuan replied.

Hearing this, Mo Yan tossed aside the branch and committed the map firmly to memory, contemplating how to make use of her familiarity with Yuhua Mountain to capture all the Uto People without a fight.

The Uto People had chosen this cave as their temporary dwelling because of its strategic location: easy to defend but hard to attack, with a hidden escape route to the outside world at the rear. This meant that even if Xiao Ruiyuan’s men found this location from the front, the Uto People could still escape with Mo Yan through this mountain path unscathed.

As Mo Yan was step by step refining her plan, the Cloud Bird quietly landed at her feet, gently pecking at her ankle.

Mo Yan looked down and easily recognized it as her own Cloud Bird, also noticing the message canister tied to its leg. Seizing a moment when the burly guards were distracted, she swiftly retrieved the message and tossed it into the Space, then laid two grapes in a somewhat hidden spot behind her.

The Cloud Bird, seeing the grapes, had its beady eyes brighten and hopped over energetically, pecking the grapes clean in no time.

Mo Yan patted the Cloud Bird’s head and then pointed to an inconspicuous foothold on the wall. Understanding her hint, the Cloud Bird flew up there and closed its eyes to rest.

Come nightfall, while the Uto People were soundly asleep, Mo Yan entered the Space and drew the daytime map onto a white cloth with grass juice, writing down the most comprehensive plan for the Cloud Bird to take back.

As the message canister was too small for the cloth, the Cloud Bird directly clutched it in its beak and flew out of the cave.

Soon, the cloth reached Xiao Ruiyuan through the Golden Beast. After reading it, Xiao Ruiyuan immediately dispatched his men to infiltrate Yuhua Mountain quietly, blocking the paths the Uto People were most likely to flee through.

In the following days, the two exchanged several more letters. As Mo Yan had anticipated, the Uto People used her as leverage against Xiao Ruiyuan, demanding that he personally ensure the safe return of the Uto Kingdom’s spies trapped in Chu Jing to the Uto Kingdom. Otherwise, they threatened the life of his fiancée.

To avoid arousing the Uto People’s suspicions, Xiao Ruiyuan initially pretended to refuse, his words conveying a lack of regard for his fiancée Mo Yan. He claimed it was only due to his unassailable male pride that he would retrieve her and threatened to report the matter and request Emperor Huian to deploy a large force to ensure no return journey for them if Mo Yan was not returned unharmed soon.

The Uto People naturally did not agree. However, they also knew Xiao Ruiyuan was not to be trifled with and, without knowing how much Mo Yan truly meant to him, they refrained from harming her to force Xiao Ruiyuan’s compliance.
