Chapter 1258: Chapter 395: Protecting, One Family_2
"You..." Madam Hu was so angry she couldn’t speak. Wherever she went, people showed her respect because she was a member of the Hu Family. She never expected to be challenged at every turn by a teenage girl, which was simply outrageous.
Perched on a volcano, Madam Hu had never considered that when she visited other families in the past, they were often of a lesser or similar official rank to Sir Hu, showing respect to her on account of the main branch of the Hu family!
Now that she was at the Mo Family residence, the status of Lord Mo Yan alone was enough to crush Sir Hu several times over, let alone tolerate their family’s arrogance?
"Good, very good!" Sir Hu was equally livid, his face red and his neck thick with anger. He had originally taken advantage of Mo Yan’s inexperience, persistently being rude about the issue of Xin Er hitting someone, and had not anticipated Mo Yan being so assertive, not willing to back down even a bit. "I’ve experienced the County Lord’s might. I will not let this matter rest!" he declared.
As he spoke, he turned around angrily, taking his wife and daughter with him to leave. It was then that a gentle but sharp voice came through: "May I ask how this gentleman intends not to let this rest?"
Everyone instinctively looked up, just to see at the entrance of the courtyard, a handsome couple dressed in bright red wedding attire slowly walking in. It was Mo Qingze and Cui Qingrou, who were supposed to be getting married at the ancestral hall. Following them was a group of people who had gone to fetch the bride from the Cui family, and a group of youngsters from the Cui family who escorted the bride.
As it turned out, Mo Qingze had led Cui Qingrou down from the bridal sedan, and they had just crossed the fire basin, waiting for the auspicious time to perform the marriage rites when they noticed that only Zhenzhen and Yun Zhao among their children were at home. Mo Qingze then asked Lizhong about the whereabouts of the three Mo Yan sisters.
Lizhong was busy in the front courtyard, and the events that occurred in the back had already been relayed to him by Liyan. He hadn’t wanted to divulge the details at first but, pushed by Mo Qingze’s persistent questioning, quickly told the truth.
Worried that his daughter might be at a disadvantage, Mo Qingze had wanted to go to the back courtyard to see for himself but was mindful of Cui Qingrou’s presence. Unexpectedly, Cui Qingrou took the initiative to speak up, asking Mo Qingze to take her to Xin Er’s courtyard, where they just happened to overhear Sir Hu’s threatening words.
"Father, Aunt Cui, why did you come over?" Mo Yan hurriedly greeted them, seeing Cui Qingrou still veiled, she knew that the wedding rites had not yet taken place. She became anxious and said to her father, "Father, the auspicious time waits for no one. I can handle the situation here; please take Aunt Cui away."
Before Mo Qingze could respond, Cui Qingrou’s soft voice came from under her veil again: "Yan’er, there are still fifteen minutes until the auspicious time. It’s not too late to resolve this matter first."
Mo Yan breathed a sigh of relief, touched by Cui Qingrou’s understanding, and quickly relayed her negotiation results with the Hu family.
Seeing that his daughter hadn’t been at a disadvantage, Mo Qingze heaved a sigh of relief, but he was thoroughly shocked when he saw Miss Hu’s swollen face, making it difficult to discern her features: he never knew that his second daughter could be so violent.
Even though he was relieved that she hadn’t been bullied and felt pained that she had been hurt in such a way, he wanted to give the aggressive Hu family members a severe lesson. But upon seeing Miss Hu’s injuries, most of his anger dissipated instantly.
Even though Mo Qingze believed that his own daughter had suffered more, he knew it was better to keep this thought to himself rather than voicing it out loud.
Sir Hu was unaware of Mo Qingze’s thoughts. Seeing him intervene in the matter, his eyes lit up: "Mr. Mo, today is a joyous occasion for you, and I shouldn’t be pursuing the matter of your precious daughter striking someone. However, my daughter’s injuries are severe, and the County Lord’s handling of the situation was unfair. I have no choice but to make a justified appeal, and I hope Mr. Mo understands."
These fine words seemingly washed away all errors on his side, turning the tables and piling all the blame on Mo Yan.
However, he had forgotten that Mo Qingze was also a father deeply loving his daughter. Regardless of whether her actions had a reason, even if she was completely unjustified, he would never denounce his daughter in public.
Sir Hu’s purpose was doomed to fail!
Mo Qingze and Sir Hu did not have close dealings, although they served as officials in the same government. One was in the Hanlin Academy, and the other in the Ministry of Works. The most they did when meeting was nod and exchange greetings. Now that Sir Hu was distorting the truth, not mentioning his own daughter’s faults, Mo Qingze’s impression of him deteriorated even further.
